New films from Dan Sallitt and Katsuya Tomita are among the projects selected for FIDLab, the co-production market of France’s FIDMarseille (June 27-28).
US filmmaker Sallitt, who a 2021 Gotham for his Fourteen screenplay, will bring Late Autumn about a 67-year-old who decides to pursue medical school after mysteriously recovering from cancer.
Tomita’s project The Langfang Republic follows two friends, one a pop singer and the other a mafiosa, whose lives are shaken up by drastic events.
Other projects include Riar Rizaldi’s documentary South Sea exploring the death of ten Indonesians in 2022 who were swept by tidal waves...

Vienna-based sales company Square Eyes has acquired Tomasz Wolski’s Polish animated documentary “1970,” which picked up the Special Jury Award at this year’s Swiss doc fest Visions du Réel.
The stop-motion animated pic, which is screening at the Krakow Film Festival, chronicles the increasingly violent efforts by Poland’s communist leaders to end widespread demonstrations over rising prices of food and other everyday items.
Square Eyes also recently added Chloé Galibert-Laîné and Kevin B. Lee’s German-French documentary work “Bottled Songs 1-4,” a collection of shorts that follow the directors’ investigation of online jihadist propaganda and how media-savvy groups like Isis make effective use of stylistic devices drawn from Hollywood blockbusters.
“Bottled Songs 1-4” is screening at the International Film Festival Rotterdam in the Harbour section.
Likewise unspooling at IFFR is Square Eyes’ Dutch doc “A Man and a Camera” by Guido Hendrikx. The pic offers a silent tour of Dutch front doors,...

Carolina Moscoso’s Night Shot has won the Grand Prix at the Marseille International Film Festival (FIDMarseille).
The Chilean film marks Moscoco’s debut feature and uses text, candid footage, animation and sound design to confront her past trauma: a violent rape that occurred eight years previously when she was a film student. It was produced by Santiago-based El Espino Films.
