Ben Affleck has been one of the most prolific actors in Hollywood, and he has also made a mark as an acclaimed filmmaker. Having his breakthrough with the Oscar-winning drama Good Will Hunting, which he co-wrote with Matt Damon, Affleck rose to worldwide stardom as he headlined blockbusters and became a slough-after actor.
Affleck’s tryst with the superhero genre has been bittersweet. While his role as Daredevil has been regarded as cheesy, with the actor himself considering it a mistake, his role as Batman in the Dceu has been divisive. Now, the actor is rumored to be in the running for Doctor Doom in the MCU, which fans seem to be completely against.

When discussing MCU characters, our focus often gravitates towards the Avengers and prominent villains. However, the MCU owes much of its success to secondary characters whose roles significantly influence the storyline.
That’s why fans recently turned to Ranker to determine the top 10 most underrated characters in the MCU. While some may never regain the spotlight due to past events, others still hold the potential for greater recognition.
10. Talos
Talos made his debut in ‘Captain Marvel’ as the compassionate leader of the displaced Skrulls, sparking hopes among fans for his significant role in the MCU’s future. While he did appear in the recent ‘Secret Invasion,’ his storyline took a tragic turn. We discovered that his life was even more sorrowful than anticipated, with his daughter nearly joining the enemy ranks. Ultimately, Talos sacrificed himself to protect the human president from Gravik’s attack, preserving his ultimate aspiration.

When commenting on the MCU characters, we almost always reference the big hitters like the Avengers or the most notable villains. But the truth of the matter is the MCU wouldn’t be what it is today if not for the contribution of secondary characters whose actions impacted the storylines more than realized.
This is why fans took to Ranker to decide on the 10 most underrated characters in the MCU. Some, due to unfortunate circumstances will never get their 5 minutes of fame again, and for some, there is still hope. Let’s see who’s on the list.

The announcement of Vegapunk, the arrival of the Giants from Elbaf, the power revelation of the Five Elders, and many other mysteries have been disclosed in the Egghead Island arc in One Piece. The arc has proved to be the most important arc as it also marks the beginning of the finale saga.
One Piece – Egghead Arc
Although Egghead has been answering a lot of questions, it also has introduced some new ones that have confused One Piece fans. The biggest question right now in One Piece is the Iron Giant, who has finally woken up and is moving towards the battle between Luffy and the Five Elders.
As it rushes towards the fight, it is seen apologizing to Joyboy (Luffy). This has led One Piece fans to form multiple theories about the relationship between Joyboy and the Iron Giant. Among those theories, there is one that suggests that the...

Capcom has finally announced that Dragon’s Dogma II will be coming to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC via Steam on March 22, 2024. Pre-orders for the follow-up to the 2012 original are up now, complete with pre-order bonuses. Capcom made the announcement during the scheduled showcase event, which included new gameplay reveals with director Hideaki Itsuno and producer Yoshiaki Hirabayashi.
On PlayStation Blog, Itsuno stated that Dragon’s Dogma is a game that he dreamed of playing as a boy “who loved Trpg-based games and action games, and I have a special attachment to it. Dragon’s Dogma II incorporates ideas that were not technically feasible at the time we created the first game. I believe this game will let you experience the fantasy world you’ve always dreamed of, a fantasy world action simulator game, and ultimately be the ultimate Dragon’s Dogma.”

Three Marvels? In this economy? "The Marvels" (read /Film's review here) is technically a sequel to 2019's "Captain Marvel," a film which rewound the clock to 1995 -- a mythical time when Blockbuster stores adorned every other street corner and nobody had ever heard of that Iron Man fellow -- for a fairly standalone story revealing how Carol Danvers (Brie Larson) got her superpowers. But at the same time, it's also the 33rd (!) movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and is arriving on the heels of no less than eight live-action Disney+ MCU shows, one animated series, and even a pair of holiday-themed streaming specials.
That's a whole lot of continuity to account for, so much so that even the creatives behind the MCU have found it increasingly difficult to keep track of everything lately while at the same time making sure every new installment is a satisfying viewing experience unto itself.

“This can’t be right,” says a disembodied voice, over an image of an Air Force pilot, signaling to her wingman in an adjoining jet. The voice commands someone to go back further, this time to images of a little girl racing a go-cart. “Who is this person?” asks the voice, speaking for most of the viewers as well.
The confusion of the speaker, later revealed to be the Skrull Talos, comes from his expectation to see memories of Hala, the assumed homeworld of the Kree warrior Vers. He doesn’t realize that Vers was born on Earth as Carol Danvers. After Talos unlocks her memories, Carol recovers her identity and her full power, eventually becoming the superhero Captain Marvel.

