Sharjah, Jan 28 (Ians) Australian all-rounder Marcus Stoinis has joined the Sharjah Warriors squad at a crucial juncture of their campaign in the inaugural International League Twenty20, which is being played in the UAE until February 12.
White-ball specialist Stoinis’ arrival fills a huge gap in the Warriors squad with the departures of star England trio — Moeen Ali, also the captain of Sharjah Warriors, Dawid Malan and Chris Woakes — on national duty to South Africa for three one-day internationals.
Sharjah Warriors fans will be banking on the ‘tough Australian spirit’ in Stoinis just as the team is beginning to stage a tremendous comeback in the six-team league with two back-to-back wins before a potential third at home on Thursday.

Manjeri (Kerala), Jan 8 (Ians) Gokulam Kerala made a perfect start to their year, registering a 1-0 win over Churchill Brothers in their I-League 2022-23 match at the Payyanad Stadium, here on Sunday.
In a game where Churchill Brothers had an attacking edge over Gokulam Kerala, it was the defensive line led by the captain Aminou Bouba that helped the hosts keep their hattrick hopes alive as the debutant Sergio Mendigutxia scored the decisive second-half goal.
Both teams went close in the initial minutes of the game with Churchill’s Spanish magician Tana going close in the fourth minute following a cross from Lamgoulen Hangshing. However, the Spaniard skied his shot. Two minutes later, Gokulam’s Noufal crossed it to Sergio Mendigutxia, who headed it wide.

New Delhi, Nov 3 (Ians) Gokulam Kerala Fc, who created history by becoming the first team ever to clinch back-to-back I-League titles, are hungry to make it a hat-trick in the forthcoming 2022-23 season as the action returns to the traditional home-and-away format after a two-year wait.
After claiming the 2021-22 crown in fine fashion on the last day of the campaign, the new-look team will take the field in the upcoming season with a number of new players joining the club.
The Malabarians outfit will have Cameroonian Richard Towa taking over the managerial reins from Italian Vicenzo Alberto Annese, who led the club to the twin titles. The squad bears a fresh look with forwards Luka Majcen, Jourdain Fletcher, Jithin Ms, midfielder Emil Benny, defenders Alex Saji and Muhammed Uvais, and goalkeeper Rakshit Dagar — all of whom played key roles in the team’s triumph last season — departing for other clubs.
