Sony Pictures Television’s President of International Production, Wayne Garvie, has said the scripted TV landscape in the post-peak TV era is like “going back to the future” — especially with his Netflix hits The Crown and Sex Education coming to an end.
During a keynote interview here at Series Mania in Lille, France, Garvie acknowledged that levels of global drama production had fallen, and that working with traditional networks and streamers on projects of all types would be critical going forwards.
He added: “The ecology of TV production is a very fragile thing,” and said: “The future is going to be more about collaboration,” but refuted the idea the market is depressed. “Everyone knows that not as much drama is being commissioned as was being commissioned, but more drama is being commissioned now than at most times in human history.”

(Updated with more results & Super Tuesday details) The Congressman from Hollywood is one big step closer to becoming the Golden State’s junior Senator, but saw up-close this Super Tuesday some of the visceral challenges Democrats face from their own base.
In the double header that is California’s primary this Super Tuesday, Adam Schiff secured the top spot with just under 40% of the vote in. NBC News and the Associated Press called it for Schiff just over 30 minutes after the polls closed in the nation’s most populous state.
Not that the night was all balloon drops and victory dances for the veteran Congressman.
Dozens of protesters chanting “ceasefire now” over the worsening situation in Gaza made it near impossible for Schiff to get though his speech to supporters at Avalon on LA’s Vine Street.
Adam Schiff’s entire victory speech tonite was interrupted by protesters chanting for a ceasefire in Gaza.

Donald Trump cruised through Super Tuesday, as expected — but the night’s single biggest race may have been the U.S. Senate primary in California. It’s the first time in decades the seat in question has been seriously contested; Dianne Feinstein held it from 1992 until she died last September. She announced a few months earlier that she wouldn’t be seeking reelection, and the race to replace her has been raging ever since.

Katie Porter — the California representative famous for skewering corporate CEOs in congressional hearings — is sick of the “glacial” pace of the U.S. Senate and is brimming with plans to shake up the “stale” institution. If she can get elected.

Rep. Adam Schiff (D-ca) and Rep. Katie Porter (D-ca) are making their final TV ads buys before Tuesday’s Senate primary, but one candidate has shot to the top of the polls without spending a dime on such spots.
In fact, according to one poll released today, former Dodgers star and Republican Steve Garvey is leading, albeit slightly, with just days to go.
Garvey may have Schiff to thank for pumping up his prospects. According to research firm AdImpact, 60% of Schiff’s broadcast ads mention Garvey. None mention Porter.
That’s widely viewed as by design on Schiff’s part.
California has an open primary, and the top two finishers on Tuesday will advance to the general election, regardless of party. Schiff has had an enduring lead in most other polls, and by highlighting Garvey and his conservative positions, he may be helping consolidate the vote on the right. Sydney Sweeney and Glen Powell appeared in a romantic-comedy movie Anyone but You directed by Will Gluck from a screenplay he co-wrote with Ilana Wolpert. The movie is loosely based on William Shakespeare’s play Much Ado About Nothing, and upon its release received mixed reviews from the audience and critics.
Sweeney and Powell’s movie Anyone But You has managed to gross $200 million worldwide making it the highest-grossing live-action adaptation of Shakespeare’s play. The four leading candidates for California’s open U.S. Senate seat met again this evening, this time in a one-hour San Francisco debate that produced fewer clashes than their first gathering in January.
Still, with less than a month before the state’s open primary, Rep. Adam Schiff (D-ca) focused a number of his attacks on Steve Garvey, the sole Republican on the stage, particularly over the “issue” of Donald Trump.
“Let me just say this also to Mr. Garvey: The greatest threat that we have to our democracy is Donald Trump,” Schiff said.
Garvey voted for Trump in the last two presidential elections but said that, when it comes to supporting him this year, he “will make that decision when the time comes.” In response to Schiff, Garvey said that the “gravest threat to democracy is deconstruction of the Constitution. Packing the court. Doing away with the filibuster.

