Vishal Bharadwaj‘s Khufiya 2023, based on the book Escape to Nowhere by Amar Bhushan, is an espionage thriller that is filled with nuances and constructed of hidden thoughts and secret desires. As the story of the film begins with a mission gone wrong in Bangladesh in 2004, it promises to be a gripping and suspenseful journey into the world of spies and intrigue. But with a runtime of two and a half hours, the events in the film propel with such momentum that the impetus the story demands never gets its due and leaves the entire viewing experience dissatisfied. The film does not lack proper development and resolution; rather, the lackluster flow of scenes hinders the flow and inhibits us from fully engaging with the story. The narrative focuses on the inevitable human tragedy at the heart of a power structure whose intentions are to safeguard the interests of its...

Vishal Bharadwaj, Wamiqa Gabbi, and Ali Fazal recently appeared on the IMDb exclusive segment ‘On The Scene,’ to talk about their film ‘Khuifya’. The movie is an official adaptation of the acclaimed spy-fiction novel, ‘Escape to Nowhere’ by Amar Bhushan. Together the trio spilled the beans on what it was like working on such a project, and for the first time with each other.
Bharadwaj on mistakes being a part of the process said, “There is a scene where for the first time Ali and Wamiqa confront each other. The first day we shot this scene, we made a mistake because in the scene she gets hit on her forehead. But when I saw the mark of the wound, it was not clear, and it appeared as if weeks or months had passed since the wound. I was very conscious of that because while you shoot, a phase comes where...

The amazing actress Tabu, just like in any of her other films, has nailed the character of Krishna Mehra (Km) in Khufiya. We have seen her flourish in other strong roles in films such as Drishyam, Andhadhun, and Haider, among others. Vishal Bhardwaj has been successful in being able to depict the character of Km in the film Khufiya, which is an adaptation of real-life incidents from the book ‘Escape to Nowhere’ by Amar Bhushan. Some sources suggest that the character of Tabu in Khufiya is even inspired by the real-life person, Amar Bhushan. In the book, there was only one character, Jeevan, who conducted a thorough investigation for the search for the mole, but the film has split the character into two parts for dramatic purposes. Being a part of the Indian R&aw, Km has been depicted as extremely patriotic, seeking to find out the mole in their...

Hindi cinema has treated spy thrillers and espionage thrillers in a cliched manner. There are a handful of films in this genre that do a good job of presenting their story realistically. Raazi and Madras Café are prime examples of good storytelling with solid performances, but there are countless films that do not bother to remain grounded. They are given exaggerated treatment at the screenplay level. There tends to be more emphasis on action set pieces than actual storytelling. Khufiya comes somewhere in between the two kinds mentioned above. This Vishal Bhardwaj film is a Netflix India original that was released on October 5, 2023. Khufiya is based on the book “Escape to Nowhere” by Amar Bhushan, which is about a high-ranking Indian intelligence official who is caught spying for an enemy country.

Khufiya turned out to be a complicated spy thriller. Vishal Bhardwaj was bang on the money with the humor and the satirical parts of the movie, but the rest of the film had scope for improvement. Despite its issues, Khufiya presented some interesting characters that got embroiled in espionage of a larger magnitude. This movie was about a senior intelligence officer betraying his agency and country and fleeing to America. Several characters in the film are now at it to locate this man and bring him back to make him face the Indian judicial system.

What Was Operation Brutus?
Jeevanathan, portrayed by the veteran actor Ashish Vidyarthi, was in support of the work Krishna Mehra does right from the beginning of the film. Krishna was a ruthless and shrewd R&aw analyst who, by the looks of it, has been a part of the Bangladesh desk for a very long time.

Netflix India has released some really good content this year, and the most prominent show from the streaming giant is Kohrra. Other than this Punjab based Netflix India Original; Class, Friday Night Plan, Choona, Guns & Gulaabs, and Jaane Jaan are some of the latest additions to the Netflix India lineup. Khufiya, directed by the famous Vishal Bharadwaj, is a new inclusion that, by the looks of it, is a spy thriller set in post-liberalization India. Vishal Bharadwaj also dropped a whodunnit web series Charlie Chopra and the Mystery of the Solang Valley, and we think the filmmaker is on a roll to be coming out with back-to-back work that will further diversify his filmography.

Shot entirely on an iPhone 14 Pro, ‘Fursat’ with Ishaan Khattar and Wamiqa Gabbi in lead roles, the movie, according to Bhardwaj, has proved that making a full-blown, two-hour feature film is now possible with the device. And he is willing to take a shot at it.
“Not just short films, I feel that the iPhone is now ready to help us create a full feature film. It is kind of unbelievable that we can have such a kind of stabilisation in scenes with Action Mode in iPhone 14 Pro. Cinematic Mode, or shift focus in our language, is another intelligent feature. The amazing part is that we could use this Cinematic Mode tool even after the shot was taken,” Bhardwaj told Ians.
The device, he said, gives freedom to filmmakers who cannot afford to hire the entire fleet of tech equipment.
“It liberates you. You have a great device and now you only need content,...
