The music from Dua Lipa’s Radical Optimism sounds very modern. Despite this, one of the album’s creators explained how Motown songs inspired it. He picked out one Smokey Robinson tune in particular as a model for the songs on Dua Lipa’s newest record. Notably, Robinson said he had a lot to say about his legacy as a musicians.
A producer compared Dua Lipa’s ‘Radical Optimism’ to a Smokey Robinson song
Lipa is a high-tech, modern pop star. Her music is filled with synthesizers and the latest genre trends. However, even the most forward-thinking pop stars can look to the past for inspiration. The classic hits of Motown inspired the construction of songs from Lipa’s Radical Optimism if not its sonic palette.
Danny L Harle is one of the producers of Radical Optimism. During a 2024 interview with Grammy.com, Harle discussed one of the concepts behind the album.

Spotify’s upcoming changes to its subscription tiers will allow the streaming service to use a new royalty model that drastically impacts songwriter payouts. In a new Billboard report, music publishing reporter Kristin Robinson estimates songwriters will be paid about $150 million less during the first 12 months of its implementation in comparison to the previous model.
As Bloomberg reported last month, Spotify will raise the prices by $1 per month for individual plans and $2 per month for shared plans. These price increases will help subsidize the cost of bundling 15 hours of audiobooks per month as part of paid plans.
Instead of raising royalty rates, however, Spotify will pay a so-called “bundle” rate to songwriters for streams from premium subscribers to further offset the cost of book licensing. Per Billboard, this allows the streamer to value music at about “52% of the total bundle, or around $5.70 per subscriber” for the current $10.99 plan including audiobooks.

Chicago Fire aired a new episode that featured Kelly Severide, but Chief Boden was absent again.
Much of the latest episode featured Severide (Taylor Kinney) trying to stop a trio of domestic terrorists.
Truck 81 was stolen from Firehouse 51 in the middle of the night, and Severide was along for the ride. It turned out that the trio of gunmen who stole it were planning to turn it into a bomb.
When Stella Kidd (Miranda Rae Mayo) woke up later that evening, she discovered that Severide and Truck 81 were missing, leading to an intense investigation.
Chief Boden and Severide were gone, leaving Kidd to take the lead at the firehouse as Chicago P.D. was called in to help.
Severide stopped the terrorists, and the team came to his rescue as the episode ended, but Boden was still Mia.

Some disappointing Chicago Fire spoilers have just been revealed.
Eamonn Walker, who has played Chief Boden on the NBC drama for 12 years, is out as a series regular.

Exclusive: Chicago Fire original cast member Eamonn Walker is stepping away from his series regular duties on the hit NBC series after 12 seasons portraying boss Wallace Boden, Deadline has learned.
While there have been multiple cast changes of late on OneChicago, we understand that the decision to step back was his own. The Boden character is still very much alive and well, sources said, and Walker is expected to return to the show in a recurring capacity in the future.

The character has been on a short leave of absence due to personal family matters leaving Severide (Taylor Kinney) in charge but will return for the finale.

Madonna has many obvious predecessors but Smokey Robinson is not one of them. Despite that, Robinson influenced one of the key ingredients of Madonna’s “Like a Virgin.” The Queen of Pop revealed what she thought of “Like a Virgin” and some of her other early songs in retrospect.
Madonna’s ‘Like a Virgin’ was inspired by Smokey Robinson and a bad relationship
Billy Steinberg and Tom Kelly co-wrote “Like a Virgin.” When they wrote it, there was no way they could have known how important the song would become. During an interview with SongwriterUniverse, Steinberg explained how the magic happened.
“It was in 1983 that Tom and I wrote ‘Like a Virgin,'” he explained. “It started with the lyric first. I was driving around in my pickup truck and I got the idea for the song. The idea came out of a personal experience. I was in a devastating relationship,...

On September 15, 1965, Irwin Allen whisked television viewers out of their living rooms on a journey to the outer reaches of space, where the Robinson family finds themselves marooned on a strange, not-entirely-hospitable planet thanks to the sabotage of their chief medical officer. For a nation dreaming of a seemingly impossible moon landing, "Lost in Space" was both wish fulfillment and cautionary tale; a part of us was enthralled by the notion of exploring the cosmos, but we were also terrified by the thought of aimlessly hurtling through a universe with no known end and no direction home.
Allen's series didn't dwell much on the more frightening aspects of the Robinsons' predicament. Unlike Gene Roddenberry's "Star Trek" (which would debut a year later), Allen employed a fairly rigid formula that found the Robinsons and the hunky Major Don West (Mark Goddard) having to outwit the generally inept scheming of Dr.

The response to ID’s docuseries Quiet on Set: The Dark Side of Kids TV has been overwhelming to say the least, the project’s co-directors and executive producers Mary Robertson and Emma Schwartz said at an Emmys FYC screening and panel in Los Angeles Tuesday evening. It’s also brought into focus another industry where there’s a “clear lack of protection” when it comes to children, Schwartz said: social media.
“One thing that we’ve had conversations about as a result of this is that, if you look at where children’s entertainment, so to speak, is today, it’s not just in studios or in networks, it’s on social media,” said the filmmaker. “That is a universe where there’s almost no oversight as to what’s happening inside people’s homes, on these screens, and what’s happening to protect those kids as well, and...