Adam Schiff’s Senate campaign announced a multimillion dollar, statewide ad buy for a spot that is most notable for who it singles out: Steve Garvey, the former Dodger great who is running as the highest profile Republican in a Democratic-dominated state.
In the spot, the narrator says, “Steve Garvey, the leading Republican, is too conservative for California — he voted for Trump, twice, and supported Republicans for years, including far right conservatives.
“Adam Schiff, the leading Democrat, defended democracy against Trump and the insurrectionists.”
Isn’t it to be expected that Schiff, one of the most prominent Trump foes in Congress, would want to highlight Garvey’s backing of the former Celebrity Apprentice host in the past two elections?
Perhaps, but these are the dynamics of an open primary, where the top two finishers in the March vote will go on to the general election, regardless of party.

The three Democrats running for California’s open Senate seat sought to define their differences at their first debate tonight, but the the real flashpoint was with the sole Republican on the stage, Steve Garvey, and where he stood on Donald Trump.
After he said that he would support the former president if he returned to office, Rep. Adam Schiff (D-ca), Rep. Katie Porter (D-ca) and Rep. Barbara Lee (D-ca) tried to get him to say whether he would vote for him again.
“What more do you need to see of what he’s done to say that you will not support him, that you will not vote to put him back in office?” Schiff asked.
“There’s identity politics at its finest right there, trying to paint me into the corner,” Garvey, the former Dodger star and political newcomer, responded. “Trying to call me Maga. … I am my own man.

It’s here, the newest Netflix thriller adapted from one of Harlan Coben’s ludicrously twist-packed, secret-filled crime mystery novels. This one comes adapted by Danny Brocklehurst with the same UK team that made The Five, Safe, The Stranger and Stay Close, and once again stars Richard Armitage in a central role.
Fool Me Once is the story of military helicopter pilot Maya Stern, a captain who loses her career in a scandal and suffers two bereavements in short succession. It’s fast-paced, kind of ridiculous viewing that takes you down an extremely twisty path before tying everything up in a big not-exactly-watertight-but-it’ll-do-fine knot – which makes it pretty perfect viewing for a brain-fogged New Year’s Day after all of December’s indulgences.

Steve Garvey, the Los Angeles Dodgers and San Diego Padres all star in the 1970s and 80s, announced a bid for the U.S. Senate seat that was held by Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-ca), who died last month.
Garvey is running for the Republican nomination in a state that has been dominated by Democrats, said in an introductory video that he is running a “common sense campaign.”
His launch video also is heavy in images from his baseball stardom, as he tells viewers, “Over 50 years ago I came to California for the first time.”
“I never played for Democrats or Republicans or independents,” he said. “I played for all of you.”
Garvey will compete in an open primary next March, when the top two finishers will go on to the November general election. State voter registration leans heavily Democratic, making up nearly 47%, according to Public Policy Institute of California. Given that dominance,...

Sharon Horgan was walking into an osteopath appointment in her native Ireland when she got the news she was double Emmy-nominated for writing and starring in Bad Sisters.
The show, which is adapted from a Flemish series, and streams on Apple TV+, follows the Garvey sisters who—spoiler alert— conspire to murder their sister’s manipulative and abusive husband.
Horgan, though delighted with her nominations, managed to “keep it in” during her medical appointment, she laughed. Although hers is the only acting nomination on the show, Horgan hopes the whole team can come to LA for the Emmys.

Many shows are about one thing in particular, with a number of subplots serving to support the main theme. While in some ways that is the case with the Apple TV+ drama “Bad Sisters,” there’s so much going on at any one given time that it’s almost hard to keep track of what started it all in the first place. That would be, of course, the death of The Prick (Claes Bang), also known as Jp, the manipulative, abusive husband of Grace (Anne-Marie Duff), and the show’s central mystery: did Grace’s four sisters kill him, and, if so, how did they do it?
This show moves seamlessly between multiple timelines, chronicling the inciting incident for each of the sisters that made them hate Jp, their multiple efforts to concoct a way to cleverly dispose of him, and the aftermath when a pair of insurance investigator brothers...

