Netflix has debuted the trailer for the series based on the best-selling book series By Holly Smale, ‘Geek Girl’.
The show tells the story of awkward teenager Harriet Manners whose life is turned upside down when she is spotted to be a model and embarks on a life-affirming journey of self-discovery as she balances high school and high fashion.
The coming-of-age series follows sixteen-year-old Harriet Manners, who has spent her life trying to be invisible, to blend in seamlessly, but there’s no denying, she’s a geek. Her whole world changes after she catches the eye of a modelling agent while on a school trip to London Fashion Week. Tightly wound agents, reclusive designers, impossibly high heels, and a handsome young supermodel with a great smile — socially awkward Harriet has no idea what she’s in for.
Emily Carey stars as Harriet. The all-star cast also includes Emmanuel Imani as Wilbur Evans,...

Breakout Australia comedy Colin From Accounts is back in production.
An official green light of Season 2 of the hit Binge sitcom came in August, after writers and stars Patrick Brammall and Harriet Dyer chose to down their pens in solidarity with WGA strike in the U.S. over the summer.
Exec producer Alison Hurbert-Burns from Binge told Deadline in October production would begin in “coming months,” adding: “As an Australian program it was outside of the strike, but they just felt it was the right thing to do.”
Brammall and Dyer finished the scripts once a deal was struck at the end of September. Production is now back underway across Sydney, with Easy Tiger Productions and CBS Studios returning the produce.

In a clip from the documentary, Little Richard: I Am Everything, we hear the young entertainer singing an early version of what would become his signature tune, “Tutti Frutti.” But surprise! The original lyrics were different than the ones we know today: “Tutti frutti, good booty/Tutti frutti, good booty!”
The song, as Richard wrote it, was about gay sex. In 1955, it would become the rock ‘n’ roll pioneer’s breakthrough hit, catapulting him to mainstream stardom — but only after the words were revised to something much more benign: “Tutti frutti, oh rooty/Tutti frutti, oh rooty!”
The sanitized lyrics symbolize the deep conflict between Little Richard’s public persona and his private life, and how he could hit the stage in all his authentic glory, then do an about-face when the spotlight became too white-hot and too controversial — especially in the deep South, at a time when the definition...

Food and science have been friendly bedfellows for decades. After all, bartenders are keen to study the art of mixology before they serve their first customer. New technology has completely revolutionized how we cook our food, with self-cleaning ovens, WiFi-enabled stovetops and air fryers present in many households. But science is all about the idea of change, the hypothesis being that bucking trends might lead to new discoveries from within. Enter “Lessons in Chemistry,” the new limited series from Apple TV+ that takes this concept and brings its streaming audience back to the 1960s with Academy Award-winner Brie Larson in the forefront.
Based on the bestselling novel of the same name by Bonnie Garmus, “Lessons in Chemistry” stars Larson as Elizabeth Zott, a chemist turned TV cooking show host. Zott’s trajectory from fired lab employee to taking a television gig to help housewives understand bold scientific subjects and apply...

For Elizabeth Zott (Brie Larson), the intrepid heroine of Apple TV+’s Lessons in Chemistry, perfection is the ultimate goal. By the time we meet her, she’s made the same lasagna dish 78 times — each time with subtle and meticulously documented tweaks, in pursuit of a recipe that can’t possibly be further improved upon.
As evidenced by his obvious delight as Calvin (Lewis Pullman) sinks his teeth into her latest effort, though, a dish doesn’t need to be perfect to be pleasurable. Neither does a TV series. Lessons in Chemistry is far from flawless; even those (like me) who’ve never read the Bonnie Garmus novel on which it’s based will be able to feel the seams where the source material and the adaptation do not quite mesh. Nevertheless, it’s worth tucking into, thanks to an endearing cast, witty dialogue and easily digestible themes.

