As is house tradition, Thom Browne’s 2024 Met Gala crew posed for a pre-carpet group photo, shared exclusively with The Hollywood Reporter.
The Thom Browne class of Met Gala 2024 group includes Cynthia Erivo, Rebecca Ferguson, Gigi Hadid, model Alton Mason, NBA pro Ben Simmons, Jaden Smith, Steven Yeun and — making a rare red carpet appearance together — Queen Latifah and her partner, choreographer/producer Eboni Nichols.
They gathered for their class photo at The Pierre New York hotel, wearing pieces that tackled the night’s “The Garden of Time” dress code and also speak to Browne’s laser-sharp vision and effortless cool. On display among the group of nine are nature details, plaid and a whole lot of black and white.
Among the best dressed stars of the night, Erivo stunned in a black sequined Thom Browne set that features a tailored jacket and skirt with a whimsical overlay of 2,000 pink...

Austin Butler never planned to play Elvis Presley in a movie. The "Elvis" star hadn't even been told he resembled the late Rock 'n' Roll singer until a month before he learned about director Baz Luhrmann's ambitious film - a dramatic never-before-told Presley story (which premiered on June 24) starring an ensemble cast comprised of Tom Hanks, Olivia Dejonge, Kelvin Harrison Jr. Alton Mason, and Yola. However, as fate would have it, a series of chance events eventually helped Butler land the role of a lifetime - one that landed him his first-ever Golden Globe win.
"The bizarre thing was I never had anybody say, 'You look like Elvis, you should play Elvis,' or any of that."
"It was fate," Butler previously told Popsugar. "The bizarre thing was I never had anybody say, 'You look like Elvis, you should play Elvis,' or any of that. Then [there were] two moments...

Bringing a biopic to the big screen involves sifting through a lifetime of minutiae to encapsulate the essence of a person within a manageable runtime. Every choice can be examined under a microscope as though the production were a documentary. “It was about trying to get a feeling and trying to tell the story, or our interpretation of the story, as truthfully and respectfully as possible,” says Martin of how the Elvis Presley biopic was shaped. Distilling decades of a famous life into a feature required a lot of storytelling technique that sometimes worked better than facts.
While many of Elvis’ famous jumpsuits were painstakingly re-created, they don’t appear in chronological order. “Baz wanted...

Treś chic. All eyes were on Cara Delevingne as she attended a party for her Cara Loves Karl Paris collection during Paris Fashion Week. Celebrating her collaboration with the late Karl Lagerfeld's iconic fashion house, the supermodel showed up to the Sept. 27 cutting a fierce all-black look which included a sharp suit jacket, which was belted at the waist and teamed with over-the-knee boots. Other famous faces in attendance included models Amber Valletta and Alton Mason and RuPaul's Drag Race star Aquaria. That same night, Cara, 30, posted a series of pics to Instagram where she is...

Good news for all “Suspicious Minds,” Baz Luhrmann’s “Elvis” biopic officially has a HBO Max streaming date.
The Austin Butler-led film will be streaming on HBO Max next Friday, Sept. 2, 70 days after the film’s opening in theaters on June 24. While the biopic might not follow fact over fiction to a T, “Elvis” offers a good deal of escapism as audiences relive the days when The King frequently clubs in Mississippi and on Beale Street alongside B.B. King, Sister Rosetta Tharpe and Arthur “Big Boy” Crudup.
The question of when “Elvis” would hit HBO Max became a major question in recent weeks, as Warner Bros. Discovery shifted its strategy when it comes to streaming dates for new releases. While this year’s “The Batman” and “Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore” were streaming on HBO Max exactly 45 days after they hit theaters, starting with “Elvis” Warner Bros. films are...

Priscilla Presley has addressed some of the alleged history of ex-husband Elvis Presley that was arguably left out of summer blockbuster “Elvis.”
The Baz Luhrmann-directed film presents Elvis (Austin Butler) as the embodiment of mid-20th century America, showing him as being deeply moved by the Civil Rights Movement and Martin Luther King Jr.’s death. That goes against a popular narrative that he was racist, something immortalized in Public Enemy’s song “Fight the Power.” In a new interview with “Piers Morgan Uncensored,” Priscilla discussed Elvis’ relationships with musicians of color.
“Per the movie, [for] a long time it was stated that Elvis was a racist,” Priscilla explained. “He was not a racist. He had never been a racist. He had friends, Black friends, friends from all over. He loved their music, he loved their style. He loved being around Black musicians.”

