Davis, speaking with Unhcr, the Un Refugee Agency, at the end of a visit to Kutupalong Refugee camp in Bangladesh, said: “For me, the most shocking part of the Rohingya refugee crisis is the number of children who have had to flee their homes. Over half of the refugees in the camp are children. Some of them have lost one or both parents and they are on their own. These children have faced unimaginable horrors and chaotic violence and then a harrowing journey to safety. They are in need of everything including the very basics of shelter,...

Avant twang, Americana noir, garage chamber music, whatever you'd like to label composer/guitarist Stephen Ulrich's NYC-based trio Big Lazy (drummer Yuval Lion and bassist Andrew Hall), one thing is undeniable -- the vibe is unforgettable. "Avenue X" is from their fifth long player entitled Don't Cross Myrtle and it features Sexmob trumpeter Steven Bernstein. Love the "Mission Impossible" guitar lick during the middle eight. And the video is pretty fab, too. Ready for consumption today.

It's Tuesday night, time for another Hit Me With Your Best Shot. This week we're looking at Curtis Hanson's 1997 Best Picture nominee L.A. Confidential, which was nominated for 9 Oscars including Best Picture and Best Cinematography (Dante Spinotti) both of which it lost to the 52,000 ton Titanic. But it's a lot of people's idea of a modern masterpiece so I was fascinated to read what others had to say about the movie.
See it through multiple sets of eyeballs, in this case 16 of them by clicking on any of the twelve shots selected ... and please do comment if you like something you read. The series only works properly when people participate.
Best Shot(s)

I couldn’t believe my luck when I read about it, Chris Gayle had been depositing to all parts, and I had missed it, Again! Now we all know that Gayle is no stranger to making the crowd wonder if they should turn up wearing hardhats, but somehow, every time the Jamaican slogger decides to let loose, I inevitably am tied up with other commitments. Thankfully, I have seen the highlights of it, and as I’m sure you all know, it was special, really special. Reaching a ton off 30 balls is just a ridiculous feat, and then continuing to carry his bat to finish on 175* off 66 balls, whilst hitting 13 fours and 17 sixes, it just defies description.
Gayle’s brilliant innings was his eleventh T20 century overall, but undoubtedly his most impressive. This article aims to showcase other feats just as brilliant in the cricketing world, but it wouldn’t...

Emma Divine, one of the performers at this year’s Greenwich Comedy Festival, inside Le Moulin Rouge, an original Belgian Spiegeltent. By Andy Hall. You may scour in vain the world’s (other) great journals of record for a notice commemorating the birth, exactly 100 years ago this week, of a tent. You read it here first. This is not any old tent. Marlene Dietrich once sang in this tent. (Probably. Well, maybe. And even if she didn’t, she should’ve.) Think low lights, stained glass, and thousands of tiny trick mirrors. There are great engorged folds of velveteen above, groaning wooden floorboards below, and cozy little gas-lit booths, a well-stocked bar, and all manner of human loucheness in between. Such tents are known as Spiegeltents—Spiegel means "mirror" in Flemish, and the point of all the mirrors is to facilitate flirty eye contact with strangers. Spiegeltents, along with chocolate and Tintin,...

'He was always a man of the people, and he never forgot his roots,' Des Moines radio director tells MTV News.

Three days after Slipknot bassist Paul Gray was found dead in an Iowa hotel room, those who knew him are still struggling to make sense of everything that's happened. It's not an easy thing to do. Though he wasn't born in Iowa, Gray was still very much a local boy made good, having moved to Des Moines as a child. And as Slipknot's fame grew, he made it a point to remain loyal to the scene — and the city — that gave him his start in music.
"It's just been a feeling of complete and utter disbelief, and I think a lot of people are still shell-shocked," Andy Hall, music director at Des Moines' Lazer 103.3, told MTV News on Wednesday (May...