During a wide-ranging conversation at the Banff World Media Festival, award-winning multihyphenate Sharon Horgan discussed her lauded series Bad Sisters and the ongoing WGA strike.
Horgan, who was on hand at Banff to receive the Award of Excellence, sat down with The Hollywood Reporter editorial director Nekesa Mumbi Moody to talk about the audience and critical reaction to the Apple TV+ show, which has been ordered for a second season. “You really don’t know,” said Horgan when asked if the response to the show was expected. “In this case, [we’re] making a show about a woman in a domestic abuse situation, but we’re doing really broad comedy around that. You think, ‘Are people going to be really offended, or are we going to be able to strike the right tone?'”

The next season of “Bad Sisters” is slowly taking shape, even amid a writers strike.
Creator Sharon Horgan confirmed that she’s currently writing Season 2 of the hit Apple TV+ series “Bad Sisters,” which will continue the story of the Garvey clan after they successfully did away with their toxic brother-in-law Jean-Paul (played by a deliciously evil Claes Bang).
Horgan, who was being interviewed by The Hollywood Reporter’s Nekesa Mumbi Moody, was asked about being able to continue working on non-American shows and the “schizophrenic” nature of doing so amid the WGA strike.
“We just had to down tools on all of our U.S. projects, and yeah, I feel kind of guilty I still get to make a show in the U.K.,” replied Horgan after some thought. “Because it’s really difficult for writers — not just financially but also the fact that, you know, we love to write.

If your sister was being abused by her husband, what would you do? For Bad Sisters‘ Garvey siblings, the answer was simple. But killing their brother-in-law proved more difficult than they expected, not that they ever thought it’d be a walk in the park. Eve Hewson plays the youngest of the five sisters, Becka Garvey. The women were raised by eldest sister Eva after the deaths of their parents years prior. Becka is the first to volunteer to kill J.P. (Claes Bang), but through two timelines and many failed murder attempts, J.P.’s killer remains a mystery until the final episode. The Apple TV+ dark comedy will be back for Season 2. Here, Hewson shares how she, Horgan, Anne-Marie Duff (Grace), Eva Birthistle (Ursula), and Sarah Greene (Bibi) made the Garvey sisters’ closeness so believable, what to expect in Season 2, and why she feels Becka was the role...

“I was a bit nervous taking her on. I hadn’t really played a character like her before,” remembers actress Sarah Greene about accepting the role of Bibi Garvey in the Apple TV+ drama series “Bad Sisters.” Bibi is “front-footed and doesn’t really care what people think of her. I would be much more of a people-pleaser. So it was a bit of a challenge for me.” Watch our exclusive video interview with Greene above.

“Bad Sisters” had a terrific night at the BAFTA TV Awards on Sunday 14, May. After winning Best Titles and Graphic Identity at the BAFTA Craft Awards, the Apple TV+ show took home Best Drama Series and Best Supporting Actress for Anne-Marie Duff on the Sunday just gone, bringing its awards total up to three BAFTAs.
The show follows the five Garvey sisters, led by Sharon Horgan‘s Eva, who all try to kill the abusive husband (Claes Bang‘s Jp) of Duff’s Grace. Meanwhile, two insurance agents (Brian Gleeson‘s Thomas and Daryl McCormack‘s Matthew) attempt to prove the sisters’ involvement in Jp’s death. As Grace, Duff gets the plumb role of the show — combining both ferocity and vulnerability to give a performance that ultimately becomes the heart of the series.

Ted Lasso may have as many Emmys as there are AFC Richmond players in a match, but almost four years into the life of Apple TV+, it’s far from the only reason to visit the streamer. Since its launch in 2019, Apple has paid out for starry collaborations with big names in Hollywood both behind and in front of the camera, many of which have now – creatively at least – paid off.
It hasn’t been a straight ascent, but by sticking with the majority of their original shows over multiple season renewals rather than the slash ‘n’ burn approach elsewhere, Apple TV+ has established a healthy slate of acclaimed originals. There’s weird horror Servant, hard sci-fi Foundation, eerie drama Severance, spy thriller Slow Horses, plus real-life dramatisations, and a lot of very decent comedy. We pick our recommendations below.