Having read the first issue of Giant Robot Hellboy, I can confidently say that Mike Mignola and Duncan Fegredo have, once again, created something truly special and I'm so excited for Daily Dead readers to check it out for themselves when it's released by Dark Horse Comics on October 25th. However, you don't have to wait until next week, as we have preview pages and details from Duncan Fegredo on the creative process in our Q&a:
You and Mike Mignola have worked together on some of Hellboy's best stories. How did your collaboration on Giant Robot Hellboy come about?
Duncan Fegredo: Giant Robot Hellboy was one of those ideas Mike has had prowling around his mind since he drew that fateful sketch during the pandemic. You remember all those amazing sketches I’m sure, they were collected as The Quarantine Sketchbook. I loved that Giant Robot Hellboy sketch from the moment it appeared,...

‘Secret Invasion,’ currently the latest MCU series on Disney+, debuted in June and aired on the streamer for six episodes. Although the series sounded promising from the start with its grounded political thriller premise and more serious and mature approach, the series turned out to be a disappointment, particularly after the last episode. Don’t get us wrong, the series wasn’t all bad, but as we always like to say, it could’ve been better.
The series killed off two characters who had a close personal relationship with Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury. Cobie Smulders’ Maria Hill, who was a part of the franchise since 2012, and Talos, a Skrull general whom Ben Mendelsohn played since his MCU debut in 2019’s ‘Captain Marvel.’ While these deaths could’ve been justified if used for Nick Fury’s motivation and further character development, the sad news is that, ultimately, these fan-favorite characters died for nothing.

When it comes to impact on the overarching narrative of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Nick Fury can be marked as the single most important character, second only to Tony Stark, aka Iron Man. Given the fact that the veteran spymaster has acted as the string that has held together some of the most notable heroes against threats against humanity, a project based on Nick Fury was bound to be made, and in walked the Disney+ series Secret Invasion.
Despite weaving an interesting narrative about Nick Fury’s relationship with the shape-shifting alien Skrulls and using that to address the changing political scenario of the MCU in Secret Invasion, the series couldn’t measure up to the scale of the source material and at the end fell victim to the clichéd, lackluster CGI battle trope like most other MCU series. The Skrull crisis remains mostly unresolved and even more confusing than before.

Many feel the Marvel Disney+ series "Secret Invasion" went out with a whimper, although it started with a big twist. Don't worry, he and the others were rescued in the end!
For the uninitiated, the Skrulls first appeared in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (as far as we know) in the 1990s during the events of "Captain Marvel." The alien race was looking for a new home, and back then, Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) offered to help them in exchange for their help with some spy work on Earth. Some of them volunteered, including the now-deceased Talos (Ben Mendelsohn). In "Secret Invasion," we get to see Skrull versions of Fury, several world leaders,...

Spoiler Alert: This story contains spoilers for Marvel’s “Secret Invasion,” now streaming on Disney+.
Marvel’s “Secret Invasion,” a six-episode event series on Disney+, ended Wednesday with a 37-minute finale that wrapped up the MCU’s first standalone story focused on Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury.
Ali Selim, an executive producer, directed all six episodes of the show, which adapted a popular Marvel Comics run that plays on the audience’s paranoia. “Secret Invasion” asks what it if the characters you thought you knew and loved were instead alien invaders — a.k.a. Skrulls, an alien race introduced in 2019’s “Captain Marvel” — posing as them? Then, as the show’s tagline wonders, “Who do you trust?”
Ahead of “Secret Invasion’s” premiere episode, Selim told Variety that if he, like the Skrulls, could shape-shift into any Marvel character, he’d like to become Nick Fury. As the architect behind the Avengers initiative,...

