Exclusive: Noah Media, producer of Netflix’s 14 Peaks and Sky’s Villeneuve Pironi, has restructured to focus on international docs and laid off a small number of staff.
The London outfit has in the past few months transitioned from a “UK sports-based production company into an international documentary producer,” according to a statement from CEO and co-founder John McKenna.
“This will see us transition from a staff-based to a more freelance-based model, in line with the norm across the factual production space,” said McKenna. “This has unfortunately meant some redundancies in the past few months for some employees we think are fantastic colleagues and people.”
For the year to March 31 2023, Noah had around 45 staff, according to its latest accounts. It will offer “freelance project-specific contracts” for employees who have lost jobs where possible, McKenna added, and he said this has already happened for some of those laid off.

New Delhi, Dec 30 (Ians) Legendary attacking midfielder Robert Pires regards fellow Frenchman, Thierry Henry as one of the best forwards the world has ever seen, especially during Arsenal’s Invincible season of 2003/04.
“Thierry is one of the best strikers for me. And this moment [2003-04] he was maybe number two just behind Ronaldo, the Brazilian. Thierry was an amazing, amazing player,” said Pires on the Home of Heroes show on Sports 18 and JioCinema.
Pires also believes legendary football manager Arsene Wenger is one of the finest managers in the world. “Oh, for me, Arsene is one of the best managers. I know him for a long, long time because he’s French. I’m French. I used to play for Marseille. He was in Monaco and I remember because he called me six months before I joined Arsenal and for me. Yeah, it was a great call from Arsene, from Arsenal.

London, Dec 27 (Ians) Premier League leaders Arsenal came back from a goal down to beat West Ham 3-1 and dispel doubts that their title challenge will be badly handicapped by the loss of Gabriel Jesus through injury.
Worries about Arsenal seemed to be confirmed on Monday when Said Benrahma put West Ham ahead with a 27th-minute penalty, but Bukayo Saka levelled the score in the 53rd minute after controlling Martin Odegaard’s mis-kick and Gabriel Martinelli put Arsenal ahead in the 59th minute.
Eddie Nketiah extended the Gunners’ lead after a cushioned pass from Odegaard with 21 minutes left to play and with former coach Arsene Wenger watching from the stands, Arsenal move seven points clear, reports Xinhua.
Just like the Premier League leaders, some other clubs too did not show any impact of the month-long break in the action because of the World Cup ahead of the festival season, which...

The former Indian captain knows a thing or two about a terrific win, as he was part of the history-making Indian team which won the Cricket World Cup at the Lord’s Cricket Ground in 1983 under the leadership of Kapil Dev, a win which would change the face of cricket in the country.
It was a final which was an absolute thriller, with six goals scored in 120 minutes, a late fightback from France, not once but twice and then the penalty shoot-out which decided the title winner.
Nearly four decades back Gavaskar and his teammates were rank outsiders against the then high and mighty West Indies, but they pulled off one of the sensational wins in the low-scoring final over the Caribbean cricketers.
The win on Sunday was a thriller albeit on a football field.

