The iconic Steven Spielberg has been focusing more on human dramas as of late, except for the occasional special effects-laden vehicles like Ready Player One and The Bfg — even sitting out Indiana Jones for the first time with the last entry, Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny. However, Deadline has now revealed that Universal Pictures has reserved a release date for May 15, 2026, for what is being described as an “original event film” that has been created by and will be directed by Spielberg.
It is not revealed what the event film is. However, it was reported last month that Spielberg would reunite with frequent collaborator David Koepp for an original UFO movie that has been kept very secretive. The UFO movie is said to be based on Steven Spielberg’s own original idea and that David Koepp is writing the screenplay. Unfortunately, that would be all the information given at this point.

Steven Spielberg is one maverick director among his contemporaries who has mastered every genre in the cinema handbook. The director has made intense thrillers, sci-fi dramas, historical/war epics, and comedies. Spielberg can do no wrong and as an ardent lover of cinema, he has no plans of slowing down.
Henry Thomas in Steven Spielberg’s E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial
His sci-fi flicks such as Close Encounters of the Third Kind, E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial, and A.I. Artificial Intelligence have been celebrated as some of the best entries in the genre. According to new reports, he is heading back to that genre yet again with his new film, and the recently released Dune: Part Two may have had a hand in Spielberg developing that itch.

It’s been a while since Steven Spielberg has dabbled in the world of extra-terrestrials, but according to a report from Variety, the acclaimed director is working on a UFO movie which will likely be his next project.
Sources told Variety that the UFO movie is based on Steven Spielberg’s own original idea and that David Koepp is writing the screenplay. Unfortunately, that’s all the information we have at this point, but a UFO movie from the man who gave us Close Encounters of the Third Kind and E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial is hard to ignore. Koepp has penned a handful of Spielberg movies, including Jurassic Park, The Lost World: Jurassic Park, War of the Worlds, and Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.

Cillian Murphy is most definitely one of the top actors in all of Hollywood right now, for a wide variety of reasons. After all, Murphy has acted in quite a few distinct roles that set him apart from the rest.
Oppenheimer
Fans continue to be drawn by Cillian Murphy’s eyes and facial expressions, or lack thereof during key scenes in films, which further elevate him in any movie or series. He is always dedicated to his craft, which was apparent in his role in Oppenheimer. However, it appears Bradley Cooper underwent a rigorous training schedule to prepare for his role in Maestro, which was even more astounding than what Cillian Murphy did.
Cillian Murphy Went Above And Beyond For His Role In Oppenheimer Cillian Murphy in another scene from Oppenheimer
Cillian Murphy faced the challenge of readying himself for the role of physicist J. Robert Oppenheimer in just six months.

Look, we’re not just tooting our own horn here when we say that Peso Pluma’s headlining set at the second night of Rolling Stone’s Future of Music showcase at the Moody Theater was the buzziest show in town on Wednesday. Fans started queueing up hours before the música mexicana megastar took the stage — one dedicated kid was there at 4 a.m., no typo — and all day, people were talking about the spectacle to come. But this is SXSW, and there’s never just one show worth seeing.

1994’s Miracle on 34th Street is filled with magical moments. But some were more enjoyable to film than others for actor Mara Wilson. The former child star, who played young Susan Walker, counted scenes with certain cast members as her favorite. Spoiler: Not Sir Richard Attenborough’s Kriss Kringle. Plus, some behind-the-scenes details about the film.
Wilson loved filming any ‘Miracle on 34th Street’ scenes with Elizabeth Perkins and Dylan McDermott
Wilson, who no longer acts, counted her favorite scenes to film in the ‘90s remake of the classic Christmas movie as the ones with two of her cast members. Not Attenborough, or even the reindeer in the courtroom, made the cut. Rather, her movie mom and dad.
“On set, anything that I got to do with Dylan McDermott and Elizabeth Perkins [was my favorite]; they were just lovely,” she told Entertainment Weekly. “In particular, the dinner table scene during Thanksgiving was really fun.