Well, that just happened. The season finale of Marvel Studios' "Secret Invasion" was a scant 38 minutes including the "previously on..." recap and credits, but the blur of events included a fight between two Super Skrulls imbued with the superpowers of Captain Marvel, the Avengers, the Guardians of the Galaxy, Thanos, and Thanos' goons from "Avengers: Infinity War" and "Avengers: Endgame." That might sound like an epic battle, but it was pretty short-lived and mostly just left us with a lot of questions about how DNA works in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

That's ... it?
In retrospect, I'm not sure there was really any other way a show as underhyped and underwhelming as "Secret Invasion" would come to a conclusion, despite common sense and comic books telling us that this story really should've amounted to much, much more than what we ultimately got. From the beginning, Marvel's latest Disney+ offering came with the implicit promise of paranoia thriller trappings, political intrigue, and all the potential in the world to take the classic sci-fi concept of enemies hiding among us in plain sight and put a superhero spin on it. But the forgettable series we received instead only served as a reminder that, much like Nick Fury himself, the Marvel Cinematic Universe has clearly lost a step since blasting right past its most logical stopping point, "Avengers: Endgame," and forging ahead in perpetuity with nary a break.

As I sit here staring into the middle distance, wondering where to start unpacking the damp squib that was the Secret Invasion finale, it’s hard to ask myself anything but “what the hell happened here?” Secret Invasion should have theoretically been an exciting Marvel event spun from a notoriously flawed comic, much like Civil War, so it feels like there was a lot of scope for invention and inspiration; sketching outside the lines of the intriguing concept that Skrulls have replaced some of the key Avengers and have been planning to take over as the dominant species on Earth.
Instead, what we got was one angry Skrull who wanted to eradicate humanity by making us nuke each other, while he himself became a Super Skrull by getting juiced up on the Avengers’ DNA. The key people replaced? Rhodey (Don Cheadle), who has some political sway but no actual physical power,...

Los Angeles, July 22 (Ians) Actor Kingsley Ben-Adir, who plays the role of the Skrull villain Gravik in ‘Secret Invasion’, has detailed his motivations and personality, saying that ultimately Gravik is someone who’s had too much of Nick Fury and his empty promises and now he trusts no one but himself.
Deception and manipulation are key points in spy-thrillers, and with no longer sure of who to trust anymore when amid massive chaos and looming destruction, Marvel Studios’, new series ‘Secret Invasion’ packs in a darker and more grounded approach to its storytelling.

Marvel Studios’ Secret Invasion is coming to Hulu. Ahead of the series’ season finale on Disney+, the first three episodes, “Resurrection,” “Promises” and “Betrayed” will begin streaming tomorrow July 21 through Thursday, August 17 on Hulu.
The first five episodes of the series, starring Samuel L. Jackson, are currently streaming on Disney +, with the finale Episode 6 premiering next Wednesday, July 26.
While a number of titles have moved between Hulu and Disney+ before they were on air, this marks one of the first times that a Disney+ original series will also stream on Hulu. Andor and American Born Chinese have also previously streamed on Hulu.
High Fidelity moved from Disney+ to Hulu, as did Love, Victor, while The Mysterious Benedict Society moved from Hulu to Disney+, but all of these moves came after greenlight and before premiere.

The mettle of a leader is tested in the toughest of times, and the penultimate episode of Disney+’s Secret Invasion highlights that through the roles of the now-deceased Talos, a determined Fury, and a restless, desperate Gravik. After the Skrull crisis reached its worst state in the previous episode, with the terrorist Skrull leader Gravik leading his operatives into an attack on the convoy of United States President Ritson while posing as Russians, the situation went haywire at both the Skrull and human fronts. Colonel James Rhodes, who was so far acting as P.O.T.U.S.’ Chief of Staff, is revealed to be a Skrull operative named Raava, whose deliberate inaction resulted in the ambush.
The arrival of Fury and Talos to aid the human forces spoils Gravik’s plan, and Talos sacrifices himself while saving the President’s life. In the previous episode, viewers also saw...

If there’s one thing that the MCU has taught us about Nick Fury, it’s that he’s pretty damned good on his own, but when he gets a team together who work towards his cause, whether it be Skrulls, Shield agents, or Avengers, he’s a lot better. Secret Invasion has compounded this theme throughout, revealing that some of Nick’s greatest achievements would never have happened without his worker bees. And in its fifth episode, “Harvest”, Nick’s new team begins forming in order to help him deal with the Gravik situation, even as he maintains he’s the only one who can really resolve the conflict and clean up the mess he made.
To that end, the “good guys” are split off into pairs ahead of the show’s climax . G’iah (Emilia Clarke) and Varra (Charlayne Woodard) meet to deal with...