[This story contains spoilers for Haunted Mansion.]
Haunted Mansion director Justin Simien wanted to make a Disney movie that wasn’t afraid to challenge younger audiences in the same way that the Disney classics of his youth did. From Bambi’s Mother’s death in Bambi (1942) to Scar murdering Mufasa in The Lion King (1994), Disney has never shied away from heavier subject matters and themes, but in the case of the Haunted Mansion, there was one line that Simien just could not cross.
The lead of Simien’s film is Lakeith Stanfield’s Ben, a former astrophysicist turned paranormal tour guide in New Orleans. Ben’s life hasn’t been the same since his wife, Alyssa (Charity Jordan), died in a car accident, and so the character was originally slated for a rather devastating ending, as opposed to the more upbeat version that’s in theaters now.

Disney’s Haunted Mansion has officially materialized in theaters nationwide, unleashing 999 grim grinning ghosts upon audiences.
Justin Simien (Dear White People, Bad Hair) directed the new live-action adaptation of the famous, long-running Disney theme park attraction from the screenplay by Katie Dippold (Ghostbusters, “Parks and Recreation”).
Bloody Disgusting spoke with Simien for the film’s release about capturing the unique tone of the dark ride and what stars Lakeith Stanfield and Chase Dillon brought to the production.
The family-friendly feature emphasizes humor, but Haunted Mansion doesn’t shy away from inducing frights or tugging at the heartstrings.
Simien took the gateway scares seriously, stemming from his lifelong love of horror that began in childhood. The director’s origins with horror give insight into his approach to crafting gateway scares that don’t talk down to the film’s younger audience.
“One of my core memories is watching Nightmare on Elm Street at five years old.

And the Summer of product adaptations and remakes continues! Last weekend Barbie just about blew the doors off the box office and the multiplex in a virtual tsunami of pink perfection. Hey, if a toy can revive the ticket sale doldrums, why not a flick based on a ride from the Disney theme parks? After all, those Caribbean Pirates spurred quite a profitable “tentpole” for the studio. But then there were costly flops like Tomorrowland and who remembers The Country Bears (maybe they just needed that “nose candy”). Well, this concept was exploited nearly twenty years ago, so this is also, technically, a remake (without any of the main human characters from the first time). Perhaps the modest success of the other remake a few months ago, The Little Mermaid, is lifting the “ahem” spirits of the mouse house. So, even though Halloween is months away, are filmgoers in the...

Disney's newest attempt at turning a theme park ride into a feature film has arrived with the silly spook-fest with a heart of gold, "Haunted Mansion." Fans need no reminder that the beloved attraction made its name on the strength of humor, scares, and a unique approach to the classic haunted house setup that took full advantage of what Disney does best. After the 2003 Eddie Murphy-starring film came and went (though not before inspiring a bit of a cult following over the intervening years), all eyes were trained on director Justin Simien and his star-studded take on the beloved IP.
The basic structure isn't too far afield from what audiences might expect: a grieving widower named Ben Matthias (Lakeith Stanfield) has given up on his astrophysicist passions and his dabbles in the supernatural, turning into an avowed skeptic with absolutely no patience for the ghost-obsessives around him in New Orleans.

Maybe it’s the cumulative effect of watching so much top-notch talent being wasted. Or the woozy sensation of being subjected to two hours of cut-rate CGI effects apparently purchased in a bulk deal. Or the blatant product placement for Burger King jalapeño poppers. Or the in-joke nod to Beetlejuice, a comparative reference which does this movie zero favors. But there will inevitably be something about Haunted Mansion, Disney’s latest attempt to spin amusement park memories into box-office gold, that qualifies as a dealbreaker. A corporate I.P. Disney’s Haunted Mansion seeks to course correct from its looser adaptation of the famous theme park dark ride in 2003 with a new, much more faithful feature-length adaptation. That’s a tall order considering the original attraction opened in 1969, amassing decades’ worth of lore and history within its hallowed, spooky walls. Yet director Justin Simien and writer Katie Dippold carefully thread 999 happy haunts into a cohesive but densely packed storyline that brings every bit of the grim grinning ghost funhouse antics, mythology, and details you’d expect. But it’s Simien and Dippold’s poignant approach to grief and death that solidifies their Haunted Mansion as worthwhile gateway horror for a new generation.
Once a promising young scientist, Ben (Lakeith Stanfield) now drinks his life away when not leading ghost tours in New Orleans. Ben’s deep in the throes of grief, trapped at a crossroads after his beloved wife’s passing.