Soccer Aid for Unicef 2022, broadcast live and exclusively on ITV and Stv last week from the London Stadium, has raised a record-breaking £15,673,728 so far for Unicef’s vital work giving children around the world the care-free, play filled childhoods they are entitled to.
This record-breaking amount was raised thanks to the generous support of the UK public, ITV and Stv viewers, and The Power of Nutrition who have matched donations up to £4 million, meaning double the difference for children. This figure has smashed last year’s record total for money raised on the night.
The hotly anticipated match took place at the sold-out London Stadium with 54,410 fans in attendance, 10 years on from the London 2012 Summer Olympics. The match ended 4-1 on penalties to Soccer Aid World XI, taking them into the overall lead with 6-5 wins since the inaugural 2006 match. Globalisation isn’t just about lax child labour laws lowering the price of t-shirts; it also has its downsides. Global markets have a tendency to replace local idiosyncrasy with the accessibly bland. Should, for instance, the makers of Sweden’s chocolate Plopp Bar ever branch out into English-speaking territories, they’d be forced to rename their product to something much less funny, and we’d all be the worse off for it.
Murderville, a US series based on BBC Three’s Murder in Successville, is worse off for just that reason. Exclusive: A feature doc on one of Formula 1’s most dramatic moments, the row between Ferrari drivers Gilles Villeneuve and Didier Pironi, is the first project to emerge from Finding Jack Charlton producer Noah Media and Sky Studios’ multi-year partnership, with F1 driver Mark Webber set to exec produce.
Villeneuve & Pironi will focus on an intense two-week period in the early 1980s that became known as ‘The Betrayal.’ The film will feature interviews with those closest to the two men, with premiere date set for late next year.
The teammates were both aiming to win the 1982 F1 World Title but, during the final laps of that year’s San Marino Grand Prix, Pironi passed Villeneuve to win the race while Villeneuve believed the two had been instructed to slow down. This was an unexpected act that went completely against the team orders Villeneuve thought they were obeying and they never spoke again.

Spanning the U.K., France and Japan, the feature-length documentary will also feature key figures from Wenger’s career, and interviews with some of the biggest names in world football, as well as from the Arsenal soccer club’s team of 2003-2004 which Wenger managed and to this day remains the only Premier League side to go an entire season unbeaten.

From a quenelle salute to World Cup controversy, the brilliant short-fuse striker comes with baggage, and this film does a fair job with some fraught material
A galaxy of major names – including Thierry Henry, Arsène Wenger and Didier Drogba – line up to chip in their two-penn’orth on one of the great footballing enigmas of modern times: Nicolas Anelka, the mercurial boy wonder who burst out of the Parisian banlieues but will probably linger longest in the collective memory for triggering a player strike at the 2010 World Cup and flashing the quenelle salute, widely regarded as an ansemitic gesture, after scoring a goal for West Brom in 2013.
But there’s a bit more to this than your standard sporting hagiography: Anelka comes with a lot of baggage, and this film from French director Franck Nataf does its best to get stuck into some comparatively heavy material. We start at the beginning,...

Announced during a panel with Netflix’s commissioning team, the titles will be launching on Netflix from 2020 and will be available in over 190 countries for the streamers’s 139 million members worldwide.
A documentary series, “Move” portrays six contemporary dance choreographers from totally different backgrounds, ranging from the Spanish flamenco to the vertiginous gaga dance, and from Jamaïcan dancehall to American urban and contemporary dance. “‘Move’ will explore the choreographers’ personal histories, chaotic career paths, convictions and their translation into bodies, gestures, grace, sweat, boldness and determination,” said Netflix in a statement. “Move” is produced by Falabracks and Gaumont.

Some 3.4 billion people — almost half of the world’s 7.6B population — is expected to watch the FIFA World Cup that starts Thursday, as the soccer tournament, which takes place this year in Russia, remains one of the world’s most popular media events.
Latin America is expected to have the largest number of viewers, according to research company GlobalWebIndex, followed by the Middle East and Africa, Asia Pacific and Europe. However, thanks to an embarrassing defeat against Trinidad & Tobago, the U.S. won’t be competing in the World Cup for the first time since 1986, a major blow to one of the largest TV markets in the world (albeit one hamstrung by time differences this time around). It’s thought that less than a quarter of the population in the U.S. will tune in to watch any games, and those may be largely expats and those cheering on the Mexican team.

The star of Little Women on her role in the BBC’s Little Women, why binge TV is good for female actors – and the virtues of Arsène Wenger
For Emily Watson, 2017 has been bookended in starkly contrasting styles. She started the year having wild sex in a House Of Commons broom cupboard in BBC One’s hit psychological thriller Apple Tree Yard. She finishes it in a much more wholesome role as much-loved matriarch Margaret “Marmee” March in a three-part Christmas TV adaptation of Louisa May Alcott’s Little Women. In between all the steamy scenes and bonnet-wearing, Watson also turned 50.
The Shakespearean stage actress came relatively late to the screen, making her film debut aged 29 in Lars von Trier’s 1996 drama Breaking the Waves (when Helena Bonham Carter pulled out at the last minute). She won an Oscar nomination for that film and was nominated again two years later...

