Olivia Williams, the BAFTA-winning actress and recent SAG Awards nominee as an ensemble member for her performance as Camilla Parker Bowles on “The Crown,” has worked on the British stage in classic and new productions. But in a new interview, she points to a beloved American sitcom as an “alarming” and “harrowing” experience when compared to other gigs.
Williams appeared as a bridesmaid in the fourth season finale, in which Ross (David Schwimmer) married Emily (Helen Baxendale) in London. (You may recall some zany hijinks at some historic landmarks.) Speaking with The Independent, the actress recalled the “alarming” experience of sharing a car with an elderly actress Williams described as “distinguished” and “very good” who was later berated by a producer and told, “You’re not funny!” According to Williams, the unnamed performer was not on set the following day.
“‘Friends’ was a brand,” she continued, “and you had to fit the brand.

Olivia Williams has given acclaimed performances in “Rushmore,” “The Sixth Sense” and “An Education.” She recently appeared as Camilla Parker Bowles in the final two seasons of Netflix’s popular drama series “The Crown.” But for many people, the British actor will always be Felicity from the Season 4 finale of “Friends.” Williams once called guest starring on the NBC sitcom “harrowing,” and she recently opened up to The Independent about the reasons why it wasn’t the best experience in a recent interview.
“Gosh. Well, just as an example, I was taken to the studio in a shared car with a wonderful actress whose character, I think, was called ‘Old Woman’,” Williams said, noting this actor was “distinguished” and “very good” but “at one point, a producer – who shall remain nameless – just yelled at her: ‘You’re not funny!’ And she didn’t come back the next day. So that was alarming.

What Do We Know About Dune Prophecy? More than you may think. With the second part of Denis Villeneuve’s adaptation of Frank Herbert’s classic science fiction novel a critical and box office success, it is going to be several years before we see the next feature film in the series, Dune Messiah. Luckily, production on the small-screen prequel /spin-off was concurrent with Dune: Part Two which means before the end of the year we are going to return to the fictional realms of Arrakis, Geidi Prime, and more via Max.
While not much in the way of footage has made its way online, there have been quite a few reveals about Dune Prophecy, so let’s jump in and discuss.
Denis Villeneuve is not directing any episodes

Who’s ready for a Sandworm ride? The long-awaited (and delayed) sequel to Denis Villeneuve’s Dune is getting spicy in theaters, and we want to know what you think about the film! Anticipation for Dune: Part Two has been through the roof since last year, and then the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes hit Hollywood. Legendary Entertainment and Warner Bros. Film Group agreed to delay the film until 2024, knowing that a robust promotional campaign for the science-fiction epic would serve the project (and the box office) well.
The delay is paying off as Dune: Part Two already took $12 million home from preview screenings. The film debuted in 4,500 locations, with Imax screenings bringing in 38% of the pot. I’ve got tickets for an 11:30 screening at my local theater tomorrow, joining the crowds already rushing to theaters to experience one of 2024’s most anticipated features. Frank Herbert's classic sci-fi novel "Dune" is a massively complicated story -- one that's so dense with lore that it required a glossary of terms and characters when it was first published in 1965. Even attentive readers likely had to spend hours flipping back and forth between the main text of the book and the glossary just so they could understand what a Mentat was or discover the translation of "Muad'Dib."
When Denis Villeneuve adapted the first half of "Dune" to film in 2021, only those of us who had read the original novel, and perhaps also watched David Lynch's 1984 film, could likely follow the story the first time through. There are so many factions and so many characters that it might be difficult to keep them all straight. Once one gets their mind around the various factions within the "Dune" mythos, though, the characters and story begin to fall into place.

Dune was first published as serials, starting in 1963. 60 years later it sits within an uncomfortable franchise. Frank Herbert wrote five sequels before his death in 1986, an 'Encyclopedia' whose canonicity was imperfect even at the time. Easy enough to consider that a road not travelled, like Alan Dean Foster's Splinter Of The Mind's Eye, a sequel to Star Wars (1977) published in 1978. Easier still to look at the 19 novels published by Herbert's son Brian in the last 20 years, co-written with Kevin J Anderson whose bibliography is as rich with recognisable franchises as Foster's, though the proportions of novelisations to spin-offs is almost inverted.

Earlier today, the Queen’s Gambit and Furiosa actor walked the red carpet at the anticipated sequel’s world premiere in London, England, confirming suspicions about her participation. Three-week projections for Denis Villeneuve’s Dune: Part Two are in, and the highly-anticipated sequel could ride a sandworm all the way to the bank! The follow-up to Villeneuve’s 2021 epic gives theater owners and film industry workers something to feel spicy about, with conservative predictions giving the movie a $65M+ launch. Young Paul Atreides strides across the sands of Arrakis, the planet that will become the setting of his ascension. Although he has never before left his watery home planet of Caladan, the Fremen of Arakis seem to know him. “Lisan al-Gaib,” they shout at the sight of him, calling him a messiah. Although the Mentat Thufir Hawat dismisses the Fremen’s behavior as “Harkonnen’s rules,” Paul suspects the truth. His mother’s religious order, the Bene Gesserit have been seeding prophecies about him, preparing them for allegiance.
Although the above scene occurs early in Dune, it also points to a major theme across all of the Dune novels written by Frank Herbert. Paul is no mystical messiah, no god made flesh, but rather a product of social and political engineering, designed by the Bene Gesserit to create compliancy in the people.