‘Secret Invasion’ Episode 4 Recap & Review: Did Either Talos Or President Ritson Survive At The End?
After a rather timid third episode that mainly acted as a filler, exposing the traitors from both sides of Fury/Talos’ resistance and Gravik-led rebel Skrulls, the fourth one once again addresses the threat to the sovereignty of the world governments that the Skrulls represent. The hierarchy of the United States government suffers a major setback as even more shocking revelations are made about the Skrull infiltration, but somehow the feeling is bound to creep up in fans’ minds that the event could have taken advantage of a big-budget movie adaptation instead of basically being a Nick Fury show. In the previous episode of Secret Invasion, Nick Fury’s Skrull wife, Priscilla/Varra, turned out to be in cahoots with Gravik, something Fury has started suspecting.
While helping her father, Talos, stop the attack on the U.N. envoy, G’iah’s treachery gets exposed to Gravik, who shoots her to death.

Rip to a real one. Talos, one of the best characters Marvel has introduced to the MCU since they began wrapping up the Infinity Saga, is dead. Ben Mendelsohn will certainly not be short of work and never really is; he’s a terrific actor who always gives 100% to any role, and though his time as the gentle Skrull Talos was pretty fleeting, it always seemed to pack a punch. If you’re already missing Mendelsohn’s Australian lilt and disheveled demeanor (I know I am) he’s the lead of a new TV series coming out soon on Apple TV+ called The New Look, where he plays fashion designer Christian Dior opposite Juliette Binoche as Coco Chanel. I will be watching!
But for now, we shall draw our attention back to episode four of Secret Invasion, “Beloved”, named after a section of the poem “Late Fragment” by Raymond Carver.

It seems mostly everybody has a favorite comic book character. And that certainly doesn’t exclude those within the Marvel Cinematic Universe, as actor Ben Mendelsohn, who plays the Skrull Talos on Disney+ series Secret Invasion – has selected his own pick. And no, it’s not Nick Fury – or even a hero, as Doctor Doom ranked as his #1 Marvel character, having made his first appearance in The Fantastic Four #5.
Speaking with The Wrap, Mendelsohn – who played Talos previously in Captain Marvel and in a Spider-Man: Far From Home cameo – cited exactly why he choose Doctor Doom as the best Marvel creation ever. “Victor von Doom is the greatest single character in the entire MCU, bar none. He’s the first character to ever have a substantive backstory that we could understand and that gives context in both the old traditional Cold War mind of state kind of idea and also...

In Captain Marvel (2019), the former Kree AI hive-mind ruler, Supreme Intelligence, might have poisoned the titular character’s mind initially by falsifying against the shapeshifting alien race of Skrulls. But she was totally on point about the dangerous potential of the alien race, which the ongoing Disney+ series Secret Invasion has already showcased and will expand upon as well. Disenchanted by the failure of Nick Fury and former Skrull leader Talos to provide the refugee Skrulls with a planet of their own, rebel Skrulls chose the extremist Gravik as their leader. Gravik’s hardliner mindset has been showcased through the Moscow bombing and his willingness to eradicate humanity and make Earth the new home for Skrulls.
As if the situation wasn’t already disastrous, it is also revealed that Skrulls have already started impersonating leading figures across the globe, gaining control over administrative and media sectors. The treacherous actions of...

As Kyle Bradstreet’s Secret Invasion reaches its halfway point, the spy series is surprising us in more ways than one. It’s not just the shocking death of Emilia Clarke’s G’iah and the well-signposted reveal that Don Cheadle’s James “Rhodey” Rhodes is a Skrull that make Episode 3 worth a watch. Somehow, Secret Invasion has done the almost unthinkable and made us reconsider Iron Man 3.
Up there with Alan Taylor’s Thor: The Dark World and (more recently) Chloé Zhao’s Eternals, Shane Black’s 2013 threequel is often held as one of the ‘worst’ Marvel Cinematic Universe movies. While even a bad MCU outing usually fares better than an average DC movie, Iron Man 3’s reception hasn’t exactly improved over the years. As the possibility of a World War looms in the background, the opposing forces of humans, led by Nick Fury, and Skrull, led by Gravik, seek to smoke out the traitors from their ranks. In the previous episode of Secret Invasion, Nick Fury was informed that aside from the bunch of Skrulls who’d accompanied their former leader Talos to Earth, a million other Skrulls had sought refuge on the planet and were living in secrecy by taking human appearances. The gravity of the situation is further addressed by the shocking revelation that the entire Skrull council is impersonating leading figures around the globe, both in administrative sectors and the media.
To add to the misery, the rebel leader Gravik is seen to be planning a countermeasure against the superpowered forces and making secretive efforts to bionically reengineer Skrulls to adapt several powers of their own. In the final moments of the last episode,...

