This article contains spoilers for "Gen V" episode 4 — "The Whole Truth."
The latest "Gen V" episode, "The Whole Truth," has finally introduced a character often mentioned on the parent show "The Boys" — Tek-Knight/Robert Vernon (Derek Wilson), one of this world's many super "heroes." In this world, Supes are mostly just media stars and Tek-Knight is no different — in fact, he represents one of the most insidious forms of entertainment out there: true crime.
He is the host of "The Whole Truth with Tek-Knight" (streaming on Vought+) and for his latest episode, he's come to Godolkin University. He's there to teach some criminology classes and film an episode about Golden Boy's (Patrick Schwarzenegger) murder-suicide in the series premiere. Of course, he's not there out of any sense of justice, but as a simple tool for his bosses at Vought — his assignment is to pick a patsy and further cover up the truth.

Mainstream pop culture-oriented content is going through an age of expansion, i.e., more importance is given to interconnected storytelling, world-building, crossovers, and meta-narratives. Studios executives are pushing the creators to come up with more ways to keep audiences hooked, not just with a singular entry but with the entire content library a certain intellectual property has to offer. Therefore, it is understandable that Paramount Studios wanted to introduce their version of a crossover with the beginning of the prequel Transformers live-action movie series as well.
In the recently released Transformers: Rise of the Beasts, after saving the world with his new Transformers friends in a globetrotting adventure, human protagonist Noah Diaz attends a job interview. To his surprise, the interviewer seems to know everything about his past and also about his recent deeds, and their conversation concludes with Noah being offered a job at the covert government branch known as the G.I. Joe initiative.

This article contains spoilers for Transformers: Rise of the Beasts.
When we first meet Noah Diaz (Anthony Ramos), he’s a tech genius struggling to find a job and a purpose. By the end of Transformers: Rise of the Beasts, he’s found a purpose by playing an important role in helping the Autobots and Maximals stop the Terrorcons from bringing the planet-destroying Unicron to Earth. But he still doesn’t have a job. That is until he’s approached by a man who knows what Noah has done for the planet and wants to recruit him. The name on the man’s business card? G.I. Joe.
By this point, shared universe teases such as these have become commonplace in blockbuster films, often pointing to larger franchises that nobody really wants (R.I.P. Dark Universe). But the G.I. Joe reveal in the latest Transformers might have a...

Spoiler Alert: This contains major spoilers about the ending of “Transformers: Rise of the Beasts,” now playing in theaters.
Is this the beginning of the Hasbro Cinematic Universe?
After rumors of a crossover between the “Transformers” and “G.I. Joe” franchises circulated online in recent months, it seems like the ultimate ’80s action-toy mash-up is officially happening. The ending of “Transformers: Rise of the Beasts” has a direct callout to the Joes, and director Steven Caple Jr. and producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura spoke to Variety at the film’s premiere about what to expect next from the series.
“Rise of the Beasts” is the seventh installment in the talking robots franchise, and di Bonaventura called it “the beginning of a new generation of ‘Transformers’ movies.” It follows 2018’s prequel “Bumblebee,” which took place in 1987, and shifts things to Brooklyn in 1994. Anthony Ramos and Dominique Fishback take over as the human leads Noah Diaz and Elena Wallace,...

This article contains Snake Eyes: G.I. Joe Origins spoilers.
It’s been a long time since we’ve been to the movies and an even longer time since we’ve seen a ninja flick on the big screen. Snake Eyes: G.I. Joe Origins is a dazzling return to the underrated ninja genre – a breakout premiere in the shadow of the pandemic.
Ninja films rarely earn a theatrical showing anymore. They are pigeon-holed as B-grade movie fodder, and justifiably so. Back in the 1980, ninja films proliferated when second and third-run movie theaters ruled. Campy, low budget ninja pictures were popular fare there back then, right alongside slasher films and teen sex comedies. But with the advent of home entertainment, those cheap flea-ridden theater seats atop soda-sticky floors are long gone. Nowadays, most new ninja films go straight to streaming so to see one on the big screen is quite a treat for fans of the genre.

The time has come for Paramount and Hasbro to try and relaunch the G.I. Joe franchise on the big screen. While G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra and G.I. Joe: Retaliation both did decent box office numbers, neither was significant a hit enough to launch a full-fledged franchise. Instead of going bigger, the studio is downscaling a little by making a prequel pic examining the origins of fan-favorite Snake Eyes. Now, it can’t be denied that for hardcore G.I. Joe fans, this has been a…...