It was announced last year that Steven Spielberg was developing a new movie based on Bullitt, the classic action thriller movie starring Steve McQueen, and the remake has received a promising update.
Kristie Macosko Krieger, one of Steven Spielberg’s producing partners, spoke to GamesRadar+ about the upcoming Bullitt remake. “I’m producing it. Steven [Spielberg] and Josh Singer, who is writing the script, they are working on the story,” Krieger said. “I hope we have a script soon as the writers’ strike put us behind a bit. But they are working on it – I couldn’t tell you if it’s the next movie we are making as I don’t know at this point. I think that it will be a wildly entertaining film.“

Steven Spielberg is still planning a remake of Bullitt, and the screenplay is underway. More on the story here:
Like us, you’re probably very intrigued by the thought of Steven Spielberg moving back into action thriller territory, which is where Bullitt, the proposed reimagining of Steve McQueen’s 1968 cop thriller, seems to be heading.
The legendary director hasn’t really tackled anything of this ilk since that wonderful period in the naughts when he released Catch Me If You Can, War Of The Worlds and Minority Report.
We’ve heard that the project isn’t a straight-up remake, so at this early stage we’re not quite sure what to expect, though it seems logical that Spielberg and his collaborators will be returning to the source novel Bullitt drew from – Robert L Fish’s Mute Witness. We do know that Bradley Cooper has signed on to play the title role though,...

[Editor’s Note: The following review contains spoilers for “Archer: Into the Cold,” the “Archer” finale.]
Much like “Wonka” held back its ace in the hole for a majority of the movie, “Archer: Into the Cold” — the long-awaited series finale of Adam Reed’s long-running satiric espionage sitcom — saves one of its best-ever creations for last.
Actually, I’m a little mad about it. How dare we get only a precious few minutes with Tiny Barry™, the ideal form of so many forms taken by Archer’s one-time rival agent, turned villainous cyborg, turned computerized consciousness who was living inside the office refrigerator to start the series finale? How dare he not get a full season to stretch out those tiny little legs, with a special episode told from Tiny Barry’s doll-sized point of view? How dare Krieger (Lucky Yates) keep a “sentient robot in defiance of god” under wraps all these years, when it’s this teensy and this adorable and has...

Plot: With the Un voting to outlaw independent spy agencies, Archer and the gang have to work outside the law to save the world from an unlikely duo in this epic series finale event.
Review: Back in October, the eighth and final episode of Archer’s fourteenth season debuted, seemingly bringing the animated series to a close. But, at the end of the episode, it was revealed that a three-part series finale subtitled Into The Cold would premiere in December. As a movie-length closer to the long-running espionage comedy, Archer: Into the Cold is a fitting wrap-up to the adventures of the private spy agency known for mucking up international affairs for over a decade. With the return of some characters from prior years and delivering a goodbye for the main ensemble, Archer: Into The Cold is a far more satisfying end to the series than we got just a couple of months ago.

Hollywood moviemaking has always been a numbers game, and right now the winning number appears to be two.
Zack Snyder is locking picture on part one of December’s Rebel Moon, his two-part space opera for Netflix. Christopher McQuarrie, the filmmaker behind Paramount and Skydance’s Mission: Impossible — Dead Reckoning, Part One, retreated to a house in the northeast in recent months to edit what he’s shot so far of his follow-up. And once the SAG-AFTRA strike ends, Wicked filmmaker Jon M. Chu has just a few days left of principal photography on the first of his two Broadway adaptations. Then there’s Dune: Part Two (delayed by the strike until March), a sequel to Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (no release date in sight) and Kevin Costner’s two-part western Horizon, hitting theaters six weeks apart next summer.
These two-parters can serve both art and commerce, say those who work on them.

A long-gestating medical drama that’s inspired by the late neurologist Oliver Sacks has been handed a series order at NBC.
NBC has given a series order to Dr. Wolf, which follows revolutionary, larger-than-life neurologist Oliver Wolf (Zachary Quinto) and his team of interns as they explore the last great frontier — the human mind — while also grappling with their own relationships and mental health.
The project from writer/EP Michael Grassi and director/EP Lee Toland Krieger was the last 2023 pilot awaiting word of its fate from NBC.
The drama is inspired by the books “The Man Who Mistook His Wife for a Hat” and “An Anthropologist on Mars,” by Sacks, who died in 2015 at 82. Dubbed by The New York Times a “poet laureate of contemporary medicine,” Sacks dove into dedicated his life to studying the strangest and most mind-boggling brain disorders in the world as a window into human consciousness,...

