Will NCIS: Sydney become a permanent fixture on CBS?
In 2023, the NCIS franchise’s first international spinoff premiered on CBS. The eight-episode series sees U.S. NCIS agents teaming up with Australian police to investigate naval crimes in the Pacific. It was originally intended to stream on Paramount+ in the U.S., but it earned a spot on the network’s fall schedule due to the actors’ and writers’ strikes.
NCIS: Sydney closed out its first season on Jan. 23. The cliffhanger episode suggested Colonel Rankin (Lewis Fitz-Gerald) might have played a role in kidnapping Sergeant Jd Dempsey’s (Todd Lasance) son. Will fans get to see how that storyline plays out? So far, NCIS: Sydney hasn’t been renewed for season 2. But it does sound like the odds of the show returning are good.

We're very sorry to report today that actor Carl Weathers has died at the age of 76. Weathers was most known for his movie career, playing Apollo Creed in the "Rocky" series and Dillon in "Predator".
But Weathers worked in television as well — and I don't mean just his recent run on "The Mandalorian." One of his most memorable appearances came in "The Shield" season 2 episode "Partners." The cop drama follows the Strike Team, an anti-gang unit in Los Angeles led by Vic Mackey (Michael Chiklis), with the narrative twist the team is just as dirty and murderous as the criminals they investigate. "The Shield" has plenty of memorable guest stars, from Melanie Lynskey as a killer of the week in season 2, to Forest Whitaker as the antagonist (not the villain) of season 5.

With Part 1 of its freshman finale, NCIS: Sydney uncorked quite the callback, by revealing that the “pregnant” woman who nearly got Mackey, Evie, Blue and dozens of others suffocated to death in an old bunker was in fact the blonde spy who eluded capture at the end of the series’ pilot.
Yet while it might seem as if Special Agent Mackey (Olivia Swann), Sergeant Jim “Jd” Dempsey (Todd Lasance) et al now have the upper hand, the abduction of Jd’s son Jack, in Part 2 of the finale (airing Tuesday at 8/7c on CBS), will thoroughly and harrowingly complicate matters.

The finale of NCIS: Sydney Season 1 needed a bit more personal drama to heighten the stakes, and the makers had exactly the right idea of what to go within the eighth episode. In the previous episode, the team had done so to survive and had even caught the criminal who had eluded their grasp—a woman named Monica/Xena. They were fake names, and the real identity of the terrorist was still unknown. All of Jim, Mackey, and the others in the NCIS and Afp alliance knew that the woman was working with a terrorist crew that had almost created a war-like situation between Australia and America. Before Jim and Mackey could find out who she was working for, they had another problem: Jim’s son Jack had been kidnapped by someone who wanted him to release Monica if he wanted to save Jack.

In the fifth episode of the series NCIS Sydney, we get a scenario where the NCIS get ‘indirectly’ involved in a case. They were stationed in Australia to help protect the assets of the US Navy, but in the latest episode, they find themselves trying to save Dr. Roy Penrose, who gets trapped in a hostage situation. No, it wasn’t a terrorist attack; the hostage-taker was a 15-year-old Louie, who controlled the show for a while with an Ied vest wrapped around her torso. Jim comes to the forefront to save Casey, as he believed from the get-go that a 15-year-old couldn’t be the mastermind of the hostage situation, and indeed he was correct. Here is a detailed recap of NCIS Sydney episode 5.

Doc Roy had himself one long day, didn't he?
The team's loveable curmudgeon couldn't even enjoy a morning coffee with his dog Buster on NCIS: Sydney Season 1 Episode 5.
Instead, they found themselves in the wrong place at the wrong time.
Yes, this situation borders on being a trope in the NCIS franchise.
One or more of the beloved specialists find themselves in peril, and their squadmates must rescue them if they don't save themselves first.
It is hard to imagine a more unlikely location for this scenario than the Ground and Hound doggie cafe, where Roy and Buster's visit before work was interrupted by a bleeding teen wearing a bomb vest.
When the Sydney cops arrived hot on her heels, Roy must have realized he wouldn't be getting to the office anytime soon.

The fourth episode of NCIS Sydney brought us an interesting case, and the writing is better this time around, not depending on snakes and sharks to twist the investigations. With a classical approach, the episode begins like an 18th-century murder mystery, but soon, the modern NCIS team arrives, and we are thrown amid the case. The episode becomes a story about love and loss, fathers and sons, duty and desertion, and so much more. The series does gain some pathos through NCIS Sydney Episode 4, as Mackey’s more human side comes out, reminiscing about her days in the military. The rest of the team works on the case in the usual manner, chipping in with their knowledge to untangle the mystery.

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for NCIS: Sydney Episode 4 “Ghosted.”] NCIS: Sydney offers a little insight into team leader Mackey (Olivia Swann) in the latest episode, with the investigation forcing her to open up about her past. While the team has someone in custody claiming he killed the victim, and Mackey is willing to believe it at first — she is very much against deserters, as Frank (Linal Haft) was after serving and receiving the Navy Cross — it soon becomes clear there’s more than it seems to the case. He couldn’t have killed the victim for the reason he claimed (blackmail) since the other man was repatriating the medals he’d found. And so, in an attempt to get Frank to talk, Mackey reveals that while she was stationed in Afghanistan, three guys wandered off base and wound up in a village on the wrong side of the border. She disobeyed a direct order and with two others,...

