Arsene Wenger reached the tremendous milestone of 1,000 matches in charge of Arsenal this weekend, a tally that has only ever been achieved once before- by Manchester United’s legendary former manager Sir Alex Ferguson. The stats show us that when you compare the two managerial greats, it is Wenger who has the best record during his first 1,000 games. Which in itself is a compliment.
During his 18 year tenure in charge of the North London club he has helped to make some fond memories for both Arsenal fans and football fans worldwide. There was the double winning sides, taking Arsenal to their first ever Champions League final, toppling Alex Ferguson’s dominant United side and of course the invincible side of 2004 that went the entire Premier League season undefeated, stretching their run to 49 games in total.
On top of this, Arsene Wenger was the prominent figure in moving...

Much to the surprise of many observers, the largely unknown Frenchman, Arsene Wenger, has transformed the dull, aging Arsenal side over-reliant on staunch defence and Ian Wright’s goals into genuine challengers to Manchester United at football’s top table.
Following the increased confidence of the mercurial Dutchman, Dennis Bergkamp and the immediate impact of the largely unknown Patrick Vieira, Arsenal were expected to challenge for a top four spot this year. Galvanised by the impact of Marc Overmars, the unheralded Emmanuel Petit, and the new kid on the block Nicolas Anelka, the team has a chance of winning its first trophy since the 1994 Cup Winners Cup miracle in Copenhagen.
After a good start, the now traditional November blip kicked in, with Arsenal losing four out of six fixtures in November and early December, and the pre-season predictions of a Uefa Cup spot looked accurate. However, since the last of those,...

Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew has not finished with his French revolution quite yet, and is weighing up the possibility of bringing in William Vainqueur from Standard Liege, according to The Sun
Pardew has already brought in the likes of Moussa Sissoko, Yoan Gouffran, Mathieu Debuchy, Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa and Massadio Haidara as he desperately seeks a way to lift his side to safety in the Premier League, and Standard midfielder Vainqueur would become his sixth French signing.
It is thought Newcastle are lining up a last-minute bid for the player, who is valued at £3 million.
Pardew has been tracking the midfielder throughout the course of the season after receiving encouraging reports from chief scout Graham Carr, who has revealed that the Magpies are attempting to replicate the old blueprint of Arsene Wenger at Arsenal by bringing in a golden era of French stars by landing the likes of Thierry Henry,...
