Tituss Burgess instructs everyone to “Dance M.F.” on his funky new single. This is the Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt star’s first foray into dance music.
Above a thumping disco-house beat, Burgess opens the song by smoothly talking. “This is an emergency,” he says calmly. From there, he reminds the listener that it’s a waste of time to care about what everyone thinks. He proceeds to encourage everyone to “dance motherfucker” on the chorus. The song features additional vocals from Imani Coppola and arrived with an animated video that...

Nick Cave lends his vocals to “Our Lady of Light,” a slow-building duet with author-writer-actor Larry “Ratso” Sloman that will appear on the latter’s debut album, Stubborn Heart, due out April 5th. The song has an orchestral backdrop, an easy tempo and dreamy, Fifties-style backup vocals — it all sounds a bit similar to Cave’s music (thanks to the humming organ in the background) — as Sloman and Cave tell the story of a big-spirited woman at a wedding. In an uncharacteristically short statement, Cave said, “I’m proud to...

Lakeshore Records will release the original soundtrack to the Weinstein Company comedy "Butter," starring Jennifer Garner, Ty Burrell, Olivia Wilde, Rob Corddry, Ashley Greene, Alicia Silverstone and Hugh Jackman, digitally on October 9th. The synopsis? When her husband (Ty Burrell) is unceremoniously asked to step down after taking first prize for fifteen years as the master Butter Carver at the Iowa State Fair, the limelight-seeking, ultra-competitive Laura Pickler (Garner) takes on a 12-year-old, African-American (Yara Shahidi) butter sculpting prodigy in a butter carving contest of epic proportions. With twelve tracks in all, the soundtrack features: two songs by L.A. soul/indie pop band Fitz and the Tantrums; one rather popular tune from Sigur Rós frontman Jonsi (the lead single from his 2010 solo album, often used in trailers and movies these days); Imani Coppola featuring Tim Myers; soul singer Raphael Saadiq; Atlanta, Georgia hip...

A reluctant Hollywood child star, he returned to the spotlight in the Superman movies
Jackie Cooper, who has died aged 88, was the first child star of the talkies, paving the way for Freddie Bartholomew, Shirley Temple and Mickey Rooney. While they could turn on the waterworks when called for, Cooper beat them all easily at the crying game. Little Jackie, from the age of eight until his early teens, blubbed his way effectively through a number of tearjerkers. Sometimes he would try to suppress his tears, pouting and saying, "Ah, shucks! Ah, shucks!" As a critic wrote in 1934: "Jackie Cooper's tear ducts, having been more or less in abeyance for the past few months, have been opened up to provide an autumn freshet in Peck's Bad Boy."
Cooper had started off in the movies billed as "the little tough guy" in eight of Hal Roach's Our Gang comedy shorts.

To quote America’s Got Talent’s eloquent host Nick Cannon, “It’s the finals man!” Yes, it’s come to this, PopWatchers. Four acts are left in the running, each hoping for a career on the Vegas strip and beyond. Piers did his best Simon Cowell impression, crushing the dreams of Prince Poppycock (who he claimed he”blew it”) and Fighting Gravity, while praising Jackie Evancho as the greatest thing since DVR. But the Prince didn’t seem discouraged. In a post-show interview with People, he described the dreaded “X” he received from Piers as simply a means to create tension,...

It was no surprise that 10-year-old Jackie Evancho advanced to the semifinals on America’s Got Talent last night. Her powerful, Susan Boyle-invoking performance was all the buzz yesterday, despite some skeptics who questioned if the booming sound was really her. Luckily, Howie Mandel took a moment away from his usual creepy schtick and defended Evancho, as well as all the other acts. “On this show no contestant is allowed to lip sync. It doesn’t happen!” he said. Little Jackie even sang on command to prove her legitimacy. Now are you convinced America?
Joining Evancho was magician Dan Sperry,...

Katy Perry has maintained her hold over the UK singles chart, notching up a fourth week at No.1 with 'I Kissed A Girl'. The highest new entry of the week comes from Eric Prydz, the Swedish DJ who topped the charts in 2004 with 'Call On Me', whose new single 'Pjanoo' lands in second position. Rihanna climbs a place to third with 'Disturbia', while Irish trio The Script fall to fourth with 'The Man Who Can't Be Moved'. Meanwhile, Scottish rock trio Biffy Clyro continue to make headway on the chart, climbing from ten to five with 'Mountains'. Notable gains come from New York duo Little Jackie, who jump from 21 to 14 with 'The World' Should Revolve (more)...

At 34 minutes, Little Jackie's The Stoop is slight in length, but it's still a monster of a debut. Musically, The Stoop fuses catchy R&B with flourishes of doo-wop, hip-hop, and pop—courtesy of producer Adam Pallin—but its soul stems from singer Imani Coppola, whose late-'90s hit "Legend Of A Cowgirl" only hinted at her capabilities. Coppola's lyrical wit and swagger define The Stoop's appeal, be they in the form of a charged empowerment anthem like "The World Should Revolve Around Me" ("I ain't concerned with my biological clock / Since I never grow old, my heart is always in stock"), the bouncy kiss-off to a cheating lover "Lol" ("Lol, I text your cell, gotta spell out 'go to hell' / Toss you in the trash bin, reduce you to an acronym"), or even a critique of the...
