Spoilers for "X-Men '97" to follow.
The latest episode of "X-Men '97," "Remember It," took us to mutant haven Genosha (before it all went to Hell anyway). The island turned out to be a treasure trove of cameos; the Genoshan ruling council included Hellfire Club leaders Emma Frost and Sebastian Shaw, Morlock leader Callisto, the Irish mutant Banshee, Professor X's old flame Moira MacTaggert, and former Goblin Queen Madelyne Pryor. The streets of Genosha were filled with other mutants whom "X-Men" comics fans may recognize, from Pixie to Dazzler to Marrow to Exodus.
The best mutant cameo of all, though, is the blue-skinned Bavarian Kurt Wagner, aka Nightcrawler. His voice actor, Adrian Hough, joins the ranks of those who've reprised their roles from the 1992 "X-Men" cartoon.

It’s not just video games that dominate the digital airwaves on platforms like Twitch — there’s a huge contingent of viewers who yearn for the old days of pen and paper, with tabletop RPGs making a huge splash virtually in the last few years. In fact, once-niche games like Dungeons & Dragons (which turns 50 this year) have taken on new life in the age of livestreaming, and more popular than ever.

Late Saturday afternoon at San Diego Comic-Con, thousands of fans, packed inside a cavernous ballroom, roared to life as the cast for one of the biggest shows to appear at this year’s annual fan convention stepped onto the stage. It was, in fact, one of the only times a cast of actors appeared at Sdcc this year. And it wasn’t for a superhero movie or TV show or any massive franchise backed by a major studio.
Instead, it was for “Critical Role,” the popular, long-running webseries that started as a group of voice actors getting together to play Dungeons & Dragons.
“A question for the audience: anyone who’s doing cosplay, will you please stand up so we can see it?” asked star Liam O’Brien from the stage. Half the crowd — many of whom were dressed as characters from the show — leapt to their feet.
“You look beautiful San Diego!

Lance Reddick’s unexpected death in March 2023 halted a thriving acting career that consisted of many memorable performances, including several voice-over gigs on TV series like “Castlevania,” “Duck Tales” and “Rick and Morty.” In addition to half a dozen mid-production projects, his legacy could include a posthumous Emmy victory in honor of his vocal work on the Amazon Prime Video animated series “The Legend of Vox Machina.” After Chadwick Boseman, who won the 2022 Best Character Voice-Over prize for “What If…?” two years after his death, Reddick would be the second posthumous recipient of any voice acting Emmy.
Reddick joined the recurring cast of “The Legend of Vox Machina” in its second season, which concluded less than a month before he died. His character, Thordak, is the leader of a group of dragons known as the Chroma Conclave, whose destructive plans are encumbered by the heroic, interspecific members of Vox Machina.

Amazon has made a mighty embrace of the Critical Role cinematic universe.
Amazon Studios announced a multiyear exclusive overall TV and first-look film deal with Critical Role, the media company and D&d role-playing group behind Prime Video’s popular adult animation series “The Legend of Vox Machina.”
The first new series to be produced under the agreement is “Mighty Nein,” based on Critical Role’s second campaign, which ran from January 2018 to mid-2021. The Mighty Nein adventuring party — a band of criminals and misfits — are the only ones who can prevent the kingdom from plunging into chaos when an arcane artifact capable of reshaping reality falls into the wrong hands. “Mighty Nein” is set to begin production shortly in partnership with animation studio Titmouse, which has teamed with Critical Role and Amazon Studios for “Vox Machina.” The series will premiere exclusively on Prime Video, but there’s no release date as yet.

The Critical Role crew swings back into hilarious, perilous and profanity-laced fantasy action with the Season 2 debut of “The Legend of Vox Machina” on Friday, Jan. 20, on Prime Video.
As with the first season, Prime Video will release Season 2 of the Dungeons & Dragons-inspired show in three-episode weekly batches, culminating in 12 episodes total. In the new series, the Vox Machina heroes/antiheroes face off against a powerful foursome of dragons called the Chroma Conclave, which spew ice and acid, have nearly impenetrable armor and threaten to destroy the world of Exandria.
For Season 1 of “Vox Machina,” the eight principal Critical Role members (who each also serve as executive producers) needed to provide a healthy dose of exposition. That was in large part to bring viewers unfamiliar with the motley band of adventurers — based on Critical Role’s original D&d campaign, which dates back to 2015 — up to speed.

