Working on an animated project for Warner Bros. Discovery has become a game of chicken with CEO David Zaslav in charge, as every week seems to bring about another round of shows that are either scrubbed from streaming platforms, or are outright cancelled during production. At this point, it can be difficult to keep up with a project that's actually going to get released. Thankfully, it appears that an upcoming DC animated series for Cartoon Network has avoided the chopping block, at least for now.
First announced in 2021, series creator Jake Wyatt's "My Adventures with Superman" will see "The Boys" star Jack Quaid voicing the titular superhero, while Alice Lee will play Daily Planet reporter Lois Lane. "Superman Returns" might not be considered the best Superman movie, but in hindsight it really wasn't bad. Its reverence for Richard Donner's 1978 "Superman" film gave it some real charm, which, after two decades of the gritty reboot trend, seems like a much more welcome prospect now than perhaps it did back in 2006. But while it made a decent 391 million, it wasn't enough for Warner Bros. to push ahead with any sequels.
Director Bryan Singer did admit years later that his movie was perhaps overly "nostalgic and romantic." These days Singer's reputation has been pretty much decimated after some truly horrific allegations of sexual assault came to light, but back in the early-aughts he was riding high, having scored hits with "X-Men" and "X2: X-Men United." And when he wasn't churning out popular superhero blockbusters, he was also helping out with the acclaimed TV series "House," on which he served...

Michael Cudlitz will soon fill the shoes of one of the most infamous villains in comic history — Lex Luthor — when he joins the cast of The CW’s Superman & Lois. The former Walking Dead and Southland star will join the cast for Season 3 to play the DC Comics supervillain, Entertainment Weekly reports. The official character description provides insight into this new version of Lex: “Lex Luthor is known to the world as the visionary billionaire behind LexCorp, but secretly, the criminal underworld knows who Lex truly is: a brutal psychopath who terrorizes anyone he crosses paths with. When Lex debuts this season, it’s been years since he dropped out of the public eye and he’s re-emerging hellbent on correcting a personal injustice by enacting revenge on the two people he feels have wronged him — Superman (played by Tyler Hoechlin) and Lois Lane (Elizabeth Tulloch).” Picking up shortly after Season 2 left off,...

The Walking Dead‘s Michael Cudlitz is going from the wastelands of a zombie apocalypse to the highrises of Metropolis when he joins the cast of Superman & Lois for the show’s third season. Superman & Lois is adding a Walking Dead favorite to the cast for Season 3.
Entertainment Weekly revealed Tuesday that Michael Cudlitz was joining the cast of the CW superhero drama series.
But who will he play?
Lex Luthor.
Yes, The CW seems intent on having Lex Luthor in most of their ongoing series, so the villain might pop up on Riverdale next.
We kid, mostly.

The Superman origin story "Smallville" aired for ten seasons, first on The WB and later on The CW. The show was created by Alfred Gough and Miles Millar, who also came up with the wildly popular Netflix series "Wednesday." "Smallville" ran from 2001 through 2011 for over 200 episodes (though Gough and Millar left after season 7), chronicling Kal-El/Clark Kent's high school years and romance with Lana Lang (Kristin Kreuk) and friendship-turned-antagonistic relationship with Lex Luthor (Michael Rosenbaum), his work at the Daily Planet with Lois Lane (Erica Durance), and finally, his transformation into Superman. Until the very last moment, we never saw Clark in his cape, but the show made a whole new generation fall in love with the character, the Superman mythology, and DC comics.
It's hard to believe it's been over two decades since "Smallville" began airing. Gough and Millar spoke to The Hollywood Reporter in December 2022 about their new...

Comics have some incredibly iconic couples: Spider-Man and Mary Jane, Nightwing and Batgirl, Reed Richards and Sue Storm, Superman and Lana Lang ... wait a minute, that last one isn't right. Even those only tangentially familiar with Superman know that Lois Lane is his one and only. That wasn't, however, the case for Clark Kent, who fell for Lana long before meeting his future wife. So, when creators Alfred Gough and Miles Millar went about telling the story of Clark's (Tom Welling) younger days in "Smallville," it was Lana and not Lois who initially stole his heart. This is not to say the writers were bound by Superman's already dense mythology, because the duo added some pretty exciting new developments to the mix, most notably making Clark's burgeoning friendship with young Lex Luthor (a brilliant Michael Rosenbaum) serve as a core element of the series.

Casting rumors for James Gunn’s new Superman movie are running rampant across social media, but the writer-director and new DC Studios boss says none of it is true considering he’s stilling penning the screenplay. Gunn took to Twitter to debunk one user’s claim that “Euphoria” actor Jacob Elordi was rumored to be the new Superman in the DC Universe.
“My thoughts are no one has been cast as Superman yet,” Gunn responded. “Casting, as is almost always the case with me, will happen after the script is finished or close to finished, and it isn’t. We’ll announce a few things in not too long, but the casting of Superman won’t be one of them.”

