Marie Schmidt Olesen

Producer Marie Schmidt Olsen is an experienced creative producer and consultant who works between Denmark and Scotland. As an editor at the Danish Film Institute's talent development scheme, New Danish Screen (2012-17), she supported several fiction, documentary and multimedia projects. Prior to this, Marie lived in Glasgow where she co-founded Diversity Films CIC (2006-12), and produced drama, news and documentaries at co-owned production company Autonomi Ltd (2002-). Titles include Come Closer and Golden Bear-winning short Milk (Peter Mackie Burns), Good Cop, Bedroom Radio, as well as the BAFTA-nominated films Wasted Nation and Kurdi (Doug Aubrey) and as IDFA First Appearance-nominated Some Distant Day (Vincent Hunter).
Marie has a MPhil in media culture from Strathclyde University, is an EAVE alumni, and works from her own company Northern Souls Aps. Since 2019, she has produced titles incl. Legacy of an Invisible Bullet (Doug Aubrey, 2023), Thanks For Your Service (Carina Randløv, 2023), The Escape/Janniks vej (Camilla Arlien, in prod). As a freelancer, associate and co-producer, she has produced Balomania (Sissel Morell Dargis, House of Real), Os der lever (Anne Svejgaard Lund), The Journey and the Doors (Peter Alsted).