The biggest thing that Snake Eyes: G.I. Joe Origins gets right is the casting of Henry Golding as the titular, iconic masked ninja. Not only is it nice to see the character played by an Asian actor (Snake Eyes has up to this point only been portrayed as a white man), but the Malaysian-English Crazy Rich Asians star does a fine job at kicking the living shit out of countless baddies, as well as giving the up-til-now silent character a voice that fans can get behind. And director Robert Schwentke treats the material seriously while still remembering to have fun along the way.
The movie opens with Snake Eyes as a boy, long before he becomes the wordless warrior fans know and love. He and his dad are on vacation at their family cabin when a group of militarized mercenaries led by a scraggly super-goon captures his father and forces...

Although the argument could be made that such a thing as a “G.I. Joe Cinematic Universe” has no need to exist, the endeavor to create one could have resulted in something far worse than the martial arts laden Snake Eyes. Instead, the latest “G.I. Joe Origins” film, plays like an early-seventies James Bond knock-off that desperately wants to be something more tangible and important than it ultimately is.
When, as a child, he bears witness to the murder of his father, Snake Eyes (Henry Golding) swears vengeance on the man responsible, Yakuza arms dealer Kenta (Takehiro Hira). To do so, Snake aligns himself with Tommy (Andrew Koji) and his clan—the Arashikage—to be trained in the ways of the ninja. However, when the secrets of his past are discovered and his plans are revealed, Snake Eyes must prove his allegiance and assert his honor to retain the...

In the beginning, God created the heaven and the earth. Over the next several days, He would create the evening and the day, the light and the dark, the waters and the firmament, the movies and the Military Industrial Complex and various corporate marketing divisions.
On the fourth day, He created Hasbro, a collective maker of toys, and watched as it dreamed up many ideas for figures of action. One was a line of large, burly soldiers of various types, some with beards and some without, all with scars upon their cheeks.

Plot: The first cinematic origin story for G.I. Joe explores the beginning of the iconic character, Snake Eyes. Review: It all started fine with the occasionally entertaining G.I. “Snake Eyes: G.I. Joe Origins” is probably about as good a movie as you’re going to get that has the words “G.I. Joe” in the title. Maybe that’s because it seems to have very little to do with anyone’s conventional idea of G.I. Joe. It’s not a square-jawed, mildly jingoistic heavy-weapons combat orgy, like “G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra” (2009) or “G.I. Joe: Retaliation” (2013), the previous two installments in the Hasbro-inspired action franchise. It is, rather, a darkly atmospheric, sleekly scissor-limbed ninja combat orgy — a tale of vengeance and nobility and scheming set in Tokyo, where the title character (Henry Golding), a moody drifter who saw his father killed by shadowy forces, joins the Arashikage clan, a 600-year-old ninja dynasty, but only because he’s on an undercover mission of sabotage.

Japan: Where undead Hollywood franchises go to get a new lease on life. It worked for “The Fast and the Furious” with “Tokyo Drift.” It worked for “X-Men” with “The Wolverine.” It even worked for “3 Ninjas” with “3 Ninjas: Kick Back,” at least so far as that movie paved the way for Hulk Hogan to star in “3 Ninjas: High Noon at Mega Mountain” a few years later. And now — to a surprising degree even despite that precedent — it works for “G.I. Joe” with “Snake Eyes,” a back-to-basics origin story which that was right on the brink of being forgotten.

When Henry David Thoreau said “Simplify, simplify, simplify,” he probably wasn’t talking about the long-running Hasbro military action figure franchise “G.I. Joe,” but here we are anyway. Director Robert Schwentke (“The Captain”) has taken that advice with a brand-new live-action feature film that strips away most of the toy line’s sprawling cast and focuses instead of on two of its most popular characters: The speechless assassin Snake Eyes, and his misunderstood blood brother–nemesis Storm Shadow.
Since the early days of the cartoon series (and fleshed out particularly well in Larry Hama’s run in the Marvel “G.I. Joe” comic books), Snake Eyes and Storm Shadow have been trapped in a seemingly never-ending cycle of jealousy, betrayal, murder, mistaken identity, and revenge. Their backstory is the closest that “G.I. Joe” has probably ever come to Shakespeare — which is to say not especially close, but pretty darned good for...