In Arsenal's latest training session at the club’s London Colney training centre, exclusive footage shows Arsène Wenger talking through new tactics for the festive season – and it’s all for Save the Children's Christmas Jumper Day!
Video: Arsenal Team Cross And Weave
Arsène Wenger has revealed his festive knitting tactics to support Save the Children’s Christmas Jumper Day and can be seen showing off his expert woolly skills with a grin on his face.
On seeing Rob Holding’s disastrous three-armed red jumper, the manager puts his head in his hands in despair before claiming: “You don’t have to make your own sweater to make the world better. On Friday 15th December, join us and swap your kit for a knit.”
This year is the fifth year Arsenal is supporting Save the Children’s Christmas Jumper Day. Arsenal has fully embraced the woolly revolution, with players swapping...

With less than a week to go before the 17/18 season starts, it’s hard to see the Premier League trophy ending up anywhere other than back up north. Though as a born and bred southerner, anything past the Watford Gap service station I classify as north. Which gives me a good chance of being right, as half of the clubs in the Premier League reside up north. So perhaps I should be more specific. In my opinion; the title will be heading to Manchester, now whether that be the blue half or the red, that’s harder to say.
With Manchester City having already spent over £200 million and Manchester United a close second, spending around £160 million, they lead the way in the transfer market this summer. They’ve sent out a clear message to the other title contenders, with only the Champions, Chelsea trying to keep up. Of course the...

After weeks of waiting to hear of Arsene Wenger’s fate, surely this latest defeat is the time he tells the world what he has decided. For me it is clear, he must be calling it a day at Arsenal. He had the opportunity to confirm he was staying after the West Brom game a few weeks back. The fact he left the fans and media waiting by saying ‘I’ve made my decision’ was just a way of biding more time before the inevitable.
The 3-0 defeat at Palace surely is the result in which he answers the million dollar question. It’s all becoming a bit farcical at Arsenal. The icing on the cake was Walcott’s comment ‘We are back to our best’ after taking 60 minutes to break the deadlock against Premier League strugglers West Ham at home, to then lose at Selhurst Park. Brooklyn Beckham, the eldest son of David Beckham and Victoria Beckham, has signed a professional contract with the English Premiere League's Arsenal Gunners.
Brooklyn Beckham Signs With Arsenal
Brooklyn, 15, has played on the youth academy teams, but has now signed on with Arsenal in a professional capacity after impressing the coaching staff, including well-respected manager Arsene Wenger.
“Brooklyn is talented and he has stood out in all of the training sessions and games he has played,” an unnamed Arsenal source told the Daily Star. “He has had other teams sniffing around and it was always going to be a case of when, not if, he was signed up by a big-name club. Arsenal realize he can be a huge talent. They have seen that potential and protected their asset."

Who was the queen of sharp tailoring, who outshone Liberace and which baby eclipsed Harper Beckham? We present the style winners of the year
Donna Tartt
Donna Tartt appears to produce a novel a decade – and 2013 saw her third, The Goldfinch, released. With it, fashion rejoiced along with the literati: the author's razor-sharp bob returned for another moment in the spotlight. It really is a thing of beauty, one that gives the Queen of the Bob, Anna Wintour – and new convert Miley Cyrus – a run for their money. Tartt teams it with a proper look but unlike Anna, who loves a frock, Tartt wears her bob with tailoring almost as sharp as the plot lines in The Secret History. The result is the kind of disciplined, taut and clever style that the rest of us can only aspire to.

