"We need a shelter." Pathe in France has unveiled the official trailer for Acid, a horror movie from France about acid rain. Acide is the second feature film from French filmmaker Just Philippot, who last made the flesh-eating locusts horror film The Swarm a few years back. Acide initially premiered at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival earlier this year as one of their Midnight selections - still waiting for a US release date. During a heat wave, strange clouds start pouring down lethal acid rain, wreaking devastation and panic throughout France. In a world teetering on the edge, a girl and her divorced parents must join forces to confront and try to escape this climate catastrophe. The other synopsis calls the acid a "plague ravaging the world." Starring Guillaume Canet, Laetitia Dosch, and Patience Munchenbach. This actually looks pretty terrifying! He really pulled off making an acid rain horror movie look scary.

Eau-forte
Breaking onto the scene in the thick of the pandemic with 2020’s The Swarm (Critics’ Week selection), Just Philippot continues to find inspiration in the elements that surround us and from his own library lifting award-winning Sundance-selected short Acide for the long-form. Production on his sophomore film took place in March of last year, and with post work could resurface in Cannes. Guillaume Canet, Laetitia Dosch, Patience Munchenbach and Marie Jung are among the players the French filmmaker enlisted. Eau-forte (aka Blame in on the Rain) was produced by Yves Darondeau, Clément Renouvin, Jérôme Seydoux and Ardavan Safaee.

A perfectly charmant way to, as the song has it, forget about your worries and your strife for 100 airy minutes, writer-director Erwan le Duc’s “The Bare Necessity” is a breezy little sweetheart of a debut, that threatens to give the rather ominous description “quirky French romantic comedy” a good name. In its dappled countryside sunlight, even the most ostensibly twee elements — a bumbling local police force; a nudist colony; a historical reenactment society; an eccentric rural family with a matriarch whose radio show is dedicated to the breathy discussion of, what else, l’amour — are treated with an amiably deadpan affection that is infectious without ever becoming ingratiating.
“Love Is Real” is the title of the radio phone-in hosted by Thérèse Perdrix (Fanny Ardant) during which she offers callers husky words of advice and encouragement in pursuing their various romantic follies. She is unaware, however, that the show is...