We’re just weeks away from the March 1st theatrical release of Dune: Part Two, the second half of director Denis Villeneuve’s two-part adaptation of the Frank Herbert novel Dune… and the whole time we’ve been gearing up to see this movie, one element of it that has been getting a lot of hype is the presence of sandworms. Now an extended sneak preview has made its way online, and it features a clip from the film where our hero Paul Atreides learns to ride a sandworm! Denis Villeneuve has been clear that his vision for adapting Frank Herbert’s Dune series for the big screen involves three movies: Dune and Dune: Part Two, both adapted from Herbert’s original classic novel and a third film, Dune Messiah, based on Herbert’s 1969 sequel of the same name.
Herbert wrote four more Dune novels in his lifetime, but Villeneuve made it clear this week in an interview with Time that “Dune Messiah should be the last Dune movie for me.”
Last year, when the second film was coming together, Villeneuve told Empire, “If I succeed in making a trilogy, that would be the dream.” It seems he intends to be good to his word.
Villeneuve said that the third part would wrap up the franchise. After the first book sequel, he said, the other novels “become more… esoteric.”

Dune: Part Two, the second half of director Denis Villeneuve’s two-part adaptation of the Frank Herbert novel Dune, is now scheduled to be released on March 1st – but there are five more Herbert Dune novels that could serve as the basis for future films, and Villeneuve and his Dune stars Timothée Chalamet and Zendaya have all expressed interest in continuing the franchise. In an interview with Total Film magazine, Villeneuve said the ending of Dune: Part Two will set up the events of a third Dune film… if they get the chance to make it. He told Total Film, “All of the elements are there. But I think the movie adaptation is more tragic than the book. The way that Part Two ends… it would create a total balance and equilibrium to finish Paul’s storyline in what we could say in Part Three.“
Chalamet told Total Film, “The idea excites me very much.

We’ve got great news for Dune fans! Warner Bros says the spice will flow earlier than anticipated now that Dune: Part Two is moving up two weeks to March 1. Before the SAG-AFTRA strike ended, the highly-anticipated sequel pushed the film’s release to guarantee a massive marketing push for Denis Villeneuve’s sequel. With writers and actors returning to work, press tours include talent from the forthcoming science-fiction epic, from actors to crew members and beyond.
Dune: Part Two “will explore the mythic journey of Paul Atreides as he unites with Chani and the Fremen while on a warpath of revenge against the conspirators who destroyed his family,” says the film’s official synopsis. “Facing a choice between the love of his life and the fate of the known universe, he endeavors to prevent a terrible future only he can foresee.”

Fresh off of being delayed until 2024, Dune: Part Two is Empire Magazine‘s new cover story. The outlet will print two gorgeous Dune Part Two Empire Magazine covers for fans to collect, featuring House Atreides and Harkonnen members. Yesterday, Legendary Entertainment and Warner Bros. said they would push the release of Dune: Part Two, with the film now coming to theaters on March 15, 2024.
This change in release date has caused a knock-on effect. Godzilla X Kong: The New Empire was set to be released on March 15, 2024, but will now move to April 12, 2024. That is the date that The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim was supposed to be released, which will now be pushed to December 13, 2024. The reason for the Dune: Part Two delay is said to be because of the SAG-AFTRA strike, as the studio clearly wants its stars to be able to promote the movie.

Exclusive: Max’s Dune prequel series Dune: The Sisterhood is set to relaunch production in Budapest “any day now” and will continue throughout the course of the WGA and SAG strikes, a source close to the show tells Deadline.
The series thus takes the path of House of the Dragon and Industry, given that, like those HBO titles, which we reported on earlier in the day, The Sisterhood is an Equity contract production with some from SAG-AFTRA also in the mix. And per guidance from the actors guild stateside, members working under Equity contracts are to “continue to report.”
The Sisterhood resumes production following a November launch, leading into a hiatus that always was planned, our source tells us, to get around winter conditions in Hungary. The show also notably lost director Johan Renck, creator and pilot writer Diane Ademu-John (as co-showrunner) and stars Shirley Henderson and Indira Varma earlier this year,...

