Joseph Pevey
- Writer
Joseph (Joe) Pevey was born in Mobile Alabama and grew up in Alabama and Mississippi. At the age of 21 he became a police offer in Biloxi MS and later a Sheriff's Deputy for Harrison County. In his law enforcement carrier he performed duties in just about every type of assignment in the field from patrol, motorcycle traffic, narcotics, crime scene investigation, criminal investigations, training and finally administration. After 26 years he retired at the rank of Captain with a wealth of training and war stories to tell.
After assisting as a technical consultant on a project for Running Wild Films (Cornbread Cosa Nostra) he was encouraged to write about some of the "war stories" he told to the cast and crew during down times in production. From this, in 2018 he began to write feature length scripts. In his words "if you think about it, a cop has a PhD as a screenwriter! All we do is document and write stories to paint a picture that can to be retold to a judge or a jury in court".
One of his feature screenplays (Bastard's Crossing) is scheduled to start filming January 2, 2020 and a second film (Turn and Burn) the following November. The screenplay for Bastard's Crossing was also awarded an honorable mention at The Wild Bunch Film Festival in October 2019. This is quite an accomplishment considering the kind of competition it was up against by more seasoned writers and being such an early work by a newcomer.
Joe lives in Gulfport Mississippi and has a few other scrips in the works. "I'm still not comfortable with being called a screenwriter" he says. "But I do tell stories".