For a few years there back in the early ’80s, Disney took a turn to the dark side, releasing live-action movies like “The Watcher in the Woods” (featuring a creepy late-career Bette Davis) and “Something Wicked This Way Comes” (from the mind of Ray Bradbury) that were intense enough to inspire nightmares — in kids, at least. The youngsters of that time are now parents, and some are surely asking themselves how far they can trust Disney not to traumatize another generation when a movie like “Haunted Mansion” comes along.
Truth be told, the PG-13-rated feature — which marks the studio’s second big-screen adaptation of its spooky theme park attraction — isn’t really that scary. Director Justin Simien (“Dear White People”) leans more on comedy than horror, bringing together a handful of funny stars to deal with Gracey Manor’s ghost problem. In 2003, audiences watched Eddie Murphy drop into “Haunted Mansion” in Rob Minkoff’s poorly received riff on Disney’s famous ride. Now 20 years later, Justin Simien, director of “Dear White People” and a former Disneyland ride operator, is trying his hand at putting the “grim, grinning ghosts” of the popular theme park attraction on the big screen — and the results are impressive.
Simien’s “Haunted Mansion” is a wondrous blend of horror and comedy, tinged with emotional resonance in its story of grief and how we try to connect with those we’ve lost. Anchored by a phenomenal performance by Lakeith Stanfield (“Atlanta”) and a solid ensemble, “Haunted Mansion” is a worthy take on the ride and a sleeper hit for families looking to find a fun summer film.

The Haunted Mansion is a dark ride attraction located at Disneyland, Magic Kingdom, and Tokyo Disneyland. The ride is set in a large, creaky mansion that is rumored to be haunted by the ghosts of its former residents. Riders are led through a series of rooms, each of which is decorated with creepy props and features a different ghostly encounter. Some of the most famous scenes in the ride include the Ballroom, where a group of ghosts are dancing, the Conservatory, where a casket floats in mid-air, and Madame Leota’s Séance Room, where a disembodied head floats in a crystal ball. Someone at Disney decided this was enough substance to turn this into a feature film. Not sure why.

Universal and Blumhouse have today unveiled the first trailer for The Exorcist: Believer — the first film in a new trilogy following up the 1973 horror classic, The Exorcist — at the same time setting an April 18, 2025 nationwide release for follow-up film The Exorcist: Deceiver.
While Deceiver currently sits alone in its opening weekend slot, Believer will open on October 13th of this year opposite the drama Ordinary Angels from Lionsgate and Kingdom Story Company, which stars Hilary Swank and Alan Ritchson.
Directed by David Gordon Green, who has most recently made his mark on another iconic horror franchise in Halloween, The Exorcist: Believer‘s protagonist is Victor Fielding, who, since the death of his pregnant wife in a Haitian earthquake 12 years ago, has raised their daughter Angela (Lidya Jewett) on his own. Director Justin Simien says his goal is to make Haunted Mansion the film feel like everything came right off Haunted Mansion the ride. In the new two-minute behind-the-scenes featurette, Simien’s cast confirms that’s exactly what he’s accomplished, from the busts down to the wallpaper. Lakeith Stanfield even describes it as really feeling haunted.
“What we wanted to do was preserve the details that fans remembered and expand the universe around them,” explains Simien. “The thing that makes the ride so cool is that the mansion already has a history, and our characters are discovering it.”
Lakeith Stanfield stars as Ben, Tiffany Haddish is Harriet, Owen Wilson is Kent, Danny DeVito is Bruce, and Rosario Dawson is Gabbie. The cast also includes Chase W. Dillion, Daniel Levy, Jamie Lee Curtis as Madame Leota, and Jared Leto as The Hatbox Ghost.

