Nicole Cliffe was born in Kingston, Ontario, and moved to the United States to attend university. She was a co-founder of The Toast, a popular niche website catering mostly to librarians and archivists. She lives and writes in Utah, with her husband and three children. Her work has appeared in The Guardian, Christianity Today, The Morning News, Vulture, ELLE, and Catapult. As of 2019, Nicole writes a twice-weekly parenting advice column for Slate.com, called "Care and Feeding."
