EW has shared two new official promo stills for Alien: Romulus as part of their summer preview, and one of 'em pays homage to a scene from Aliens.
In James Cameron's follow-up to Ridley Scott's '70s classic, Corporal Hicks (Michael Biehn) shows Ripley (Sigourney Weaver) how to use a pulse rifle before the crew land in some real pretty sh*t with the attacking Xenomorphs, and the moment is recreated here with Archie Renaux's Tyler and Cailee Spaeny's Rain Carradine.
The second image gives us another look at a Xenomorph about to give an unfortunate crew member a very bad day.
While the previous movies focused on blue-collar colleagues, soldiers, and prisoners, director Fede Alvarez explains how Romulus will take a different approach by introducing a group of characters who have become as close as family.

A new image from Fede Alvarez's Alien: Romulus has been released (via USA Today), and it gives us another look at one of the movie's Xenomorphs as it bares its terrifying metallic teeth
A few subtle changes aside, the titular creature has pretty much remained the same since it first debuted in Ridley Scott's original classic, and it doesn't look like Romulus is going to alter the design to any great extent.
Check out the new image below, along with a recent video clip of one of the movie's practical Facehuggers.

In recent years, we've seen more and more news of book-to-film adaptations getting TV remakes. Examples include His Dark Materials, Percy Jackson and the Olympians, Interview with the Vampire, Reacher, as well as upcoming high-octane adaptations like Twilight and, of course, Harry Potter.
Some of us see this pop culture phenomenon as a miserable exploitation of once-popular franchises, while others are thrilled by the success of the aforementioned reboots. But what few can argue with is the fact that in 2024, technological capabilities have improved and the series can accommodate much more detail than the movie.
That's why the upcoming Harry Potter show could be a great opportunity for a long-awaited depiction of one of the best moments in the book that was barely touched on in the movie.
New Harry Potter Show Already in the Works
In April 2023, Warner Bros. officially announced that J.K. Rowling's fantasy novels would officially get a new live-action adaptation.

Alien: Romulus opens exclusively in theaters nationwide August 16, 2024.
The production and set design are incredible – it’s a terrific combination of the Nostromo from the original 1979 film as well as the elevator from the 1986 sequel Alien.
In today’s interview with the Hollywood Reporter, Alvarez said of Ridley Scott and James Cameron:
James Cameron is also someone I’ve met through the years, and when he learned that I was doing it, we started chatting about it. So I also...

Talk about effective trailers. The one-minute teaser for Alien: Romulus captures the terror of being trapped with a creature while not giving away any spoilers.
The teaser arrived along with a poster and new stills from the much-anticipated, long-awaited eighth entry in the Alien franchise. Alien: Romulus is set between 1979’s Alien and 1986’s Aliens, and in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter director Fede Álvarez (Evil Dead) confirmed how it fits into the Alien universe.
“I love all of those movies. I didn’t want to omit or ignore any of them when it comes to connections at a story level, character level, technology level and creature level. There’s always connections from Alien to Alien: Covenant,” said Álvarez says.
The sci-fi film stars Cailee Spaeny (Priscilla), David Jonsson (Agatha Christie’s Murder is Easy), Archie Renaux (Shadow and Bone), Isabela Merced (The Last of Us), Spike Fearn (Aftersun), and Aileen Wu.

Cailee Spaeny has played American royalty in “Priscilla,” a futuristic photojournalist in Alex Garland’s upcoming “Civil War,” and now is leading the reboot of the iconic “Alien” franchise.
Spaeny is front and center in the teaser trailer for 20th Century Studios’ “Alien: Romulus,” set 20 years after the events of the 1979 original film that launched Sigourney Weaver’s action stardom. Spaeny plays scientist Rain Carradine, one of the young space colonizers that come face to face with the titular murderous alien while scavenging the deep ends of a derelict space station.
“Madame Web” star Isabela Merced is in the cast, as are David Jonsson, Archie Renaux, Spike Fearn, and Aileen Wu.
“Romulus” is the seventh film in the “Alien” franchise — the ninth if you include the “Alien vs. Predator” crossover sci-fi action movies. “Alien” director Ridley Scott produces the film from writer/director Fede Alvarez, who co-wrote the script with Rodo Sayagues.

