Cinelinx has a wonderful thought after watching the Peter Pan: Diamond Edition Blu-ray!
The Set-up
Three British children are transported to Neverland, where a young boy named Peter and his band of Lost Boys do battle with the nefarious pirate Captain Hook. Based on the classic children's novel by Sir James Barrie.
The Delivery
Sir James M. Barrie's classic children's novel about the boy who never grew up has seen a number of incarnations, from the original story to a number of silent film and stage adaptations. Walt Disney's animated version, released in 1953, keeps some of the elements of the original story, with a good amount of Disneyfication (for lack of a better term) thrown in.
The fact that Disney softened some of the darker elements, added musical numbers, and changed a few things is hardly a drawback. In fact, it gives this version just the right personality and distinction.

In conjunction with the second edition of his hit book How Does the Show Go On?, Broadway producer Thomas Schumacher gave the keynote address at the Junior Theater Festival in Atlanta. The national festival dedicated to groups working with elementary and middle school aged young people, ran from January 16 -18, 2009. Schumacher's presentation (on Sunday, January 18), much like his book, enlightened more than 1,500 theater lovers about what goes into putting on a Broadway show. Child actor Henry Hodges, who starred as ?Michael Banks' in the original Broadway cast of Disney & Cameron Mackintosh's Mary Poppins joined Schumacher. Schumacher's much heralded book, How Does the Show Go On?, was originally released in 2007 and went on to sell over 50,000 copies. A second edition was released in late 2008 and has been updated to include Broadway's The Little Mermaid and the stage production of the mega-hit High School Musical. On Nov. 10, theatre producer Thomas Schumacher will receive the New York Apple Award from the Casting Society of America. Meanwhile three of his musicals are enjoying hit runs on Broadway, while several of his productions are touring the country or playing internationally. But he's most interested in talking about How Does the Show Go On? An Introduction to the Theater, the handsomely produced book he wrote last year (with Jeff Kurtti), which is now in a second edition. Actually, all these accomplishments are interrelated and spring from a single passion. "I have loved the theatre from the day I was born," he declares. Schumacher, who is the president of Disney Theatrical Group, made his mark in New York 10 years ago with the Tony Award-winning production of The Lion King. Since then he has spearheaded a string of Disney musicals — including Aida, Tarzan, Mary Poppins (co-produced with Cameron Mackintosh), and The Little Mermaid.