The long-standing military relationship between the United States and Australia is bound to have its share of secrets.
That was certainly the message of NCIS: Sydney Season 1 Episode 4.
One of those secrets -- that a decorated U.S. sailor who went Awol and melted into Sydney 50 years ago -- even became the primary suspect in the gruesome murder of a petty officer.
It could have been so easy. They captured a suspect with a motive who was willing, even eager, to confess to the crime.
Mackey truly wanted Frank Doherty to be the murderer as she had a disgust for deserters, one that she eventually explained to Doherty himself.
J.D., who is all cop, rightfully saw too many holes to take Doherty's confession at face value. Things weren't adding up for him.
Fairly early on, Mackey and especially J.D. felt that Doherty was covering for someone. Since he was hellbent on self-sacrifice,...

NCIS: Sydney is beginning to come together as far as the team is concerned.
This new unity came in helpful on a complex case involving former Navy SEALs on NCIS: Sydney Season 1 Episode 3.
So far, the series has featured three pairs: the bosses, the lieutenants, and the specialists.
Mackey and J.D. have developed mutual respect. He is willing to be her second-in-command and has found a way to get inside her significant defenses.
J.D. has also been her guide to all things Australian, especially her new staff. He's also attempting to sand off her rough edges, a full-time job.
Evie and DeShawn have a very different dynamic. She's the worldly older sister, while he's the starry-eyed younger brother.
One scene in this episode sums up their relationship. He suggested that they go undercover as an engaged couple. She scoffed, saying she was too much hotter than him for that to be believable.

It's hard to believe the NCIS franchise is over 20 years old.
While the original series is still chugging along, NCIS: Los Angeles and NCIS: New Orleans have sailed off into the sunset despite still being in great shape creatively.
Both spinoffs ended while there was still plenty of gas in the tank, but the franchise overlords are more interested in taking us to different locations nowadays.
NCIS: Hawai'i was a valiant effort at a more diverse spinoff with an island backdrop, and it has its quirks that have won it plentiful fans.
NCIS: Sydney, the latest entry, is a fast-paced chapter that makes up for the lack of initial chemistry between its ensemble with brilliant characterization and some of the best cases in years.

A new NCIS spinoff is coming to CBS. NCIS: Sydney, the first international-set entry in the NCIS franchise, follows a joint team of American NCIS agents and Australian Federal Police officers as they investigate naval crimes in one of the most contested parts of the ocean on the planet. Will the new show fill the void left by NCIS, which has had its season 21 premiere date delayed because of the Hollywood strikes? We’ll have to wait and see, but in the meantime, here’s everything you need to know about NCIS: Sydney.
What is ‘NCIS: Sydney’ about?
In NCIS: Sydney, officers from the Afp – Australia’s equivalent of the FBI – work hand-in-hand with NCIS agents as part of a multinational task force charged with keeping naval crimes in check. But working together doesn’t mean that everyone gets along, as seen in the trailer (via YouTube) when Afp sergeant...

It was an unforgettable night for one Wheel of Fortune contestant on Wednesday’s (October 18) episode who walked away with big money and a heap of fantastic prizes. Jennifer Mackey, a single mom from Bryan, Texas, powered her way through the game, winning over the hearts of host Pat Sajak and the viewing audience in the process. At the top of the episode, Mackey opened up about raising her 10-year-old son Elijah and working multiple jobs. “I don’t know what it is, but I can’t stop working,” she shared. “I stay at work all day. Some of my jobs, I take [my son] with me.” “So you have multiple jobs?” Sajak asked, to which Mackey replied, “Yes, I have four.” “Wow… there’s only 24 hours in a day, you know that?” Sajak quipped. Wheel of Fortune/YouTube According to TheEagle.com, Mackey’s four jobs include a medical billing accounts receivable specialist,...

Who knows when we’ll see the next South Park Halloween special. The classic animated series isn’t going away anytime soon but ever since Paramount found success with doling out South Park specials for the streaming world, the traditional fall release format suddenly seems up in the air. If a South Park episode release date never happens to coincide with spooky season again, that would be a shame.
The show’s Halloween episodes are easily fan favorites as creators Matt Stone and Trey Parker pay homage to the best frights in pop culture history. We’ve counted 10 true Halloween episodes over the last 25 seasons and we’re ranking them in order of the worst to the best so that we can all argue about it in the comments section.

Ncuti Gatwa is reflecting on the impact of “Sex Education” on his life, particularly how playing Eric Effiong “undid a lot of the internalized hate I had.”
“I’ve experienced racism my whole life, and while I always believed in myself, always knew [racists] were stupid and uneducated, I guess it did misinform my view of how the world works,” Gatwa said in an interview with Elle before the SAG-AFTRA strike. “It makes you think everyone has that opinion and you’ll constantly have to fight through life – then you learn that you don’t: you can find a tribe, you can find your people.”
“Sex Education” is ending after four seasons on Netflix, with the final season premiering on the streamer Sept. 21. Along with Gatwa, the British teen sex comedy series stars Asa Butterfield, Emma Mackey, Gillian Anderson, Connor Swindells, Kedar Williams-Stirling, Aimee Lou Wood and more.