A simmering, years-long row between J.K. Rowling and broadcaster India Willoughby has spilled over into a police complaint against the Harry Potter author over alleged transphobia.
Willoughby, who has appeared on Celebrity Big Brother in the UK and co-hosted shows including Loose Women, said she had reported Rowling to Northumbria Police in recent days.
In an interview with Byline TV, Willoughby claimed she had a “cut and dry” complaint against Rowling, arguing that she had been repeatedly misgendered by the writer.
Willoughby underwent gender reassignment surgery in 2015 and was credited with being the first transgender TV news reporter in the UK, working for ITV Tyne Tees regional news.
In recent days, Rowling has repeatedly declined to use Willoughby’s preferred pronouns and has openly mocked the broadcaster in posts on Twitter, now X.

Exclusive: And then there were three. As Deadline reported exclusively earlier this month, the field of writers in the running to adapt Jk Rowling’s Harry Potter books into a live-action series for Max has been narrowed down to three finalists. We can now reveal their names — according to sources, they are Francesca Gardiner, Tom Moran and Kathleen Jordan. The trio will be able to hone in on their pitches for the next couple of months, with a decision on who gets the job expected in June, we hear. As Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav announced last week, the Harry Potter series is slated to debut on Max in 2026.
Reps for Max and the studio behind the series, Warner Bros. Television, declined to comment.
Gardiner, Moran and Jordan are among the names of writers in contention reported exclusively by Deadline over the past month.

Prepare to board the train to Hogwarts as the Harry Potter live-action series reboot may have zeroed in on its showrunner, as this recent report alludes. Previously, several names were being thrown into the mix, and it was believed Succession writer Francesca Gardiner was shortlisted as one of the finalists who’d be in the running to snag the role of the upcoming show’s creative leader.
This latest scoop, though, affirms that Warner Bros. may have settled on a clear winner to spearhead the adaptation, and it could indeed be Gardiner.

Exclusive: Things are heating up at Hogwarts.
The Harry Potter television series is closer to naming its creative leader as Deadline understands that the shortlist is now down to three names.
We hear that Succession writer Francesca Gardiner is now among the finalists to score the job of adapting Jk Rowling’s books for the Max streaming platform. It’s understood that Gardiner is now one of three writers currently being considered to lead Harry and his pals on the small screen.
A decision is expected soon. Max and Warner Bros. Television declined to comment.
Gardiner has emerged after Deadline revealed last month that there were four other writers in contention: Martha Hillier, Kathleen Jordan, Tom Moran and Michael Lesslie. It’s not clear which of these writers are still involved.
Gardiner was a consulting producer on Seasons 3 and 4 of HBO’s Succession. Before working on the Jesse Armstrong creation,...

Warner Bros is meeting with writers as plans for a ten-year Harry Potter television series continue to move forward.
The story so far. The Harry Potter series of eight movies proved so wildly successful that Warner Bros was keen to get some kind of spin-off going.
Author J K Rowling, someone who it’d be fair to say has attracted some opinions in recent times, duly made the jump from book author to screenwriter, and we got the tepid Fantastic Beasts collection of films. There were supposed to be five of them, but the franchise appears to have stopped at three, with dwindling interest and box office returns seemingly stopping the series in its tracks.
Warner Bros thus decided to go back to the drawing board, and rather than try something new, it now wants a fresh adaptation of Rowling’s novels instead. This time they’re heading for TV,...

Marking the directorial debut of Tom Moran – whose Amazon thriller series The Devil’s Hour picked up an International Emmy nomination for Best Drama this week – Romanesco is a wonderfully mind-boggling piece of philosophical cinema. It finds a young woman trapped in an infinite dream with no means of escape. The people around her appear to be on a loop, the scenarios inside the dream are constantly repeating themselves, and the hard boiled egg she’s trying to eat confounds her expectations every time it’s peeled. Inside this discombobulating chaos, however, is a large existential question, and despite the sizeable array of meta-elements Moran’s direction is expertly precise and the story unfurls in a way that is immensely pleasurable to follow. Dn is delighted to premiere Romanesco online, alongside an illuminating conversation with Moran about its swift yet immensely fruitful production and seeing how audiences worldwide unpack its many mysteries.