Balenciaga won the couture sweepstakes again this season with an electrifying show stacked with celebrity models including Kim Kardashian, Nicole Kidman, Dua Lipa and Selling Sunset star Christine Quinn.
Wednesday’s spectacle should solidify Demna’s reputation as a master of high-low cultural curation — and one of the most exciting thinkers and practitioners in fashion today. The show had a knife-to-the-throat intensity heightened by a throbbing symphonic soundtrack, and face-obscuring RoboCop-esque face shields, developed in collaboration with Mercedes-Benz racing engineers.
Yet underneath, there was also a lump-in-the-throat emotional tug. Was it the love poem recited in French as the show got underway? The stirring music, amplified by handbag-shaped boomboxes toted by some models? Or simply the visceral beauty of Demna’s voluptuous tailoring and killer dressmaking?

“You don’t do the business, the business will do you,” B.B. King (Kelvin Harrison Jr.) tells the rising Elvis Presley (Austin Butler) in Baz Luhrmann’s Elvis. He says this after a late-night jam session which includes Little Richard (Alton Mason), and while the blues guitarist is admiring the shiny new ride owned by the white rock and roll sensation. King advises Elvis to start his own label.
In reality, B.B. King did just that in 1956. At the time, he was coming off his best year, according to King of the Blues: The Rise and Reign of B.B. King, by Daniel de Visé. King had just packed the Howard Theater in Washington D.C. and Harlem’s Apollo, as well as 340 other venues. Born Riley B. King on a Mississippi plantation in 1925, B.B. “Blues Boy” King had risen to the height of his musical popularity by the mid-1950s.

Out of the dozens of real-life-inspired musician stories we've seen on the big screen, Baz Luhrmann's "Elvis" is unlike any other. The director's biggest film to date - with a cast that features Austin Butler, Olivia Dejonge, Kelvin Harrison Jr., Alton Mason, and Yola - is also his most ambitious, using the perspective of Elvis Presley's manager Colonel Tom Parker (portrayed by Tom Hanks) to tell the story of the rock 'n' roll icon we have yet to hear.
"It's not a biopic. I didn't set out to do [one]."
Between the film's whimsical intro and its fast-moving plot that crams Elvis's entire career into 159 minutes, "Elvis" is not the biopic fans are expecting. In fact, Luhrmann has never even used that word to describe the movie. "It's not a biopic. I didn't set out to do [one]," he tells Popsugar. "Anything I do, I want it to be helpful...

On June 22, Kacey Musgraves released a heartbreaking cover of "Can't Help Falling in Love" from Baz Luhrmann's forthcoming "Elvis" biopic. The song was released with a music video featuring clips from the film itself, showing what appears to be an emotional breakup scene between Austin Butler's Elvis and Olivia DeJonge's Priscilla Presley. Needless to say, it makes for tearjerking viewing.
"Can't Help Falling in Love" is the latest release from the "Elvis" soundtrack. On June 16, Måneskin shared a rendition of "If I Can Dream" and Eminem shared a version of "The King and I" featuring CeeLo Green. Baz Luhrmann’s “Elvis” is far from being just about Elvis, when it comes to the music in the film and on a forthcoming soundtrack album. Besides the vintage Presley cuts included, the movie is providing the opportunity for the most high-profile multi-artist soundtrack in years. The lineup of participating artists was announced in May — without any song titles attached — and a handful of singles has been released, by Eminem, Måneskin and Doja Cat. But not until the film began screening more widely, in advance of its June 17 wide release, did it become fully apparent who was singing what and just how some of the more unusual choices would fit into the biopic.

In a rhinestone-studded, cinematic extravaganza, director Baz Luhrmann gives Elvis Presley his signature dazzle treatment in an energetic epic tale about Elvis but told through the eyes of his scheming manager Colonel Tom Parker. Parker is played by a winking, sinister Tom Hanks in a riveting performance. By rights, the film really should be called “Elvis and the Colonel” or maybe the reverse, as Tom Hanks’ Parker is a dominate presence, serving as our master of ceremonies and narrating events from his point-of-view. Elvis is played winningly by Austin Butler, who not only looks like Elvis but sings some of his early hits while performing with hip-swiveling verve.