With a rich tapestry of characters, it's disconcerting Secret Invasion can't tell a cohesive story worthy of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
After watching Secret Invasion Season 1 Episode 3, my hopes are officially dashed that the series can turn things around.
If you're not worth watching by the halfway mark, then it's pretty much a given that the second half won't improve much.
It's a shame because the cast is phenomenal.
You don't have Samuel L. Jackson, Ben Mendelsohn, Olivia Colman, and Emilia Clarke in the same project and waste their talents.
G'iah's death lacked the punch in the guts we got at the end of Secret Invasion Season 1 Episode 1.
Maria Hill was done dirty by the writers because, just when we were promised a more significant arc for Colbie Smulders' alter ego, she was gunned down.
G'iah has been challenging to read, thanks to her lack of expression.

Not much happens in the third episode of Secret Invasion, but “Betrayed” is easily the best instalment of the Marvel show yet. The show got off to a messy, uneven start, but after a much-improved second episode it seems to have hit its stride here, as the relationships between the main players gel together and the fraught nature of their history deepens. This episode also has some of the best lighting and composition I’ve seen in the MCU to date.

The first Disney+ series of the MCU’s fifth phase of storytelling, Secret Invasion, is airing, and the released first two episodes have provided viewers with a basic overview regarding the grounded espionage plot of the series revolving around shapeshifting alien Skrulls. The eponymous event was of significant importance in Marvel comics, where the infiltration of Skrulls among the ranks of established superheroes and other characters created an engaging, unpredictable intrigue. The Disney+ series takes a different approach to the crisis, bringing street-level players to the forefront. It weaves a political espionage storyline around the crisis, as the Skrulls, who came to seek refuge on Earth, turn out to have been playing the role of puppeteers all along, taking the guise of world leaders to orchestrate global events. Despite the difference in approach, a number of Easter eggs that give a nod to the source material and connection to the...

Director Ali Selim, who has directed the spy-thriller-espionage series ‘Secret Invasion’, has said the show has a darker and more grounded tone as opposed to other MCU offerings. However, the director has said that one of the things which helped in enhancing that tone was the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war and the massive tensions between US and Russia.
According to The Hollywood Reporter: “It’s coincidence, serendipity, danger and all of the above. But the thing that I like about it is that this show is meant to be real and grounded,” Selim said.
“The stakes are Earth and humanity, as opposed to something off in outer space that’s more abstract or fictional. So the real-life conflict between Russia and the U.S. only helps to make this story feel more real’.”

Secret Invasion director Ali Selim may have been directing the latest chapter of the ongoing Marvel Cinematic Universe, but he merely focused on the story in front of him. Yes, he knew he’d have to pass the Nick Fury baton to Nia DaCosta’s upcoming film, The Marvels, but the handoff never distracted from the story he was telling involving an aging Fury (Samuel L. Spoiler Alert: This story discusses plot developments in Episode 2 of Marvel Studios’ “Secret Invasion,” currently streaming on Disney+.
Samuel L. Jackson has played the super spy Nick Fury in 11 movies for Marvel Studios. Sometimes, he’s appeared in only a brief cameo; other times, he’s been the second or third lead in a movie with “Captain” in the title. In every appearance, Jackson exudes preternatural calm and cunning as one of the most formidable, non-superpowered humans in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. But it wasn’t until the actor’s first foray as the lead in an MCU project — the Disney+ series “Secret Invasion” — that Marvel has really addressed the fact that Nick Fury is also a Black man who grew up in America.
“We very seldom deal with Nick Fury in that way,” Jackson says.

If you’re going to take on Nick Fury, you best be strong and smart enough to do it. For Kingsley Ben-Adir’s Gravik, the insurgent leader at the core of “Secret Invasion,” the key to being able to be those things was to also be entirely void of emotional connections.
Two episodes into Marvel’s new series, now streaming on Disney+, it’s abundantly clear that Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) isn’t the Fury we once knew. He’s been changed by the blip and is clearly no longer “the spy,” as Tony Stark once referred to him. Still, he needs to step up to take on Gravik, a skrull who has become disillusioned by the promises of Fury and Talos (Ben Mendelsohn) and has orchestrated an invasion of massive scale.