A spicy rumor about the Dune film franchise is rising from the sands of Arrakis. Industry insider Daniel Richtman said that Warner Bros had signed Timothée Chalamet for Dune 3. While this is not a confirmation of production plans for another movie in Denis Villeneuve’s presentation of Dune, it’s not the first time we’ve heard rumblings that a third film is a possibility.
Previously, Dune writer Jon Spaihts confirmed a third film could happen. “There are a few tantalizing strands that lead into the future and suggest that we might not be done in this universe, despite the fact that the ending of ‘Dune’ as a novel, which will be the ending of the second film, is a very satisfying conclusion,” Spaihts told The Playlist early last year. “There are a number of ways in which the book also sounds ominous notes, and there are hints of foreboding...

The sisterhood is growing again. Olivia Williams (The Nevers) and Jodhi May (The Witcher) have joined the cast of the TV series tentatively titled Dune: The Sisterhood, a Max spinoff of the latest Dune films. The series has had a tumultuous development so far. In November 2022, series creator and writer Diane Ademu-John (The Haunting of Bly Manor) stepped down as co-showrunner, living Alison Schapker (Westworld) as the series’ sole showrunner,...

Olivia Williams and Jodhi May have been cast in Max’s “Dune: The Sisterhood” (working title) following the exits of previously announced cast members Shirley Henderson and Indira Varma. Henderson departed the series amid “creative changes” made in February, while Varma’s departure was due to scheduling conflicts.
Additionally, Anna Foerster is now set as a director on the series, replacing Johan Renck, who departed at the same time as Henderson.
In November, series creator Diane Ademu-John stepped down as co-showrunner, but she remains involved as executive producer.
Williams will play Tula Harkonnen, while May plays Natalya. Set in the world of “Dune” 10,000 years before the ascension of Paul Atreides, the series follows the Harkonnen sisters as they combat forces that threaten the future of humankind, and establish the fabled sect known as the Bene Gesserit. Dune: Part Two, the second half of director Denis Villeneuve’s two-part adaptation of the Frank Herbert novel Dune, has a release date of November 3rd – and in this build-up to the film’s release, we’ve previously only heard that Villeneuve wrote the screenplay with Jon Spaihts, who he also collaborated with on the script for Dune: Part One. (Their Part One co-writer Eric Roth decided not to work on the follow-up.) Now, The Last of Us showrunner Craig Mazin has revealed that he was also a “participating writer” on Dune: Part Two!
Speaking with The Playlist, Mazin said that he’s basically out of the movie business, because he’s focusing on The Last of Us and his other TV work. But “I will work with certain directors when they call because I love them and because they’re so brilliant. So if, like, Denis Villeneuve calls, then absolutely.

The Warner Bros CinemaCon panel is bringing something spicy for today’s anticipated presentation. The sequel to Denis Villeneuve’s Dune debuts in theaters on November 3, 2023, but press members and attendees of this week’s show are getting a preview of Dune: Part Two before previews hit online.
During the presentation for Dune: Part Two, it was revealed the sequel was shot entirely for IMAX, making it the ultimate theater experience. At the top of the presentation, Villeneuve, Timothée Chalamet, and Zendaya took the stage. Villeneuve teased the film picks up exactly where 2021’s Dune left off. As Chalamet says, in the first movie, Paul is a student, but in this one, he becomes a leader and redeemer of the Freman. The story also digs deeply into the growing love between Paul and Chani, and Zendays says this was huge for her as, in the first film, her involvement was pretty limited.

Dune: Part Two, the second half of director Denis Villeneuve’s two-part adaptation of the Frank Herbert novel Dune, which has a release date of November 3, 2023 – and when fans have the chance to see the movie, cast member Rebecca Ferguson says they’ll be seeing a film that’s even better than its predecessor.
Ferguson gave her opinion on Dune: Part Two during an interview on Jake’s Takes, even though she hasn’t actually seen the movie herself yet. Interviewer Jake Hamilton listed Villeneuve’s first Dune as his #1 film of 2021, and asked Ferguson to tell him that the follow-up is awesome. She did just that, saying, “I’m gonna say, Part Two is better than Part One. And that’s me without seeing it, that is me saying it based on what I’ve read, what I’ve seen, what I’ve filmed. I think it’s gonna be better.

When director Denis Villeneuve contacted Oscar-nominated costume designer Jacqueline West about creating the costumes for Dune: Part One, she initially turned him down. Speaking at a masterclass for Qatar’s Doha Film Institute, West told the audience (as reported by Deadline), “I said, ‘I don’t do sci-fi. It’s not my thing.’ I said no. He hired someone else, and I guess he wasn’t happy because he called my agent a second time and said, ‘Can I just talk to her.’ Mary Parent, who produced The Revenant and was producing Dune, got me in her office and put me on FaceTime with him on a big screen. He was so compelling. He said, ‘I want you because I do not want it to look like sci-fi. I want it to be classical. I don’t want it to look like a video game.’” Her time on Dune: Part One went so well,...