Austin Butler is receiving glowing reviews about his performance in "Elvis," but the 30-year-old actor wasn't always confident in his portrayal of the rock 'n' roll icon. In 2019, Butler snagged the role of a lifetime in director Baz Luhrmann's film with some assistance from Denzel Washington. However, ahead of filming for "Elvis," he sought out advice from fellow actor/"Bohemian Rhapsody" star Rami Malek to help calm his nerves.
"I was on the verge of an anxiety attack [and], I just didn't feel ready at that time - then I spoke to Rami, and he really helped me."

Baz Luhrmann’s “Elvis” jams into theaters June 24. The film’s hype just keeps growing, especially after receiving a 12-minute standing ovation after its premiere at the 2022 Cannes Film Festival.
With a runtime of 2 hours and 39 minutes, the biopic has received mixed reviews that range from “trainwreck” to “a sharp edit away from being a classic.” According to Time Magazine’s Stephanie Zacharek, “Luhrmann sees equal value in fact and myth.” The Los Angeles Times’ Justin Chang wrote, “It’s all a bit much, which means it’s just right.”
Audiences will have a chance to find out for themselves later this month, but for now here’s everything we know about “Elvis.”

If you’re 25, Elvis Presley died 20 years before you were born. “Oh, yeah, they don’t care [about Elvis],” said “Elvis” director Baz Luhrmann, who sat down with me in a sunny suite at the Ja Marriott shortly before his film premiered in Cannes. “In a way, I like that. Because they’re very honest about it. Even when I was a fan as a kid, I was more Bowie and Elvis became wallpaper. And I think they know him through ‘Lilo and Stitch,’ or he’s in a video game. Like he’s the guy in the white jumpsuit.”
Never say that the Australian director isn’t down for a challenge. After the premiere of “Elvis” at Cannes this week, writer-director Luhrmann compared Elvis Presley to rapper Eminem and their respective musical influences from growing up in Black communities. Presley was raised by his mother in Memphis, Tennessee, and Eminem, whose real name is Marshall Mathers III, is from Detroit, Michigan.
“The most important thing in this film is to show that a young kid, just like Eminem, grew up in a Black community, their personalities are formed by what they absorb,” Luhrmann said during the Cannes Film Festival press conference. “So the music that came out of Elvis was music that he absorbed and from his friendships with emerging Black musicians who weren’t famous like B.B. King.”

The full artist lineup for the “Elvis” soundtrack has been revealed — although still not the actual tracks they’re performing — and among those takin’ care of business on the album are Eminem, Tame Impala, Stevie Nicks, Jack White and Jazmine Sullivan.
A handful of the artists named were already known, including Kacey Musgraves, who said on the Met Gala red carpet that she’ll be doing “Can’t Help Falling in Love” for the film; Maneskin, whose version of “If I Can Dream” was used in a recent teaser trailer; and Doja Cat, whose “Vegas” was already released as the album’s first single.
But that still left room for plenty of surprises in Monday’s announcement. Along with the aforementioned, the lineup includes CeeLo Green, who is listed as a collaborator with Eminem on their mystery track; the combination of Swae Lee and Diplo; and Chris Isaak and Pnau,...

Warner Bros’ Elvis movie from Baz Luhrmann is going a bit later, with the studio Monday pushing it from June 3, 2022 to June 24, 2022. The pic will be a pure theatrical release, not hybrid day-and-date with HBO Max, as Warner Bros pivots from its pandemic 2021 distribution plan.
Elvis’ departure from the first weekend of June leaves the frame up for grabs for another major studio’s tentpole. On its new date, Elvis squares off with Sony’s Reese Witherspoon production Where the Crawdads Sing.
The news comes following Paramount’s move of Hasbro’s Transformers: Rise of the Beasts from June 24, 2022 to June 9, 2023.
Luhrmann directs, co-wrote and produces Elvis. Screenplay was co-written with Sam Bromell, Craig Pearce and Jeremy Doner off a story by Luhrmann and Doner.

Exclusive: Following a lengthy search, director Baz Luhrmann has tapped up-and-comer Alton Mason to play legendary musician Little Richard in Warner Bros’ Elvis.
Sources tell Deadline that even as the film got back into production following suspension due to Covid-19, Luhrmann wanted to make sure he took his time in finding the right American actor to play the part of the iconic rock ‘n’ roll showman, who died last year.
Mason joins an ensemble that includes Austin Butler as Elvis Presley, Tom Hanks as Colonel Tom Parker and Olivia DeJonge as Priscilla Presley.