Janelle Monáe has announced her first album in five years, The Age of Pleasure, with a new single, “Lipstick Lover.” On Wednesday, she teased the single with a short clip of her emerging from a shallow pool as the track played in the background. In the early days of television, the “Big Three” networks ruled the small screen. ABC is the baby, entering the new medium a little behind its competitors, and finding new and creative ways to find success against two mighty opponents.
ABC found its earliest success with two programs that had begun on radio, “The Lone Ranger,” which was the network’s first big hit, and “The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet,” a sitcom loosely based on the life of the real-life Nelson family. The latter remained on the air for 14 seasons, and was the longest-running prime-time comedy for decades, and the longest-running live action sitcom until 2021. However, ABC still struggled against the firmly established NBC and CBS, and found innovative ways to compete.
In 1954, ABC and Walt Disney struck an unprecedented deal: the network helped finance the filmmaker’s ambitious Disneyland Park, while Disney produced a weekly TV show for the network.

Based on Henry Fielding’s “The History of Tom Jones, A Foundling,” the 2023 periodical romance drama Tom Jones portrays the charming and impulsive foundling Tom Jones, whose string of bad choices inexorably caused him to grow distant from Sophia Western, whom he genuinely loved. Despite knowing that Tom is a womanizer who sleeps with every other woman he meets, Sophia waits for him to return to her. This is a narrative that perpetuates the cliche of two lovebird characters being meant for each other despite their terrible decision-making and difficult conduct. Tom Jones, a PBS production, did not bring any novelty to the narrative, instead just decorating it with a romantic Disney atmosphere and depicting the socioeconomic disparities of 18th-century England.
Spoilers Ahead
What Happens In ‘Tom Jones’ Season 1?
The narrative of the story opens with Sophia describing Squire Allworthy, the richest man in the community, who one day found a baby in his bedroom.

Clone High was easily one of my favourite animated shows, but the series was cancelled in 2003 after just thirteen episodes. Now, twenty years later, the clones are back! HBO Max has released the first teaser trailer for the upcoming Clone High revival, which features the return of Abe, Joan, Cleo, JFK, and a few new faces.
The original Clone High series was created by Phil Lord, Christopher Miller, and Bill Lawrence, all of whom have returned for the revival. Dubbed a “modern refresh” of the original series, Clone High is “set at a high school for clones of historical figures. After a high school that was secretly being run as an elaborate military experiment to clone the greatest minds in history was put on ice, the clones have been thawed out 20 years later to resume the experiment with new clone classmates – all while navigating a new set of cultural norms and overly dramatic teen relationships.

Phil Lord and Chris Miller, directors of hits like "21 Jump Street" as well as the producers of "Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse," are at the top of the food chain in Hollywood these days -- but it wasn't always that way. Earlier on in their careers, when they were green, they made a little animated show called "Clone High" for MTV that, despite gaining critical acclaim and a loving audience, lasted just one season. Now though, the show is coming back on HBO Max, and we've got a brand new teaser trailer for the revival of this cult classic.
Lord and Miller have put their powers to use to bring back their beloved series, with original voice actors Will Forte and Nicole Sullivan returning as well. Lord is also back as Scudworth, Miller as JFK and Mr. B, Christa Miller as Candide Sampson, Donald Faison as George Washington Carver, and Judah Miller as Scangrade.

Long before Phil Lord and Christopher Miller became household names with "Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse" and Bill Lawrence took the sitcom world by storm with "Ted Lasso," the trio was responsible for a controversial animated comedy that lasted just one season. "Clone High" was a wild idea; a high-concept animated MTV sitcom about a high school full of clones of famous people that also served as a parody of teen shows at the time, it ultimately went off the air after its depiction of a clone of Gandhi inspired a hunger strike in India, according to Grantland.
Despite its short shelf life and bumpy history, "Clone High" achieved a bit of a cult status after it ended, and now, it's set to return with a stellar new cast and a few fan favorites. A first look at the upgraded version of the series debuted at WonderCon, where stars Nicole Sullivan...