Directed by Michael Oblowitz, Confidential Informant is part buddy cop drama and part crime thriller that works fine despite its superficial narrative. Having a cast that includes the likes of Mel Gibson doesn’t hurt, and the film manages to keep the viewers engaged in patches, if not throughout its entire runtime. The plot of Confidential Informant revolves around two war veterans, Tom Moran and Mike Thornton, who, after their stint in the Gulf War, come to work in the narcotics department of the NYPD. Their leader is the experienced Kevin Hickey, who knows what it’s like to return to civilian life after the war. After Tom discovers he has cancer and his time is limited, he asks his partner Mike to help him with a deadly plan that will help his family survive after he is gone.

We get to see them raid a crack operation and then lie to their superior over little things like not having a search warrant. Wonderful people indeed.
While tossing a baseball around with his son Moran collapses in pain. His wife Anna tells him he needs to see a doctor. He’s seen a doctor, three of them in fact, and they all tell him he has stomach cancer and not too long to live. The new Alien feature from filmmaker Fede Alvarez has found its chest-bursting cast.
David Jonsson, Archie Renaux, Spike Fearn and Aileen Wu have joined Cailee Spaeny in 20th Century Studios’ latest installment of the science-fiction horror franchise.
Alvarez, who is known for his tense and sometimes splatter-filled flicks such as Don’t Breathe and the remake of Evil Dead, is directing the project that begins production in Budapest March 9. He also wrote the script with frequent collaborator Rodo Sayagues.
Plot details are being kept in a cryochamber, but as opposed to the other movies which focused on adults in corporate, militaristic and scientific roles, this now-ninth installment of the franchise will focus on a group of young people. On a distant colony, the group finds themselves in a fight for their lives with the titular alien, a creature known as a Xenomorph, whose race propagates by implanting eggs into people’s...

One of Amazon Prime’s most recent releases, The Devil’s Hour premiered on 28th October, and is a twisty, high-concept thriller that will keep you guessing all the way through its six episodes.
The series is written by Tom Moran, and comes from the team behind Sherlock and Dracula, including former Doctor Who showrunner Steven Moffat. The plot centres on a troubled woman who wakes up every night at 3.33am – the so-called devil’s hour – and sees terrifying visions, which get her caught up in a series of brutal murders and a disappearance from many years ago.
The show boasts an impressive lineup of acting talent – so let’s meet the cast of The Devil’s Hour:
Peter Capaldi as Gideon Shepherd
Capaldi plays the reclusive Gideon, an apparently murderous obsessive on a mission, and a mysterious, enigmatic figure. We’ve recently rounded up Peter Capaldi’s best roles, but...

For most of the six episode run time of The Devil’s Hour, created by Tom Moran and co-exec produced by Steven Moffat and Sue Vertue, it is not entirely clear what the hell is even going on. Lucy (Jessica Raine) is having nightmares about things that never happened and visions of tragedies yet to occur. Her son Isaac is a strange little boy who repeats back things said to him, has multiple imaginary friends and displays no emotion ever – he’s not autistic, he’s not schizophrenic and the latest in the line of doctors working with Lucy and Isaac (played by Meera Syal) doesn’t know what’s wrong with him either.
Meanwhile, somewhere, sometime, Lucy is in a room with strange old man Gideon (Peter Capaldi). She has bruises all over her face, and he is handcuffed to the table. “What’s the worst thing that you have ever experienced?...

Are you ready for "a big ball of wibbly wobbly, time wimey stuff" that has very little to do with "Doctor Who," other than the fact that it happens to star Peter Capaldi, the Twelfth Doctor? If so, look no further than "The Devil's Hour," which perp-walks Capaldi in a red prison jumpsuit for all the world — or at least Prime Video viewers — to see. You don't have to be a subscriber to Prime Video to watch the trailer for "The Devil's Hour," but that's where this new six-episode series will be streaming.
"The Devil's Hour" sees Capaldi sitting across an interrogation room table from Jessica Raine, who plays a woman named Lucy Chambers, with a link to one of several victims that Capaldi's character, Gideon, is suspected of killing. The series is created by Tom Moran, but there's one other "Doctor Who" connection with it in that Steven Moffat...