Keane and Vieira: Best of Enemies will see the former midfielders talk face-to-face about their combative relationship.
The pair's rivalry dates back to their Premier League football careers when they were captains of opposing teams Manchester United and Arsenal.
During the programme, the retired footballers will relive the most tense, frustrating and important moments of their careers, including the so-called 'Battle of Old Trafford' in 2003.
The sportsmen go on to discuss their infamous argument in the tunnel at Highbury in 2005, when Keane stepped in to defend teammate Gary Neville during a row with Vieira.
Viewers can also expect to hear Keane and Vieira's honest opinions of managers Sir Alex Ferguson and Arsène Wenger.

Arsenal were the big winners last weekend – their 2-0 victory over Liverpool extended their lead at the top of the Premier League to 5 points after five of the chasing six dropped points. Arsène Wenger’s side followed that up with an impressive result, beating Borussia Dortmund 1-0 in Germany on Wednesday night in the Champions League.
The Gunners travel to Manchester United on Sunday. David Moyes’ side were victorious again last week, beating Fulham 3-1 and closing the gap between them and 4th place to 3 points after Tottenham drew 0-0 with Everton. United are coming off of a disappointing 0-0 draw with Real Sociedad in the Champions League.
Chelsea will be looking to bounce back from their 2-0 defeat at Newcastle when they host West Brom this weekend. José Mourinho has won 51 of his 65 Premier League games drawing the other 14 and his Blues are heavy favourites to pick up 3 points this weekend.

The Premier League was well-represented in Europe midweek with Chelsea, Manchester City, Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur all winning. Swansea City earned a point in their Europa League match with Kuban Krasnador whilst Arsenal were the only team to lose.
It’s Arsène Wenger’s side who start this weekend’s Premier League action, at managerless Crystal Palace in Saturday’s lunchtime kickoff. Ian Holloway resigned after Monday’s hammering by Fulham, citing “exhaustion”.
Later in the day, Aston Villa host Everton in a match up that tends to see a number of goals. Liverpool will look to maintain their good start to the season when they host West Bromwich Albion. Manchester United are kicking off at 3pm once again – this time at home to Stoke City.

Luiz Gustavo has admitted he wants to play for Arsenal this summer, with the club hopeful on completing a £14 million deal for the Bayern Munich defensive midfielder this week, according to the Guardian.
Gustavo has been deemed surplus to requirements at Bayern having played second fiddle to Javi Martinez for much of last season, making just 22 Bundesliga appearances.
But having impressed at the recent Confederations Cup, he has emerged on the Gunner’s radar.
And the 26-year-old feels as though first-team opportunities will be even more scarce this season given that Bayern have just signed Thiago Alcantara from Barcelona, and has welcomed a potential move to the Emirates.
Upon arrival in Basel for Brazil’s friendly against Switzerland, Gustavo said:
“My contract with Bayern runs until 2015 but it is very important that I play first-team football to keep getting called up for Brazil. I am in a very delicate situation...

Bookmakers William Hill and Bet365 have made Arsenal odds-on to sign Liverpool striker Luis Suárez by the end of this summer’s transfer window.
William Hill have odds as short as 4/9 for Suárez to join the Gunners before the deadline on 3 September, whilst Bet365 have a better price for those expecting Arsenal to complete the deal, at 5/6.
The latest reports are that Arsenal are going to bid £51 million for the second highest goal scorer in last season’s Premier League (23 goals). The Gunners have been linked with a move for the Uruguayan for some time now, whilst the striker himself is trying to force a move away from Anfield.
So far this summer Arsène Wenger has been unsuccessful in attempts to sign both Gonzalo Higuaín and Wayne Rooney. The Argentinian moved from Real Madrid to Napoli, and whilst Rooney is still currently at Manchester United, Chelsea are the current favourites to sign him,...