NBC has given the greenlight on a series order for a new medical drama from Greg Berlanti.
“Dr. Wolf,” which was inspired by neurologist Oliver Sacks’ books “The Man Who Mistook His Wife for a Hat” and “An Anthropologist on Mars,” stars Zachary Quinto as “revolutionary, larger-than-life neurologist Oliver Wolf and his team of interns as they explore the last great frontier — the human mind — while also grappling with their own relationships and mental health,” according to the official logline.
The series order comes months after a pilot for “Dr. Wolf” was ordered in January. The cast is rounded out by Tamberla Perry, Ashleigh Lathrop, Alexander MacNicoll, Aury Krebs, Spence Moore II and Teddy Sears.
Berlanti’s Berlanti Productions produces the series for NBC, alongside Fabel Entertainment and the Imaginarium in association with Warner Bros. Television and Universal Television, a division of Universal Studio Group.

I first heard about FX’s “Archer” in the ready room of Vaq-135, a navy squadron who were serving an interminable deployment aboard an aircraft carrier somewhere near Midway Island. (This sounds very much like a humblebrag that Sterling Archer would obnoxiously drop into conversation). It was 2010, and the pilots had lost whatever idealism they’d once had during an endless deployment that had them flying 12-hour missions from the Persian Gulf to Afghanistan. I started hearing the officers stage-whisper “danger zone” whenever one of them got called in to see the commanding officer over some minor fuck-up or summoned to the flight deck in the pitch black of an ocean night.
Now, famously, “Danger Zone” is a Kenny Loggins song that plays a significant role in the homoerotic original recipe “Top Gun,” the urtext of naval aviators. But the way the pilots were saying it suggested they were taking the piss.

Jon Benjamin’s pitch-perfect vocal performance, Archer skewered everything from James Bond to Mad Men and more over its decade and a half on the air. Adam Reed’s series has been consistently hilarious, with multiple forays into genres like noir, science fiction, and an homage to Miami Vice. Now, the final season of Archer is here, and it is thankfully just as great as the thirteen that came before it. Rather than spending time rehashing and reflecting on jokes and plots from prior years,...

There's no more indelible image from the first "Mission: Impossible" movie than that of Tom Cruise suspended from a cable just inches above an all-white floor. Yet that image almost didn't make it into the 1996 film as is.
The image comes from the scene where Cruise's protagonist, Ethan Hunt, breaks into the mainframe of the Imf (Impossible Missions Force) in CIA headquarters. Disavowed Imf agent Franz Krieger (Jean Reno) lowers Hunt head-first into the vault to pull off "the Mount Everest of hacks" at a standalone terminal that is not connected to any other computers. All is going well until a rat in the air duct causes Krieger to lose his grip on the cable and almost drop Hunt onto the floor.
As Hunt explains beforehand in the obligatory heist scene setup, the vault is sound-sensitive, its floor is pressure-sensitive, and it "detects any increase in temperature," even body heat,...

A legacy character is returning to the “Mission: Impossible” franchise and it’s probably not who you’d expect.
On social media, writer/director Christopher McQuarrie just announced that Rolf Saxon, the actor who played unlucky CIA agent William Donloe in Brian De Palma’s 1996 masterpiece “Mission: Impossible” will be returning for the eighth film, “Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning, Part Two” (due out in the summer of 2024).
If, for some reason, you don’t have an encyclopedic knowledge of the franchise, in the first movie Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) and his team, then comprised of Luther (Ving Rhames), Krieger (Jean Reno) and Claire (Emmanuele Béart), stage an audacious break-in at the CIA headquarters in Langley, Virginia. This involves sneaking into the “black vault,” an ultra-secure CIA database overseen by William Donloe, an analyst at the agency. Having spent the past quarter century working for Steven Spielberg, Kristie Macosko Krieger has often visited The Milky Way, the Los Angeles restaurant once run by the director’s mother, Leah Adler (who died in 2017), and her second husband, Bernie Adler. Krieger also knew Spielberg’s late father, Arnold, and knew that Bernie and Arnold had once been close friends, but had no idea that a young Steven Spielberg had discovered the blooming relationship between his mother and the family friend when making home movies as part of his obsession with amateur filmmaking. This very personal story would come to light when making the semi-autobiographical The Fabelmans, which Krieger produced alongside Spielberg and Tony Kushner, who co-wrote the script with the director.
Krieger began her tenure with Spielberg as his assistant before rising through the ranks (associate producer, co-producer) to become his full-fledged, go-to producer when Kathleen Kennedy left for Lucasfilm.