Written by Mark Waid and Alex Ross, DC Comics Kingdom Come was published in 1996 under the Elseworlds imprint. Alex Ross developed the concept from the original idea and painted the comic book in gouache, which has been appreciated by ardent comic book fans. DC Animated Universe veteran Bruce Timm also appreciates Alex Ross’ concept for the comic book.
Set in an alternate future of the DC Universe, Kingdom Come’s story takes the readers into a time when the Justice League team and the new-generation superheroes are fighting each other to determine the future of the planet. The limited series was reportedly written as an indictment against the growing trend of violent anti-hero archetypes that sprung out in the early 1990s. Bruce Timm explained in detail why the comic book couldn’t be adapted for an animated movie.

The Challenge: All Stars is back for its fourth season on Paramount+ this week, and some members of the cast are starting to speak out about what fans can expect from this season. Ace Amerson previously returned for All Stars‘ first season and was a finalist in his last main Challenge season, The Inferno 3, so he was already familiar with what this particular spinoff entails — namely, that it features some of the best players of all time (some of whom only claim to be past their prime). Still, this season left him stunned in more ways than one. “A lot of the older players like that, I had a good relationship [going in]. Like Rachel [Robinson], I had the biggest crush on Rachel back in 2005. I almost made her not gay for one night. Almost. It was so funny, I reminded her about that last time I saw her. Yeah, I had my moments,...

“Deliver Me From Nowhere,” the upcoming film about the making of Bruce Springsteen’s landmark 1982 “Nebraska” album, has landed at 20th Century Studios.
“The Bear” star Jeremy Allen White is in talks to star as the legendary rocker. Scott Cooper will write and direct the film, which is based on Warren Zane’s 2023 book “Deliver Me from Nowhere: The Making of Bruce Springsteen’s Nebraska.”
“Nebraska,” the follow-up to Springsteen’s hugely successful album “The River,” was widely expected to be a rock album with the E Street Band. Instead, it was a stark solo album made on a 4-track recorder. The book and the film tell the story of Springsteen’s artistic journey in the creation of the record, which is regarded as a watershed in his musical odyssey.
The Gotham Group’s Ellen Goldsmith-Vein (“The Maze Runner” trilogy) and Eric Robinson, Cooper, Zanes and Scott Stuber are producers.

Exclusive: In a move that points to a change in direction he will take at the helm of Disney live action and 20th Century Studios, former Searchlight co-head David Greenbaum has made his first big statement buy, and it’s set to the music of Bruce Springsteen’s seminal album Nebraska.
20th Century has closed a deal to finance and release Deliver Me from Nowhere, the narrative film that Scott Cooper is writing to direct with Emmy-winning The Bear star Jeremy Allen White playing The Boss in a pivotal moment in his life. Grappling with personal demons and trying to wrap his arms around becoming a global superstar, Springsteen wrote and recorded Nebraska, the 1982 album that rivals Joni Mitchell’s Blue as one of the most emotionally raw, dark and honest albums in recent music history.
When Deadline revealed that the project was coming together, A24 was expected to be the distributor.

The Chicago Fire cast has added another new face for Season 12.
It’s already been a season of change at Firehouse 51, and that continues with the next new episode.
Exits are happening frequently this season, beginning with Firefighter Blake Gallo (Alberto Rosende) leaving Chicago in the season premiere.
Paramedic Sylvie Brett (Kara Killmer) married Matt Casey (Jesse Spencer) and then moved to Portland. Her exit was a tough one for the fans.
New Paramedic Jared Lennox (Wesam Keesh) dropped in for two episodes but wasn’t a good fit at the firehouse. Chief Boden sent him packing – a decision that could lead to repercussions later.
A new episode of Chicago Fire introduced another new paramedic. But she might stick around for a while, especially since Violet Mikami (Hanako Greensmith) took a liking to her.
Here is the latest news on Jake Gibson (Rome Flynn).

"I would say 90% of our text chain with Dan Stevens is just 'I Think You Should Leave' references and memes," estimates Tyler Gillett, co-director (with Matt Bettinelli-Olpin) of the upcoming ballerina vampire movie "Abigail." And it didn't just stay in the text chain. Stevens himself says that on set, "When we weren't shooting gory scenes, we were just generally quoting 'I Think You Should Leave.'"
The obsession with the bizarre, mind-warping Netflix comedy series was so deeply ingrained that even the look for Stevens' character, Frank, was formed around a certain sketch from "I Think You Should Leave With Tim Robinson." Frank is tasked with overseeing a heist crew who have been hired to kidnap the daughter of a very wealthy man and hold her to ransom. He's not there to make friends, and he's not a very nice person. He is, you might say, a piece of s**t.