Barbie dolls are mass-manufactured. It's easy to imagine a "Barbie" movie where all the denizens of Barbieland are played by lead stars Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling, respectively; clones dressed up in different outfits like the dolls themselves. That's not the movie that director Greta Gerwig made though.
It's important to remember that in the Barbie brand's decades-long existence, there have been endless permutations of the original (check out /Film's guide to Barbie history here). This allows little girls of all different appearances and backgrounds to see themselves in their favorite dolls. Thus, Barbieland is only spiritually a land of clones — the Barbies and Kens may all have similar personalities, but each one has a different actor.
Though Barbieland is incredibly diverse, one of the actresses was cast because she resembles Margot Robbie. Who was it? Emma Mackey, who played the Nobel Prize-winning Physicist Barbie. Many have argued/joked that...

Emma Margaret Marie Tachard-Mackey is a French-British actress best known for her portrayal of the intelligent and sardonic Maeve Wiley in Sex Education. Mackey always knew she wanted to chart her course in the entertainment industry from a young age. This influenced her choices as a student as she honed her skills for the spotlight. She finally made her professional debut in 2016 and already has a handful of award nominations and wins to her credit. Known for her signature big brown eyes and thick eyebrows, Emma Mackey is often mistaken for Australian actress and producer, Margot Robbie. Both actresses share...

Barbie may be everything, and Ken is just Ken, but what about the people in the Real World they meet along the way? Greta Gerwig’s Barbie, based on the popular dolls, is a hyper-stylized take on the Mattel toys that sees the titular doll journey from Barbie Land to the Real World on a quest of self-discovery.
This movie definitely looks the part, but it wouldn’t be what it is without its incredible all-star cast full of award-winning actors and familiar faces. Here’s what you need to know about the Barbie characters and the actors who play them.
Margot Robbie is Barbie
In addition to producing the movie, Margot Robbie plays a Barbie doll who has an existential crisis and is forced to go on a journey from Barbie Land to the Real World to find answers. She’s everything, but is that enough? Robbie is most...

It opens, of course, with an homage to Stanley Kubrick’s “2001: A Space Odyssey.” A dazzling sunrise stretches over a barren desert, populated exclusively with sad-eyed Dust Bowl-era girls and their unblinking baby dolls, as Helen Mirren (!!) narrates us through what life was like pre-Barbie. It wasn’t just boring (though it was certainly boring), but it was limited. For so many little girls, dolls were only ever baby dolls, which meant that their playtime could only ever revolve around motherhood, servitude, and no fun whatsoever.
But just as Kubrick’s apes eventually met by an alien monolith that utterly changed their world and worldview, Greta Gerwig’s little girls are about to be descended upon by a world-altering and brain-breaking new entity: a giant, one might even say monolithic, Barbie doll, in the form of a smiling Margot Robbie, kitted out like the very first Barbie doll ever made.

Class won’t be in session for much longer on Netflix’s Sex Education.
The series will end with Season 4, which is set for September 21, the streamer announced on Wednesday.
In a teaser for the new season, which was also released on Wednesday, Asa Butterfield’s Otis Milburn doesn’t appear to be any more eloquent with his words than he was when he began his journey as a sex therapist at Moordale Secondary.
“Thinking about sex comes very naturally, because I learned everything I know about sex from my mom,” he tells a crowd of college students, much to their horror.
Watch the full teaser above.
Back for Season 4 alongside Butterfield are Gillian Anderson, Ncuti Gatwa, Aimee-Lou Wood, Emma Mackey, Connor Swindells, Kedar Williams-Stirling, Mimi Keene, George Robinson, Chinenye Ezeudu, Dua Saleh, Alistair Petrie, Samantha Spiro, Jim Howick, Rakhee Thakrar and Daniel Ings.

Dark Star Pictures has acquired North American rights to Australian queer horror film “Bad Girl Boogey,” the second film from writer-director Alice Maio Mackay,
“Bad Girl Boogey”, per the official description, tells the story of “Angel, whose mother was brutally murdered one Halloween night, when blood was shed by a deranged killer wearing a parasitic mask cursed with black magic and bigotry. “Emily,” Frances O’Connor’s take on the inner life of one of literature’s moodiest, broodiest romantics, embraces life on the moors as a clear alternative to the bulk of 19th-century English society. Now available on VOD and starring Emma Mackey as Emily Brontë — the gangly outcast who poured her ache for what cannot be into “Wuthering Heights” — her place in the world and within her own family is subtly but craftily conveyed by her dresses.
Oscar-nominated costume designer Michael O’Connor is no stranger to the 19th century, having done everything from “The Duchess” to the 2011 “Jane Eyre.” Within the era’s fashion, he finds ways in which to make Emily stick out, her unease in her own skin peeking through what she wears.
For the model of how to get along as an intellectual woman with limited vocational options (and of firstborn sibling syndrome in overdrive), the film offers...