Tom Welling's return as Clark Kent during a cameo in The CW's "Crisis on Infinite Earths," aka the sixth Arrowverse crossover event, was a sight for sore eyes. The actor reprised his role as the superhero eight years after the finale of "Smallville," a prequel series from The WB that focused on the blue boy's formative years ... before he took on his identity as Superman. Welling was incredible as Clark Kent; his interpretation of a young boy coming to terms with his superpower has been cited as one of the best Superman portrayals on television.
As a young boy growing up in Smallville, Clark was forced to find a way to lead a normal life while concealing his abilities from his friends and navigating the presence of Kryptonite in his hometown. The series never wavered from the idea that Welling's Clark Kent always wanted to be a regular guy ... but when destiny calls,...

Henry Cavill is no longer Superman. Despite Cavill confirming his departure from the role almost a month ago via his Instagram, it feels important to get that news out of the way before we get into the reminiscing, and there's plenty to reminisce about! Zack Snyder's DC filmography might rouse divisive opinions to the surface but Cavill's casting meant that a true fan was going to don the cape and crest. Shield? Symbol? The "Big S" thing. It's one of those words.
Cavill has made a name for himself as an actor dedicated to respecting the source material. That particular trait might have come more to light during his stint with Netflix's "The Witcher" but he clearly carried that same fandom fervor during his tenure with DC. Sure, he didn't have the social power to stop Snyder from axing Superman's bright red undies of justice, but it was...

"Superman: The Movie" had the star power of Gene Hackman and Marlon Brando front and center, but once audiences saw that a man could fly, they fell in love with the fresh faces of newcomers like Christopher Reeve. He was (and still is) the perfect embodiment of the Man of Steel. Few have been able to capture the kind spirit that Reeves brought to the BAFTA Award-winning role. For as great as he was, however, it would be difficult to imagine this movie without the scene partner of a lifetime in Margot Kidder as Lois Lane.
Kidder had already been around the block prior to "Superman," having made waves in Brian De Palma's "Sisters" and Bob Clark's "Black Christmas." Actors like Anne Archer ("Fatal Attraction"), Lesley Ann Warren ("Clue"), and Stockard Channing ("Grease") all went in for screen tests, but Kidder's proved to be the best. It was clear,...

Henry Cavill is officially Superman no more, but that doesn’t mean he’s going back to Netflix’s “The Witcher.” Variety has confirmed that “The Witcher” Season 4 is moving forward unchanged, meaning Liam Hemsworth will star as Geralt of Rivia. Cavill played the part for three seasons, but he confirmed his exit from the series in October shortly after announcing his return as Superman in Warner Bros.’ DC Universe. With Cavill’s Superman run officially over, fans were left wondering if he’d return to “The Witcher.” That won’t be the case.
Cavill returned as Superman in the credits scene of “Black Adam.” While Warner Bros. was courting writers for a new Cavill-led Superman movie to be produced by Charles Roven, the plan got upended when James Gunn and Peter Safran took over DC Studios in November. The first two roles I knew Henry Cavill for couldn't have been more different from one another. In Matthew Vaughn's 2007 fantasy film "Stardust," he plays Humphrey, an uppity romantic rival for Charlie Cox's heroic Tristan with a marvelously unconvincing mop of blonde hair and a dweeby pencil mustache. That same year, Cavill co-starred in Showtime's TV series "The Tudors" as the young King Henry VIII's (Jonathan Rhys Meyers) best friend Charles Brandon, 1st Duke of Suffolk, a dashing fellow who has little trouble sweeping Henry's widowed sister off her feet.
That Cavill handled both roles with equal aplomb should have been my first clue to expect big things from him, well before he was cast as Superman in 2011. His tenure as the Man of Steel would not be an easy one, however, beset by behind-the-scenes issues and Zack Snyder's polarizing creative vision for DC's finest characters. Cavill,...

“Superman & Lois,” whose second season arrives on HBO Max today, isn’t your typical Superman story. For one thing, it gives the Man of Steel and his Pulitzer-winning wife a pair of teenage sons. For another, it has a distinctly modern — see also: post-recession — approach to Superman’s hometown, which it achieves through its expert interplay between production design and photography. If you aren’t watching the show, you might be missing out on a timely depiction of Superman’s home, one that demands to be seen not only on its own terms, but as a thoughtful update to the version that exists within the cinematic memory.

A new Superman number one issue? Oh, go on then. One with a connection to the fabled Crisis on Infinite Earths? Definitely go on then. Mark Russell writing and Mike Allred drawing? You had me at Superman. This book genuinely intrigued me when I saw it announced. Nice to have something a little different, a little risky. Superman can be many things, the focus of many different kinds of stories, and this book promises to embrace that principle.
Let’s take a look.
1985, a momentous year in DC history. The year of the Crisis. Superman, a pre-Crisis Superman (The pre-Crisis Superman?) returns to Lois and Jonathan as the world dies.
