Back in June, it was reported that Clive Barker, the man behind the "Hellraiser" and "Candyman" franchise, was being sued by his ex-boyfriend for giving him HIV and then kicking him out on the street. The ex-boyfriend, Emilian David Armstrong, said that Barker got HIV from his cousin, but also often engaged in drug and sex parties that involved syringes. He was suing for a cut of the profits stemming from Barker's businesses. Now comes word that a judge reviewed the lawsuit and threw it out, calling it baseless. This is the second time that this case was thrown out. The first time, the judge gave Armstrong the chance to provide new evidence. But since Armstrong never followed through, the dismissal has now become permanent, which means that even new evidence will be ignored.

Scandalous Neil Simon Theatre, NYC
Well, you can't blame the cast, and shaking one's fists at God seems pointless, but regardless of who's at fault, Scandalous, the new musical playing at the Neil Simon, is painful enough to make even the most fervent believers question their faith in musical theater. Armed with a heavily plotted story and the general mirth of a crucifixion, this musical is sadly beyond salvation.
It all begins with a poorly selected and misleading title that makes us feel we're about to see something tawdry, or at least mildly titillating; instead we are pushed through the life story of Aimee Semple McPherson, a woman we hardly care about and who would be much better served by a more objective Ken Burns documentary.
Carolee Carmello deserves some kind of award for endurance, as she spends less than seven minutes off the stage for this song-heavy production and,...

Clive Barker, the man behind the "Candyman" and "Hellraiser" franchises, is being sued by his ex-boyfriend for giving him HIV and then kicking him out on the street. Emilian David Armstrong says he met Barker in early 1996, and they quickly moved in together. Then in November 1996, he was diagnosed with HIV. Armstrong believes that he contracted it from Barker, who tested positive for HIV and then urged him to also get tested. Armstrong says Barker confessed he had previously engaged in a sexual relationship with his own cousin, who had AIDS. And also engaged in sadomasochism in prior relationships that involved syringes. The reason why Armstrong waited sixteen years to file the lawsuit, is because he tried to fix his relationship with Barker and to battle the virus together.