Marvel wants you to know without a doubt that Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) is straight.
After spending two episodes in the intimate company of Ben Mendelsohn’s Talos, Fury arrives home at the end of “Secret Invasion” Episode 2 to kiss a human woman. As a credit to both actors, it’s one of the more passionate kisses in the entire MCU — but feels more than a little like overcompensation for Fury’s crackling, outrageous chemistry with Talos (Ben Mendelsohn).
“Secret Invasion” does a lot to fill in the gaps between its timeline and the inciting events of “Captain Marvel,” set more than 30 years earlier — including establishing that Fury and Talos have remained close and been working together to protect both humans and Skrulls. When they reunite on Earth in Episode 1, they put their foreheads together in a universally acknowledged gesture of intimacy that took this reporter’s breath away.

After starting on a serious note by showcasing the complexities introduced by the infiltration of the shapeshifting alien Skrulls into human society, the second episode of Disney+’s latest release, Secret Invasion, dials it down a bit to showcase the implications of the invasion in its true sense. In the previous episode, we saw that as a result of consecutive terrorist attacks conducted by a rebel sect of Skrull led by the renegade Gravik, Nick Fury was forced to return to Earth from his aerospace defense mission in space.
Fury learned from his friend, former Skrull leader Talos, and agent Maria Hill that the rebels have created and are using the organization ‘A.A.R.’ (Americans Against Russia) as a front and are planning a bombing of Moscow, which could spark a vicious war between two nations. After watching Secret Invasion Season 1 Episode 1, I had many thoughts, many of which were not optimistic about this latest chapter in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Thankfully, Secret Invasion Season 1 Episode 2 filled in many blanks and gave Nick's return to Earth the purpose the series needs to sustain an arc throughout a season.
It wasn't perfect by any means, but it was an improvement.
Had Disney+ merged the first two episodes and cut out some unnecessary scenes, it could have been a stellar entry into the world of Secret Invasion.
One of the biggest complaints of the MCU has been style over substance for recent projects, and these two episodes, combined with some tweaks, could have highlighted Marvel's desire to deliver more compelling content.
We don't want a series that feels like a missed opportunity, but "Promises" was the best foot forward to establish the conflicts.

Jackson) indoctrinates the refugee Skrulls he helped rescue from the Kree into being helpful little human-presenting foot soldiers. It’s nauseating! We know Nick isn’t perfect and how manipulative he can be, but it seems like this series really wants to expose more of what he’s been capable of over the years to get the job done.
We meet a younger version of Gravik (Kingsley Ben-Adir), and see that he is beginning to form a connection with Talos’ daughter, G’iah (Emilia Clarke). Unlike G’iah, Gravik is an orphan, and Nick initially pushes back on recruiting a child soldier to his cause, but it doesn’t take much to convince him. He promises the gathered...

When we first meet Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) again in Marvel’s new Disney+ streaming series, Secret Invasion, he’s a different man than when we last saw him.
Dressed in grubby street clothes as opposed to his usual sleek black tactical gear, his eyepatch missing, his beard grown out and his posture a bit slumped, the usually unflappable former head of S.H.I.E.L.D. finally seems old. Almost defeated. But that’s what years of protecting the Earth from menaces both homegrown and otherworldly will do to you, right?
“Nick Fury [is] a human being, not a superhero,” says director Ali Selim, who helms all six episodes of Secret Invasion, starting with today’s (June 21) premiere. “He returns to Earth and puts his feet on the ground…he’s aging, which is interesting to me, gaining wisdom, losing a step, finding purpose within a world that is changing.

Los Angeles, June 24 (Ians) The new espionage-thriller series ‘Secret Invasion’, which stars Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury and Olivia Coleman, shows them as frenemies, adopting different methods to protect Earth from Skrull separatists.
‘Secret Invasion’ adopts a darker tone as the espionage-thriller dives deeper into Nick Fury’s character, grappling with both the former ‘S.H.I.E.L.D’ director’s growing age and post-blip malaise, showing that he has lost his edge. His age and the resulting trauma from the blip is so noticeable that Fury’s inner circle has doubts whether he will be able to stop the Skrull rebellion that the separatist leader Gravik is leading.
Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Jackson said of his character: “At a certain point, he’s smart enough to understand that people are seeing something that he is not seeing or feeling something that he is not feeling. And...