The social media embargo for the “GI-Joe” movie spinoff “Snake Eyes” has lifted, and it looks like the movie has, uh, rolled itself as the early reactions are overwhelmingly negative.
Fans who saw recent early screenings generally had praise for co-star Andrew Koji as Storm Shadow, but that’s generally it. The rest, with a few exceptions, was pretty thoroughly dismissed.
Feedback for the movie, which focuses on the fan-favorite masked commando’s origins (played by Henry Golding), ranged from constructive criticism to outright reading for filth. Some fans complained about its pacing, others about the story and script, and quite a few about the aesthetic choices of director Robert Schwentke.
Some examples:
“I was pretty letdown. Generic story and bad script plague this reboot…” said YouTuber Nichols Whitcomb.
“Ultimately is all hiss and no strike. There are some truly breathtaking action sequences but they get muddled down by the...

You can’t possibly talk about the famous G.I. Joe ninja commando Snake Eyes without talking about his archenemy Storm Shadow. Aside from Cobra Commander, the white ninja warrior is probably the coolest character in Cobra Command. In fact, I would say that those three characters are the coolest in the whole G.I. Joe franchise. It might not be much of a competition, because in my opinion, most of the Joes are generic meathead characters. It did fit for the era where they began, but having Snake Eyes in the mix really shakes things up. When it comes to Cobra Command,

It kind of goes without saying that Snake Eyes has been one of the most popular G.I. But this time around we get to see how he became the person he’s been for so long, and while it’s easy to think that things are going to change a bit, as Henry Golding’s casting would indicate, it’s still enough to think that we’ll get to see him don the garb

The debut trailer for Snake Eyes: G.I. Joe Origins wants you to know that the upcoming film is on a new level, as its accompanying rap by A$AP Ferg declares. While the final verdict on that bold claim will be decided once the pandemic-delayed film finally drops in July, the franchise aspirations are quite apparent. Henry Golding’s black-clad ninja commando is complemented by signature characters such as Scarlett and Baroness, and a teased focus on the Hasbro toy property’s other popular ninja character, Storm Shadow.
G.I. It was last represented on the big screen by 2009’s G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra (directed by Stephen Sommers) and 2013’s G.

The G.I. Joe franchise has long been the disappointing cousin of Transformers. While the latter has gone on to multiple sequels, spinoffs and a huge total gross at the box office, G.I. Joe has consistently underperformed. Both 2009’s G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra and its sequel, 2013’s G.I. Joe: Retaliation made money, but not quite as much as Paramount hoped. As such, the franchise has been on ice for a while. But it’s being defrosted this October, in Snake Eyes.
The upcoming movie is an origin story for G.I. Joe’s resident ninja Snake Eyes. He’s one of the most popular members of the team, appearing in almost all incarnations and famed for his martial arts skills. Despite this, his origins remain hazy and everything about his past is considered classified. Even his real face is a mystery after he was disfigured on his first mission for the team.

At this point in time, it goes without saying that Rob Liefeld’s reputation precedes him. Having worked in the comic book medium for decades, not only did the guy help launch Image Comics back in the 1990’s, but he also rocketed X-Force to the top of the sales charts a few years earlier – not to mention co-creating a character named Deadpool. Perhaps you’ve heard of him.
Speaking of which, Rob unveiled his variant cover for the debut issue of Marvel Comics’ upcoming relaunch of Deadpool’s ongoing title over on Twitter. And as it turns out, it could very well be his last for the House of Ideas. That said, you should probably get your hands on a copy as soon as you can.
Here’s what Liefeld had to say about the matter in the relevant social media post:

Ready or Not star Samara Weaving is the latest to join the cast of Paramount Pictures’ upcoming G.I. Joe film Snake Eyes. She will be taking on the role of Scarlett and I absolutely love that she has been cast in this role! She was awesome in Ready or Not, and I can totally see her playing a badass version of Scarlett! With Hasbro buying the brand from Saban last year, Power Rangers fans have been eagerly awaiting news on further movies featuring the Mighty Morphin’ heroes. Hasbro’s plans may be bigger than we ever expected, though, as the latest rumor points to the company creating a cinematic universe featuring the Rangers along with Transformers.
This report comes from scoopster Mikey Sutton, who’s previously spilled the beans on a possible Wolverine vs. Hulk film from Marvel. The intel goes that Hasbro’s rebooted Rangers will have ties to future Transformers movies, which will continue on from the soft relaunch of 2018’s Bumblebee. Apparently, the plan is to eventually make a Power Rangers/Transformers pic, which would help lay the seeds for an entire cinematic universe.
Other classic Hasbro properties like Rom and the Micronauts will also likely be involved in this shared universe and it’s possible that G.I.