“The Legend of Vox Machina” Season 2 is putting a major emphasis on the “dragons” of Dungeons and Dragons.
The Prime Video series dropped an action-packed official trailer for Season 2, which begins rolling out on the streamer on Jan. 20. Like the first season, the follow-up will release three episodes per week, culminating in 12 episodes total.
Season 2 will follow the Chroma Conclave campaign from Critical Role’s popular Dungeons and Dragons web series. The heroes of Vox Machina will have to face a powerful group of dragons called the Chroma Conclave before they destroy the world of Exandria. And these aren’t your typical fire-breathing dragons — they spew ice and acid and have nearly impenetrable armor. To defeat these beasts, the Vox Machina heroes must find rare weapons powerful enough to kill gods. Or, as Grog the goliath suggests, they could just “fuck shit up.”

After three years in the works, Critical Role’s animated “The Legend of Vox Machina” finally lit up streaming screens on Prime Video last month — delighting fans with a raucous, foul-mouthed spree of action and adventure.
The show, based on Critical Role’s first Dungeons & Dragons campaign, is currently No. 3 on Prime Video’s Top 10 ranking in the U.S. (after action-thriller series “Reacher” and rom-com “I Want You Back”). It also has an impressive 100% critics’ score on Rotten Tomatoes and a 93% audience score.
The first nine episodes of “Vox Machina” were released in three-episode batches over the past three weeks. The final three episodes in Season 1 drop Thursday (Feb. 17), leading into a 12-episode second season, whose premiere date is Tba.
So what’s next for the Critical Role crew? Right now, they’re in the midst of the Campaign 3 livestream, and they are in discussions with partners about a video game adaptation.

This article contains spoilers for the first six episodes of The Legend of Vox Machina.
There’s an old adage in tabletop roleplaying circles: no one is as interested in your character and campaign as you are. But the popularity of podcasts like Adventure Zone and Critical Role have revealed that with the right storytellers and cast, there’s a large audience eager to follow characters on their wacky adventures. Following a wildly successful, record breaking Kickstarter to fund an animated special, the Critical Role team expanded their initial idea from a short animated project to a full season, picked up by Amazon Prime Video.
Clearly, the fans of the podcast would follow the cast to the animated adaptation. But what about viewers who’d never listened to the extensive campaign? They might find some value in the venture as well…after a few episodes.

The Legend Of Vox MacHina is an animated fantasy adventure for adult viewers – especially those who groove on Dungeons and Dragons and similar forays into the realms of magical creatures with special powers clashing over their various kingdoms, planets, etc. I am not one of them, but still enjoyed the heck out the first six episodes of this new series on Amazon Prime.
A diverse little band of mercenaries who really can’t fully get along with each other, undertake quests for profit. Some of them are too bawdy for prime-time; the language is salty, and the action sequences can be pretty elaborate. There’s even a bit of nudity on the menu. If they have backstories from other media, I don’t know what it is, and fellow newbies won’t need it to dive right in. The first episode establishes the tone and defines the players quite nicely,...

Variety asked bonafide Dungeons & Dragons expert Spencer Crittenden — of “Harmontown” and “HarmonQuest” fame — to watch Amazon Prime Video’s new series “The Legends of Vox Machina” and give his take on the show. Crittenden knows a thing or two about turning his experience as a Dungeon Master into a bit of a career, and that’s exactly what the Critical Role team has done on their popular D&d stream — which has now led to “Vox Machina.” Here’s Crittenden’s review.
It’s hard to explain to the outside observer what Amazon Prime Video’s new animated series “The Legend of Vox Machina” means for the D&d fans of the world. Dungeons and Dragons, the once-reviled and still deeply misunderstood fantasy game, is enjoying unprecedented popularity in our current age of never-ending content and streaming. This article contains some spoilers for Critical Role campaign 3.
Critical Role, the live role-playing series, can be, in a word, daunting. The actual-play stream has been running for years, featuring a cast of professional voice actors and friends playing characters in long-running campaigns once a week, every Thursday, for four hours a session. That’s a huge time sink for the uninitiated, and it can be intimidating! Fortunately, now’s a great time to get started.
Last October, Critical Role returned from a hiatus with their third campaign set in Dm Matt Mercer’s homebrew world of Exandria. Where the first two campaigns explored the continents of Tal’dorei and Wildemount, this new one is set in Marquet.
It’s an exciting time, learning a new chapter of a campaign setting’s world, learning a new land and new characters alongside it. While the characters of the first two campaigns...

On the evening of March 12, 2015, Critical Role had its first public showing. In a livestreamed event from a dimly lit studio in Burbank, eight players sat at a table immersed in a Dungeons & Dragons role-playing game for nearly three hours — their first foray in a form of storytelling that would bloom into an indie media empire, complete with an upcoming Amazon show.
Before C.R. began streaming shows on Twitch and YouTube, it started as a group of friends who knew each other from voice-over gigs in animation and video games playing D&d together. The first two sessions were at the L.A. apartment of Matthew Mercer, Critical Role’s long-standing dungeon master, and Marisha Ray, who is now the company’s creative director; they then moved to the house of Travis Willingham (now CEO) and Laura Bailey (who handles C.R.’s merchandise business). “It was an excuse to hang out together,...

This Star Wars: The Bad Batch article contains spoilers.
After weeks of being on the run, after making contact with Rex and having their bio-chips removed, the Bad Batch are finally able to head back to “base” on Ord Mantell. But the respite doesn’t last very long in “Common Ground.” In fact, it’s only minutes after their arrival that they’re off again, on a new mission for Cid (Rhea Perlman), this time to save a former Separatist senator from the Empire.
To say that their new job makes the clone troopers of the Bad Batch uncomfortable is an understatement. Their rescue mission on Raxus, the former capital of the Separatist systems, is new territory for these soldiers. Mere months ago, their goal was to take down the Separatists in the name of the Republic, but their new lives as mercenaries now finds them helping one of their key leaders,...

Critical Role gave fans a first look at the character art for upcoming Amazon original animated series “The Legend of Vox Machina,” created by Emmy-winning artist, animator and designer Phil Bourassa.
Cr is producing “The Legend of Vox Machina,” based on the popular role-playing collective’s first campaign. In 2019 Amazon Prime Video ordered a total of 24 episodes across two seasons after the project broke Kickstarter records. The first season is slated to debut “soon” on Amazon Prime Video.
Bourassa’s credits include character designs for DC/Warner Bros. Animation’s “Young Justice,” “Batman: Bad Blood,” “Batman: Hush” and “Justice League” series.
Bourassa, in a video Critical Role released Wednesday about his joining the series (watch below), said he worked closely with the Cr team to create the anime-inflected character looks.
“Normally, when I’m creating a design it comes from the written word, or a comic book, or even just the writer’s script,...

The folks behind longrunning Dungeons & Dragons web series Critical Role are raising funds on Kickstarter to turn the series’ hit first campaign into an animated special.
The campaign, which went live this morning, had a goal of $750,000. It’s already raised $2.6 million at time of posting, with 45 days of funding to go.
Critical Role started off as an ongoing tabletop role-play campaign run by voice actor Matt Mercer and produced by Felicia Day’s Geek & Sundry. It followed a group of heroes collectively known as Vox Machina. Characters in the game were played by Mercer’s friends and fellow voice actors: Ashley Johnson, Marisha Ray, Taliesin Jaffe, Travis Willingham, Sam Riegel, Laura Bailey, and Liam O'Brien. Mercer and friends first broadcast the series on YouTube, where they gathered 350,000 subscribers and built a large cross-platform fanbase that saw Critical Role become the No. 1 web series on Tumblr last year.

Warner Bros. Interactive have released an all new trailer for Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor, but instead of focusing on the gameplay, this trailer is all about setting the tone, and establishing the story that gamers will be playing through. Honestly, it's the most interesting this game has looked so far. On top of that, they've also revealed the voice cast you'll be hearing. Come inside to check it out and learn more!
Call me crazy, but for me, the most exciting things about video games are the stories. That's why I gravitate towards more story-focused games and never got into the Fps/multi-player genres. Story is what drives me to keep playing through, and as such, today's newest trailer has me more interested in Shadow of Mordor than before:
Lots of story going on here, and some interesting concepts that haven't really been explored in the Lord of the Rings license.

It's an interesting concept, that's for sure.
Of all the films, TV shows and games that you may have interacted with - in some form or another - over the years, I'd be pretty darn confident to say that not once had you played, viewed or imagined 'Death', or, to be specific, the Horseman Death, as some form of 'good guy'. And yet this is what presents itself within Thq's latest offering, Darksiders II.
However, before we lose all track of our sanity we must consider the history of this series. Our protagonist in the original Darksiders was War himself, a man hated by both heaven and hell (and you thought you were unpopular), and it is the [unjust] imprisonment of 'War' that spurs Death's journey here in the sequel.
But what of the gameplay? What of the storyline? And ultimately, have Thq and Vigil Games listened to their fans, to...

"Okay sir, you're a Lebowski, I'm a Lebowski, that's terrific, I'm very busy so what can I do for you?"
Everyone was a Little Lebowski Urban Achiever last night at New York's Hammerstein Ballroom as thousands of abiders gathered to witness the "Big Lebowski" cast reunion as part of 2011 Lebowskifest. The surreal atmosphere was perpetuated by people dolled up as just about every character in the movie including at least a dozen "Walters" (some with Folgers Coffee urns) and countless folk dressed as His Dudeness, many sitting next to each other.
Perennial Lebowskifest attendee Jeff Dowd, a.k.a. "The Actual Real Dude" that Bridges and the Coens based the character on, was present for a pre-show Q&A/costume contest, and even James G. Hoosier who played "Liam O'Brien, Quintana's Bowling Partner" showed up to enjoy the event from the audience.