Sharon Horgan could be set to follow in the footsteps of another acclaimed multi-hyphenate, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, by earning Emmy bids for both writing and starring in a beloved show. While Waller-Bridge achieved that feat for her comedy “Fleabag,” Horgan could do it for her Apple TV+ drama “Bad Sisters.” Horgan co-created, starred in, and wrote several episodes of this hit show, which follows the five Garvey sisters who plot to murder John Paul (Claes Bang), the abusive husband of Anne-Marie Duff‘s Grace Garvey.
The show flashes between two timelines — one in which the sisters try to kill John Paul and one in which a pair of insurance investigators (Brian Gleeson‘s Thomas and Daryl McCormack‘s Matthew) try to prove the sisters’ involvement in John Paul’s death to save their own business.
Horgan teamed up with “New Girl” scribes Brett Baer and Dave Finkel to adapt the hit Belgian show “Clan.

“Bad Sisters” doesn’t have a good Rotten Tomatoes score, it has a perfect one. The Apple TV+ drama series merits a jaw-dropping 100% on this site that aggregates reviews.
Created by Sharon Horgan, Dave Finkel, and Brett Baer, “Bad Sisters” follows the five Garvey sisters (led by Horgan’s eldest sister Eva) as they try to kill Claes Bang‘s John Paul, the abusive husband of Grace Garvey (Anne-Marie Duff). The action moves between two timelines. The first follows the sisters plotting John Paul’s murder while the second shows two insurance agents (Brian Gleeson‘s Thomas and Daryl McCormack‘s Matthew) trying to prove that the sisters were involved in John Paul’s death in a desperate attempt to save their business.
The juxtaposing timelines make for a whip-smart drama full of pitch-black comedy and pitch-perfect performances. It’s obvious why the show has received that perfect Rotten Tomatoes score.

Slasher: Ripper follows a mysterious serial killer in 19th-century Toronto amidst other violent acts committed by the people of the city. But “Widow,” as the killer is dubbed by Enid Jenkins, the town’s journalist, isn’t killing random people; everything relates to a particular event that took place 12 years ago. Young Detective Kenneth is right on target in his search for the Widow, but his boss isn’t keen on finding out who is after his city because he may have been involved in the crime that went down 12 years ago. Slasher is definitely for pure indulgence, as every episode ends or begins with a grisly death that the viewer looks forward to; sometimes, it almost feels like an overacted play.

The "Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Once & Always" anniversary special is a pure treat for the fans. Unlike the previous crossover specials, which had the current generation of Rangers team up with older ones for some emergent threat, this special focuses solely on the first show — the titular Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, and its two generations of Rangers that actually met and interacted 30 years ago. Because of this, "Once & Always" has the ability to go more specific in its references, and its loving tributes.

Actress and writer Sharon Horgan is well known to Hollywood at this point, and now the Emmy nominee has another shot at TV plaudits with her Apple TV+ drama “Bad Sisters.” Will the television academy embrace her latest?
Horgan rose to international fame and acclaim with her comedy series “Catastrophe” which she created, wrote, and starred in with Rob Delaney. That Amazon Prime original told the story of an American man and an Irish woman whose brief fling turns into a romance after she unexpectedly becomes pregnant. It earned Horgan and Delaney an Emmy nomination for Best Comedy Writing in 2016, and then Carrie Fisher earned a posthumous nom for Best Comedy Guest Actress in 2017.

We talked with Horgan as part of our “Meet the Experts” Writers Guild Award nominees panel. Watch our exclusive video interview above.
Adapted from a Belgian series, “Bad Sisters” tells the story of the Garvey siblings: Eva (Horgan), Grace (Anne-Marie Duff), Ursula (Eva Birthistle), Bibi (Sarah Greene), and Becka (Eve Hewson). Grace’s husband John Paul (Claes Bang) is emotionally abusive, so the other four sisters hatch a plot to save Grace by killing her dastardly spouse. Along the way the show incorporates humor into its deadly-serious premise. “It was the trickiest part of it,...
