Another champion has been crowned on Jeopardy!‘s Invitational Tournament, and it looks like we very well could be heading towards a repeat matchup in the upcoming Jeopardy! Masters primetime event on ABC. On Wednesday’s semifinals, Sam Kavanaugh, Andrew He, and Larissa Kelly faced off for the chance to advance and face off with the first Jit winner, Amy Schneider. The first round found Kelly getting just one answer wrong of 13 buzz-ins — unfortunately, though, it was on a true Daily Double. Meanwhile, Kavanaugh struggled at the outset, and while He had fewer correct answers than Kelly, he had more money, leading with $5,600 to Kelly’s $4,000 and Kavanaugh’s $800. Double Jeopardy was a similar story. Only, this time, it was He who got both of the Daily Doubles (and answered them correctly). By the end of the round, He had a runaway lead with a whopping $32,000 to Kelly’s $13,200 and Kavanaugh’s $9,200. Perhaps unsurprisingly,...

Jeopardy!‘s Invitational Tournament continues to rage on and it was a close call for a fan-favorite in the March 28th quarterfinals match between Sam Kavanaugh, Chuck Forrest, and Monica Thieu. As a five-game champion from Season 35 and 2021 Tournament of Champions winner, Sam has been a recent favorite among viewers of the game show. But things weren’t looking good for Sam early on as he entered Double Jeopardy with a meager $200 against Chuck’s $2,600 and Moncia’s impressive $8,200. Things began to turn around for Sam in the Double Jeopardy round as he snagged both Daily Doubles delivering correct responses for clues in the categories “Art Terms” and “Science.” In both instances, he added thousands to his score, leaving him at a marginal lead over Chuck’s $11,000 with $12,000. Still, Sam was trailing behind Monica’s $15,800 as they entered Final Jeopardy. The category was “20th Century Books” with the clue being,...

Sam Kavanaugh, who won Jeopardy!‘s Tournament of Champions in 2021, has shared his “disappointment” after not being invited to participate in the recently announced Masters tournament. On Wednesday (Jan 11), ABC gave the green light to Jeopardy! Masters, which will see the six highest-ranked, current Jeopardy! contestants face off in a Champions League-style event. The six contestants include recent super-champs Amy Schneider, Matt Amodio, Mattea Roach, and Andrew He, along with Professors’ Tournament winner Sam Buttrey and Toc 2019 winner James Holzhauer. The inclusion of the 2019 Toc winner over the more recent 2021 Toc victor came as somewhat of a surprise, especially for Kavanaugh, who took to Twitter on Wednesday to share his thoughts. “Well, seeing the news today that I am not invited to the Jeopardy Masters was a bit of a gut punch,” he tweeted. “Nothing is ever guaranteed so I wasn’t planning on it, but because every other ToC...

The 250,000 prize wasn’t the only thing Jeopardy! super-champ Amy Schneider won after coming out on top of the 2022 Tournament of Champions, as she also received a unique gift from last year’s Toc winner. Taking to Twitter, Schneider revealed that after she’d finished taping the Toc final, the 2021 champion, Sam Kavanaugh, approached her “holding a box.” She continued, “I had no idea what he was giving me, although I should have! See, apparently Buzzy Cohen felt that the ToC winner should have a championship belt…” “So, [Cohen] gave one to James [Holzhauer], James had given one to Sam, and now Sam was giving one to me! Now that I know I think it’s a nice tradition. But now I guess at some point I’ll have to figure out how one makes a customized championship belt!” she added alongside a photo of her pro-wrestling-style Jeopardy! belt. So, he gave one to James,...
