Michael Selwyn(II)

With 37 years experience in international theatrical distribution across Europe, Latin America, Asia and, more recently, Australiasia, Michael Selwyn brings a wealth of knowledge in both studio releases and independent films. A UK Chartered Accountant, Michael joined Cinema International Corporation (CIC) in 1979 at the head office in Amsterdam and then in London. CIC released films from Paramount, MGM and Universal and eventually from United Artists to become United International Pictures (UIP). Michael moved from European Sales Executive to become MD of UIP Belgium in 1986, initially handling the release of Out Of Africa, and Top Gun. In 1993 Michael was promoted to MD of UIP Australia, again starting with milestone films in The Firm, Jurassic Park and Schindler's List.
Michael oversaw releases from the four studios, their associated production companies including Working Title (Love Actually, Bridget Jones and The Holiday) plus many independent European and Australian films. 1997 saw Dreamworks SKG join the roster followed by Dreamworks Animation and the release of the Shrek series, Madagascar and How To Train Your Dragon.
When UIP separated in 2006, Michael became MD of Paramount and then Vice President, Australia/NZ for Paramount Pictures. He initiated a joint venture with Transmission Films, which saw Paramount release local and international independent titles including the Oscar-winning The King's Speech, and acquired a number of Australian titles including the teen action hit, Tomorrow When The War Began.
Since leaving Paramount, Michael has worked on independent film projects, consulting on film distribution and marketing. He is a board member of the Gold Coast Film Festival and a past president of the Australian Cinema Pioneers. Michael has a B.SC from Imperial College, London.