With last season’s top 3 finishers changing managers this summer for the first time in the history of the Premier League, Arsenal appear to have missed an opportunity to contend in the title race.
In theory, not many sides can be expected to win the league in the first season of a new manager. Only two managers have ever won the Premier League in their first season at a club – they were the ‘Special One’ José Mourinho in 2004-05 and newly-appointed Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti in 2009-10, both with Chelsea.
Arguably, Arsène Wenger won the Premier League in his first full season in charge, back in 1997-98. He had been in charge of Arsenal since October 1996 the previous season, finishing 3rd.
Following Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement, in comes David Moyes at Manchester United – a manager who has never finished in the top 3 of the Premier League before. Following Roberto Mancini’s sacking,...

New Newcastle United director of football Joe Kinnear gave a bizarre interview to talkSPORT last night in which he appeared to insult the club’s fans before repeatedly mispronouncing names of players and staff.
The 66-year old managed the Magpies between 2008 and 2009 before stepping aside due to ailing health problems and was this week sensationally named director of football at the North East club, appearing to undermine manager Alan Pardew.
And the controversy deepened last night as the former Wimbledon man delivered a shambolic radio interview in which he referred to Yohan Cabaye as “Yohan Kebab” and Shola Ameobi as “Amamobi”.
Then, when asked on his views about the opinions of the club’s supporters in the wake of his astonishing re-appointment at St. James’ Park, he appeared to belittle their intelligence by stating:
“To all the fans who don’t agree with this decision – what do you want? What do they want?...

Although he's no longer with American Mls, he's not avoiding the sport altogether. Yesterday, David returned to the soccer field to train with London's Arsenal. Though David's undecided about where he'll play in the future - he intends to decide within the next month - he's keeping his skills sharp. David asked to train with Arsenal, and the team's manager, Arsène Wenger, says there's slim chance of their signing him, but he's great to have around nonetheless. Arsène said of David, "He always has a good word for everyone. The young English players especially look at him and take his advice on board. He has done the maximum in his career that you can do. Why? Because he loves football. He arrives before training and,...

Arsenal are looking into the possibility of signing France’s Under-21 international midfielder Florian Thauvin, the Ligue 1 side Bastia have claimed (source Espn).
Earlier this week the Corsican club rejected a £2.5m offer from Newcastle United for Thauvin, who actually celebrates his 20th birthday today but the Ligue 1 side seems prepared for further interest from the Premier League.
Bastia are currently 13th in Ligue 1 with a total of 25 points. The Orléans-born midfielder has so far made 14 appearances, bagging 3 goals from 10 shots on target in the league. Club president Pierre-Marie Geronimo has claimed to have had conversations with the Gunners boss Aresene Wenger over Thauvin.
The deal however looks nowhere near completion, with Geronimo reportedly saying;
“We have not received any firm offer from Arsenal and, thus, there is no question of the €5 million reported. This week I have had Arsène Wenger on the phone twice. He expressed his interest in the player to us,...

A huge factor in the success of Arsenal during the late 1990s/early 2000s was the players signed by Arsène Wenger. At a time of less scouting, Wenger was able to unearth some gems at bargain prices from overseas thanks to his extensive knowledge of the European game. These foreigners went on to become club legends and allowed the Gunners to become the preeminent power in England.
Now however Arsenal are struggling through a long trophy drought, but Wenger has maintained the club’s Champions League status on the shoestring budget incurred by the building of the Emirates Stadium. He has done this by purchasing young players from abroad and selling them on for huge profits when they reach their peak. This approach is beginning to frustrate the Arsenal fans and Wenger faces his greatest challenge yet in restoring the team to its former glory.
But, before we get caught up in the “Wenger out!

Manager Arsène Wenger does not seem overly stressed, as the decision to rest some of the senior players suggests.

Chelsea’s veteran midfielder and club icon Frank Lampard could be set for a shock move to North London rivals Arsenal, according to a report in The Sunday Mirror.
Newly installed Chelsea manager Rafael Benitez had hinted when asked about the midfielder’s future last month that Lampard’s time at Stamford Bridge was coming to an end;
“I think so I don’t have all the information and it’s not fair to tell me I’m only here for seven months and then expect me to have an influence at the club over the next two or three years, but I think that’s the case (Ashley Cole and Frank Lampard are leaving) at the moment”.