Steven Spielberg thought he was done processing before shooting The Fabelmans, a movie loosely based on his youth as an amateur filmmaker and his parents’ complicated relationship. He’d done that during the script phase when working with writer Tony Kushner. Kristie Macosko Krieger, Spielberg’s longtime producing partner, still made sure to surround the filmmaker with his most trusted collaborators. Her instincts were right.
“He’d say, ‘I got it, I got it.’ But on set he broke down quite a bit. He was having memories flooding back from his childhood,” Krieger said at the Producers Guild of America’s annual Nominees Breakfast in Los Angeles on Saturday (an unexpected twist this year was a historic winter storm battering Southern California). “He was entrusting his life with us.”

The Fabelmans producer Kristie Macosko Krieger was on a panel with her fellow Zanuck Awards nominees at the Producers Guild Awards nominee breakfast on Saturday. Krieger revealed that director Steven Spielberg was visibly emotional making his autobiographical film.
“On set, he broke down quite a bit,” Krieger said. “Sometimes it was joy. Sometimes it was sadness. Sometimes it was being able to have his parents back for a little bit of time.”
Spielberg cowrote the script with Tony Kushner. The Fabelman family moves to Arizona, where young Sammy Fabelman (Gabiel Labelle) develops his interest in filmmaking.
As Sammy grows up, he becomes more observant about the conflict between his parents and their eventual divorce. Krieger said she was aware of the importance of creating a protective environment for Spielberg.

Every year, I get a kick out of interviewing the Oscar-nominated screenwriters at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival. This year’s panel was intimidating: In addition to their awards-season laurels, they included a Nobel Prize winner (Kazuo Ishiguro), a Pulitzer Prize winner (Tony Kushner) and a professional triathlete (Lesley Paterson). It was also a lot of fun.
Here’s a few highlights of what I gleaned from these brilliant writers.
1. Todd Field relies on his visions.
He first imagined Lydia Tar 10 years ago, but it wasn’t until the pandemic that he realized that she was the conductor of a major European orchestra. “She was sitting on top of a power structure,” he said. “She could’ve been sitting atop anything. She kept bothering me, and she wouldn’t go away.”
Field tries to avoid writing for a specific actor, but Blanchett kept appearing to him after they met on another possible project.

Exclusive: Following a competitive bidding war, Warner Bros TV has landed the Mac Smullen spec pilot Souvenir, Alaska. Carly Wray will exec produce and oversee development, while Lee Toland Krieger will exec produce and direct the pilot. Wbtv, where both have overall deals, had no comment on the project.
Sources say four other networks were chasing the pilot before Wbtv put in the winning bid. While plot details are being kept under wraps, sources close to the pilot describe it as a cross between a Stephen King and Michael Crichton story.
Wray has become one of the more seasoned producers in television working on such shows as Westworld, The Leftovers and Watchmen, for which she won an Emmy. She is repped by WME and Grandview.
Krieger’s past credits include You, Shadow and Bone and Superman & Louis. He is repped by WME and Anonymous Content.

NBC is moving forward with a pilot order for the one-hour drama “Wolf,” hailing from “Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin” executive producer Michael Grassi and Berlanti Productions. The project, from Warner Bros. Television, is inspired by the life and works of British neurologist Oliver Sacks.
Specifically, the series draws from Sacks’ books “The Man Who Mistook His Wife for a Hat” (1985) and “An Anthropologist on Mars” (1995). The logline is as follows: “Inspired by Oliver Sacks’ extraordinary life and work, ‘Wolf’ follows a revolutionary, larger-than-life neurologist and his team of interns as they explore the last great frontier, the human mind, while also grappling with their own relationships and mental health.”