Spoiler Alert: This story contains minor spoilers of Tim Robinson’s “I Think You Should Leave” live show, including general descriptions of unaired sketches.
“I Think You Should Leave” went live Tuesday, April 2, when creators Tim Robinson and Zach Kanin brought their beloved Netflix sketch comedy series to the stage at New York’s Beacon Theatre.
Nearly 3,000 fans showed up for the mysterious, sold-out show, many of them revealing their allegiance to the comedy cult with Dan Flashes button-downs and Corncob TV tees — if you know, you know — and yelling out lines from “I Think You Should Leave” that have been immortalized in gifs and memes.
It was a scene inside the Upper West Side venue, as the line to buy new merchandise snaked through the foyer of the Beacon and created a traffic jam that delayed the start of the program. Among the merchandise on sale were a white...

The best (and worst) part of writing for the Marvel Cinematic Universe is that your movie/show is almost never just a self-contained story. It's part of a larger world, one where pre-existing characters can veer in and out of the narrative at seemingly any moment. But that's part of what made "Loki," the Disney+ series that began in June 2021, so fun. The main character was already established by several previous movies, so viewers knew who this guy was from day one, ad the first episode had a whole lot less work to do than a typical TV pilot.
So far, "Loki" hasn't involved any major characters from the main MCU, but part of the fun for fans is knowing that it could do so at any moment. It's hard to imagine a version of the series that doesn't at least have Loki somehow reconnect with his brother Thor, for instance,...

The creative force behind the American sketch comedy series I Think You Should Leave, Tim Robinson and Zach Kanin, are getting the band back together after landing a pilot at HBO for their new project, The Chair Company. Robinson and Kanin wrote the half-hour comedy pilot, with production courtesy of Adam McKay and Todd Schulman for Hyperobject Industries.
Written and executive-produced by Robinson and Kanin, The Chair Company focuses on a man (Robinson) investigating a far-reaching conspiracy after an embarrassing workplace incident. Tim Robinson's unmistakable brand of cringe-comedy humor is setting its sights on its next victim(s), but rest assured -- we're all trying to find the guy who did this. That "guy" would probably be all of us who gleefully devoured Netflix's sketch series "I Think You Should Leave" and vaulted the comedian and former "Saturday Night Live" actor to the cream of the crop, turning the worst fictional societal monster this side of Larry David in "Curb Your Enthusiasm" into a ratings juggernaut. We have absolutely no regrets whatsoever.
In one of the wisest comedy decisions made in recent memory, HBO has now decided that it wants in on the Tim Robinson business. You'll undoubtedly want to put his latest production on your radar, titled "The Chair Company." The Chicago Fire cast has revealed a new actress joining the show for Season 12.
Presumably, this new person could wind up as the partner to Violet Mikami (Hanako Greensmith).
Losing Sylvie Brett (Kara Killmer) has been difficult for Firehouse 51. Her replacement was shoehorned into the firehouse by the new paramedic chief.
It turned out that Chief Robinson was trying to send a message to the firehouse and Chief Boden and that she wanted to replace the “old guard” in Chicago.
Jared Lennox (Wesam Keesh) surfaced as Violet’s new partner and frequently questioned her medical choices in the field.
The situation between Lennox and Violet escalated to the point where he reported her as being “aggressive” and “disrespectful” on the job.
When Boden pushed Lennox out of the firehouse, Robinson showed up to give him a piece of her mind. And now it means a new paramedic for Firehouse 51 again.

When Boden pushed Lennox out of the firehouse, Robinson showed up to give him a piece of her mind. And now it means a new paramedic for Firehouse 51 again.

Well, I'm just going to say it.
This season? Not the best.
Chicago Fire Season 12 Episode 8 was not an improvement over the previous, only making the longer-term story more aggravating and uncertain.
There is good news, of course, and it does make you want to pop the champagne.
Lennox is gone. Ding dong, the dingdong is gone.
The guy was, sorry to say, an idiot. He got swept up with a powerful character in the Cfd who offered him who knows what without paying any regard to his own future.
And if the guy wasn't already 100% annoying, he spent the episode contradicting himself.
I'm hoping that we can both be professional about this. Despite what you might think, Robinson is an amazing woman and an inspiring leader. She believes in following protocol, and so do I. Might not always win you a popularity contest, but doing the right thing is...

Talk about Boss. A biopic about the life of Bruce Springsteen is in its early stages, IndieWire has learned, and it seems like some big names are already racing in the street to be involved.
Here’s what we know for sure: The project is being put together by lead producers Eric Robinson and Ellen Goldsmith-Vein of The Gotham Group, and they’ve got Springsteen and his manager producer Jon Landau involved in its development.
They’ve also brought Scott Stuber aboard as a producer, making the Bruce film his first project as a producer since he announced his exit as Netflix’s longtime film chief.
Beyond that, details are still being worked out and deals still need to be put in place. But another source says A24’s involvement is in talks stage. Scott Cooper, the “Crazy Heart” filmmaker, is also in talks to write the script and would direct.
