Philip is a 27 year-old Black man, originally from Detroit and now based in Los Angeles, California. Philip writes, produces, acts in, and directs TV shows & films. Founded by Philip Johnson in 2018, Philaye Films, Inc. is a Black-owned entertainment company. Philaye Films empowers our Black & LGBTQIA+ communities through representation, opportunities, and creative advocacy.
Philip creates and produces films and shows primarily focused on bringing unique creative light to the Black LGBTQ+ community. With a Bachelor's of Business Administration from the University of Michigan, Johnson has been building Philaye Films into a studio creating and producing Black, Queer shows & films! Blowing up in 2021 from his viral "Gays as.." mini-series on social media in partnership with Jack'd, Johnson was the recipient of Speak Out's 2022 "Influencer of Excellence" Award and Atlanta Black Pride's 2022 Creative Communication Award.
He has produced films, pilots and a web-series that have premiered for sold-out crowds in cities across America, been selected for the Las Vegas Black Film Festival, and are now available to watch on streaming platforms.
As Philaye Films grows as a studio, Philip plans to continue creating positive entertainment, spaces and opportunities for our marginalized Black LGBTQ+ community.
