For years now, Veep has been one of the absolute funniest shows on television. That’s due, in no small part, to the efforts of a cast that includes Reid Scott and Matt Walsh. They’re both hilarious actors, blessed with the capability to embarrass themselves in the most humorous of ways. So, pairing them up for a buddy comedy of sorts would be solid gold, right? Well, not so fast. Opening this week, Under the Eiffel Tower has moments that shine between the two, but as it gets more serious, it shows how poorly cast one of the two are. It all ends up being a little too messy and a little too low key to fully work. We meet Stuart (Walsh) while he is in the midst of a mid life crisis. Recently unemployed, the bourbon salesman is getting drunk on his own product when best friend Frank...

"Inhale the bouquet... Every glass of wine is a courtship." The Orchard has unveiled an official trailer for an indie "romantic coming-of-middle-age comedy" titled Under the Eiffel Tower, which premiered at a few small festivals earlier this year. The latest from filmmaker Archie Borders, the film is about a middle-age man who tags along on his best friends' family vacation to Paris, then humiliates himself by proposing to their 24-year-old daughter. He then runs off with a friend where they soon cross paths with Louise, a beautiful vineyard-owner. Matt Walsh stars as Stuart, and the full cast includes Judith Godrèche, Reid Scott, Michaela Watkins, David Wain, Dylan Gelula, and Gary Cole. This looks quite good, there's some genuine charm to the humor in it. Might be worth a watch. Here's the first official trailer (+ poster) for Archie Borders' Under the Eiffel Tower, from YouTube: Stuart (Matt Walsh) is having a mid-life crisis.

The festival was forced to react to anger over the inclusion of Netflix titles, then the Manchester terror attack.
Monday’s night’s devastating attack in Manchester cast a pall over the final throes of a sluggish Cannes market and a festival selection that has lacked exuberance heading into its final stretch.
Flags flew at half-mast on Tuesday and there was a minute’s silence out of respect to the victims of the atrocity.
Swift messages of condolences came from the festival and the local mayor while Pixar cancelled a Cars 3 media event.
Security was never far from the agenda in Cannes. Heavily armed police were a constant presence and Cannes’ heightened state of alert kicked into action on Saturday when an ultimately harmless suspect package resulted in an evacuation of the Debussy during a press screening of Michel Hazanavicius’ Redoubtable.
The sudden death, aged 57, of Busan deputy director Kim Ji-seok at the start of the...