Adam Reed's animated sitcom, "Archer," has undergone massive tonal shifts and genre changes over the course of its 13-season run. Reed initially conceived "Archer" as a genre parody of spy thrillers that featured overt satire and quick-witted humor. The first few seasons of the show were glorious, following the shenanigans of Sterling Archer (voiced by H. Jon Benjamin) and his dysfunctional, mostly incompetent colleagues who are part of an intelligence agency. Season 10 was almost the end of "Archer" when the show creators changed its structural formula — while some of it worked, and most of it missed the mark, a shift to self-contained anthologies marked an interesting turn for the animated dramedy.
"Archer" revolves around the titular protagonist, who is supposed to parody a stereotypical James Bond-like figure: Sterling is exceptionally self-centered, a raging alcoholic, emotionally unavailable, and not very good at his job. Benjamin makes brilliant work of highlighting...

Neil Gaiman is on a roll these days, with his characters appearing in "Doom Patrol" on HBO Max and the Netflix adaptation of "The Sandman" both garnering audience and critical acclaim. News regarding the upcoming "Doom Patrol" spin-off "Dead Boy Detectives" just keeps on rolling, and it's high time that we finally put on our research caps to wrangle as much information as possible regarding the new series based on the comics of the same name from DC, as well as "The Sandman" universe.
Created by Gaiman and Matt Wagner, the titular Dead Boy Detectives first appeared in live-action during season 3 of "Doom Patrol," but now these supernatural sleuths are ready to take the reigns on their own story. The “Dead Boy Detectives” show at HBO Max has added Caitlin Reilly and Max Jenkins to its cast in recurring roles, Variety has learned exclusively.
The eight-episode series was ordered at HBO Max back in April. It is based on the DC comics of the same name as well as “The Sandman,” from characters created by Neil Gaiman and Matt Wagner.
The official series description states, “It’s a fresh take on a ghost story that explores loss, grief, and death through the lens of Edwin Payne (George Rexstrew) and Charles Rowland (Jayden Revri), two dead British teenagers, and their very alive friend, Crystal Palace (Kassius Nelson). So, it’s a lot like a vintage detective series — only darker and on acid.”

Vince Gilligan’s sole script on the 2005 ‘Night Stalker’ reboot is the perfect stepping stone between the writer’s two television universes.
“There are countless stories in the city, about the lives lived here, about how the fates of others intertwine with our own in ways we can never expect or predict.”
The X-Files was one of the most significant cultural touchstones to come out of the 1990s and it forever changed the shape of genre storytelling on television. Breaking Bad and its prequel spin-off series, Better Call Saul, have very much done the same for television in the 2010s and ‘20s, albeit in very different ways. Vince Gilligan is the common factor between these completely unique worlds, but he also wrote a single episode of 2005’s reboot of the totemic supernatural procedural series, Kolchak: The Night Stalker.

“Superman & Lois,” whose second season arrives on HBO Max today, isn’t your typical Superman story. For one thing, it gives the Man of Steel and his Pulitzer-winning wife a pair of teenage sons. For another, it has a distinctly modern — see also: post-recession — approach to Superman’s hometown, which it achieves through its expert interplay between production design and photography. Why hello, you.
Penn Badgley spilled on all those self-love scenes in hit Netflix series “You” during a recent episode of his podcast, “Podcrushed.” Badgley, who plays Joe Goldberg, a serial killer stalker with a heart of gold (kind of), detailed the notes he would get from director Lee Toland Krieger between takes. And without an intimacy coordinator for the masturbation scenes, Badgley had to figure out the best way to wank off.
“Every time I’ve done a masturbation scene…I’ve always gotten the note to make it less creepy,” Badgley explained. “They say like, ‘Close your eyes or go faster or go slower.’ I’m like, ‘What? This man is fucking murdering people, and he’s masturbating in the street. You’re saying I’m making it creepy? How is it I’m the one making it creepy?'”
The “Gossip Girl” alum continued, “I just remember...

She is also known for developing the Netflix series “Sweet Tooth,” on which she was the co-showrunner for the show’s first season.
She is repped by UTA and Felker Toczek.