Jack Wilshere’s return from injury can only turn out positive for the Gunners, as they set to enter a crucial stage of their campaign. The loss to Norwich has heated matters up at the Emirates as Wenger looks for a steady rhythm in performance.
After more than a year of inaction, the talented midfielder makes his long-awaited comeback. “I think the team is hungry and knows that there is no room for complacency and no reason why we should be complacent.” were Wenger’s words to Norwich Evenining News. Even if the loss to Norwich that followed came as a shock, Arsenal seemed to be responsible for the own demise with a lacklustre display at Carrow Road.
The recent injury list at the Emirates has been limiting Wenger’s options, with Theo Walcott, Szczesny, Fabianski, Sagna and Rosicky, all kept out of action. Wilshere however, seems ready for the long run,...

Kieran Gibbs has been in blazing form since the start of the season and turned out to be the perfect solution to the void left by Gael Clichy after his departure to Manchester City Wenger’s youthful and hardworking defensive asset has settled into the team with ease, and even if the spotlight has been on new signings Santi Cazorla and Lukas Podolski, Gibbs his put in some fine displays to add an extra dimension to the previously heavily-criticised Arsenal back line. Last season saw Koscielny and Mertesacker struggle to settle into the pace of the Premier League, while Vermaelen injuring himself at a crucial stage only made things worse for the Gunners.
A few appearances last season seemed enough for Kieran Gibbs’ to give Arsenal fans a hint of his abilities, and it is no real surprise that since the start of the 2012/13 season, he has been starting ahead of the cavalier Brazilian,...

Arsenal have completed the signing of Olivier Giroud. They said in a press release earlier today that they are; “delighted to announce that France international Olivier Giroud has agreed to join the Club on a long-term contract.”
The 25-year old striker completed a medical before agreeing terms at the Club’s training ground on Monday evening. The completion of the transfer is now just the subject of formal processes. It’s believed that he will take the no. 9 shirt off Park Chu Young and lead the line next season.
Giroud arrives from French champions Montpellier, where 21 goals in 36 league appearances made him the French league’s joint top goalscorer last season and also earned him a place in the Ligue 1 Team of the Year.

France cinema has a low-cost blockbuster on its hands – a rugby story that could almost have been set in the Welsh valleys
If you saw a 50-year-old man running naked around the Arc de Triomphe at midnight last summer, that would have been Philippe Guillard. He was making good his promise to run a naked lap of the Parisian landmark if more than 500,000 people went to see his film about life among the rugby people of France's south-west. His assessment turned out to be too modest by half.
Since its release at the start of the year more than a million people have flocked to see Le Fils à Jo, a film which is to its sport and its region as the 1996 British film Brassed Off was to brass bands and the South Yorkshire coalfields: a comedy with soul and roots and humanity, and a deep love of its subject and its setting.

The British, at long last, are showing a healthy indifference to the ways of the super-rich
Did anyone feel for Richard Branson and his Necker Island inferno – sympathy, empathy, anything? If not, why not? The story had all the compelling ingredients. Lightning striking the £60m private island, fire raging through the Agatha Christie-sounding Great House. Guest Kate Winslet carrying Branson's 90-year-old mother to safety. Branson racing towards the burning house, stark naked. Perhaps too much information with that last one. I hope his hot-air balloons weren't damaged.
Here was a story with everything. By "everything", I mean, billionaires and Oscar winners in peril! We'd have lapped this up in decades gone by. Fabulous, brave Kate, and her soot-smudged cheeks, carrying Granny Branson through the flames to safety – wow, it's like Titanic, only hotter.
And yet no one I've come across seems that fussed about the Necker fire. Which seems surprising,...