In a surprising turn of events, Emma Raducanu will not be participating in Great Britain's upcoming Billie Jean King Cup Finals qualifying tie against France.
Team captain Anne Keothavong has opted to stick with the same roster that advanced to the semi-finals in September, leaving fans and critics alike speculating about the impact of Raducanu's absence on the team's performance.

Returning to our pages for her fourth appearance is Director Hannah Jacobs who shares with us her BAFTA nominated animation Your Mountain is Waiting, a short film produced by production company Strange Beast about embracing your instincts and facing the uncertainties of life head on. Jacobs tells her story with a subtle, gorgeous fluidity as her protagonist Martha, who is wrestling with her sense of intuition, smoothly drifts from quiet and introspective moments into vast surreal dreamscapes. Her visual style has a hand-drawn and illustrative sensibility too which gives its cast of characters, which is mostly made up of a wonderful variety of animals, a comforting comic feel. Dn spoke with Jacobs, in the run up to the BAFTA awards ceremony, to discuss her journey into animation as a practice, the introspective nature of her narrative, and the importance of colour as tool to establish mood.

With just six feature film credits under her belt, Danielle Deadwyler has already hit a major career milestone by earning her first Screen Actors Guild Award nomination. This recognition comes for her harrowing work as Mamie Till-Mobley in “Till,” which, after a long development period, finally exists as an emotionally impactful account of one of the darkest pieces of American history. Although her competition is stiff, the sheer power of her performance in her regrettably timely film may be more than enough to secure her victory.
Along with Ana de Armas (“Blonde”), Deadwyler is one of two total SAG Awards newcomers in this year’s Best Film Actress lineup. Also new to the category is Michelle Yeoh, who, after being recognized as a “Crazy Rich Asians” ensemble member in 2019, has now received solo and cast bids for “Everything Everywhere All at Once.” Rounding out the group are SAG Awards heavy-hitters...

We got our answer about how the series intends to write Meredith out for the season or beyond.
Meredith is moving to Boston, and there's such a full-circle aspect. It feels like a natural progression for the character, both accommodating her family, or at least Zola's needs, while also appealing to her own.
In addition to that noteworthy conclusion on Grey's Anatomy Season 19 Episode 5, the hour gave us one of the most gutwrenching cases that take direct aim at the repeal of Roe v. Wade, and it did not miss.
Jesse Williams was back in front of and behind the camera for this installment, and he did a fabulous job in both cases. It was good to see Jackson again. He was genuinely thriving.
Have we ever seen Jackson this happy in his life? The move was good for him, and he's in a position of power where he gets to do some good.

Dangerous Liaisons first sparked the imagination with the epistolary novel by Pierre Chordelos de Laclos, published in 1782.
It has seen many iterations, including operas, ballets, and many films and television adaptations.
Perhaps most famous is the 1988 film directed by Stephen Frears, starring Glenn Close, John Malkovich, Michelle Pfeiffer, and Uma Thurman, written by Christopher Hampton, based on his successful play.
This latest version sees a story focusing on the rise of Valmont and the Marquise de Merteuil and how they found their place in the French aristocracy.
We had the pleasure of speaking to creator/showrunner Harriet Warner and executive producer Collin Callender about what we can expect from this racy new take on a classic.
We've seen many remakes of this story, so what inspired you to take these characters into a prequel?

Monday Pm: TriStar’s The Woman King stayed on track with its Sunday Am estimate, coming in at 19.05M.
It’s another great example of how Sony continues to win over adult audiences with non-tentpole fare. Pre-pandemic, TriStar had Little Women in December 2019 which posted a 3-day of 16.7M and legged out to 108.1M, and the Sony label had a summer sleeper in Where the Crawdads Sing which debuted to 17.2M and is still going, now at 88.9M domestic, 127M WW.
Chairman and CEO of Sony Pictures’ Motion Picture Group, Tom Rothman, sent out the following celebratory email to staff about Woman King‘s triumph:
