He lived in Columbia, Missouri with his parents until the age of five where they went to graduate school. After that the family moved to Monterrey, Nuevo Leon, Mexico where he grew up and went to elementary school and high school. He also went to Facultad de Ingenieria Mecanica y Electrica FIME UANL, where he earned an undergraduate degree in electronics engineering in 1993. He started his professional musical studies in 1985 at Facultad de Musica FaMus from the same educational institution Universidad Autonoma de Nuevo Leon, where he learned how to play the piano, flute and musical writing as harmony, counterpoint, and musical arrangement and earned a degree in musical composition. Next he earned a master's degree from Tulane University and a doctorate in electrical engineering also from Tulane University. In 2003, he joined the faculty of his Alma Mater UANL as professor of graduate studies in electrical and mechanical engineering.
