London, Aug 10 (Ians) West Ham United have signed Mexico international Edson Alvarez from Ajax Amsterdam on a five-year deal, the Premier League club announced on Thursday.
Alvarez has joined the Hammers for an undisclosed fee after the club fought off strong competition from other top European clubs to bring him to London Stadium.
The 25-year-old is a twice Dutch champion and has made 147 appearances, scoring 13 goals in all competitions, for the Eredivisie club since arriving in 2019.
Capped 69 times by his country, Alvarez has extensive European experience with Ajax and is now looking forward to playing Premier League and UEFA Europa League football with West Ham.
“I am very happy and very proud to be here. Being here in London and seeing London Stadium, it’s amazing. I can’t wait to play here in front of the West Ham fans,” said Alvarez.
“It’s a hugely sentimental moment for me in my career.

London, July 15 (Ians) West Ham United on Saturday confirmed that they have reached an agreement for Declan Rice to leave the club.
The 24-year-old England midfielder leaves the Hammers having made a total of 245 senior appearances for the Club — the last of which finished in glory last month as he lifted the UEFA Europa Conference League trophy in Prague to end our 43-year wait for a major honour.
“West Ham United can confirm that agreement has been reached for Declan Rice to leave the Club for a British record transfer fee,” the club said in a statement.
Having progressed from the Academy of Football at Chadwell Heath, where he began his Claret and Blue journey as a 14-year-old in 2013 before making his first-team debut against Burnley in May 2017, the Kingston-born midfielder has established himself as one of the greatest young talents in world football.

New Delhi, June 8 (Ians) Jarrod Bowen scored the winning goal in the 90th minute as West Ham United secured an incredible 2-1 win over AFC Fiorentina to lift the UEFA Europa Conference League trophy. This was West Ham’s first major continental title since the 1965 European Cup Winners’ Cup and a first piece of silverware since 1980’s Fa Cup.
West Ham made it through the whole campaign unbeaten with their final record standing at 14 wins and one draw.
“This year we’ve gone unbeaten in Europe, which is incredible. Being in the Europa League next season will be a thrill again. The moments when you win at the last minute of the game and get to celebrate with your family don’t happen often. It can go against you but tonight is a brilliant feeling. This competition has been great for us; the players have been remarkable,” West Ham manager David Moyes told BT Sport.

London, May 27 (Ians) Three teams are playing to avoid two relegation spots in what promises to be a nerve-wracking end to the Premier League season on Sunday.
Manchester City sealed the title last weekend, while Newcastle United’s draw at home to Leicester City last Monday, and Manchester United’s 4-0 thumping of Chelsea on Thursday night confirmed their places in next season’s Champions League, while Brighton also ensured they will finish sixth, reports Xinhua.
A home win for Aston Villa against Brighton on Sunday would see Unai Emery’s men cap a magnificent second half to the season by confirming their place in the UEFA Conference League, but apart from that, the drama is centered around the relegation zone.
The way things stand, if Everton win their home game against Bournemouth, then Leeds United and Leicester City will be relegated to the Championship.

London, May 4 (Ians) Manchester City striker Erling Haaland broke the Premier League scoring record in a single season on Wednesday in his side’s 3-0 win at home to West Ham United, which takes them back to the top of the Premier League.
Haaland scored his 35th league goal of the campaign to beat the record, jointly held by Alan Shearer and Andy Cole, after a pass from Jack Grealish put his side 2-0 ahead in the 70th minute of the game. City needed to win to go back to the top after Arsenal’s 3-1 win over Chelsea on Wednesday night.
West Ham offered stern resistance in a close first half, but coach David Moyes will have been disappointed at the defenders that allowed a fit-again Nathan Ake to nod City ahead in the 50th minute from a Riyad Mahrez cross, reports Xinhua.

London, April 7 (Ians) There is another vital round of Premier League matches this weekend, with everything still to be decided at both the top and the bottom of the table, where everyone below 12th place Crystal Palace is in danger of the drop.
League leaders Arsenal travel to Liverpool on Sunday for what is arguably the most attractive game of the weekend. The weekend kicks off with Arsenal eight points clear of Manchester City after playing an extra game, but that lead could have been reduced to five points by the time they kick off at Anfield, reports Xinhua.

London, March 5 (Ians) Arsenal retained their five point lead at the top of the Premier League in dramatic fashion following a second half fightback and a late winning goal at home over Bournemouth.
The Gunners kicked off the match after their lead was narrowed to just two points with Manchester City winning 2-0 at home over Newcastle United in the Saturday’s early kick-off.
Phil Foden, who seems to be firmly back in favor at the Etihad Stadium, put Pep Guardiola’s men in front after 15 minutes, before Bernardo Silva scored City’s second in the 67th minute with a neat finish shortly after coming on as a substitute, a Xinhua report said.

London, March 3 (Ians) A vital weekend in the Premier League promises to have plenty to say at both the top and the bottom of the table, with Arsenal and Manchester City quickly into action on Saturday ahead of a huge game at Anfield between Liverpool and Manchester United.
Arsenal’s 4-0 win over Everton on Wednesday night lifted them five points clear of Manchester City at the top of the table, and Mikel Arteta’s side will expect to take three points from their home match against struggling Bournemouth, who are second from bottom.
Arsenal will know Manchester City’s result by the time they kick-off, as City get the ball rolling on the weekend with a home match against Newcastle United.

London, Feb 26 (Ians) Gabriel Martinelli’s goal at the start of the second half gave Arsenal a 1-0 win away to Leicester City, which was probably easier than the final score suggests.
Martinelli latched onto Leandro Trossard’s through ball to beat Danny Ward, which will have been some consolation to Trossard after the midfielder had a spectacular first-half goal disallowed after a Var review, due to a foul on the Leicester keeper, by Ben White.
Once Arsenal got ahead, they were able to control the play and held into their lead with few problems.
Manchester City remain two points behind in the second after an easy 4-1 win away to Bournemouth.
Julian Alvarez on 15 minutes, Erling Haaland on 29 minutes and Phil Foden on the stroke of halftime put Pep Guardiola’s side 3-0 up at the break, with Alvarez and Foden both answering doubts over why they haven’t started recently.

London, Feb 24 (Ians) The Carabao Cup final between Manchester United and Newcastle United at Wembley means those clubs’ respective Premier League matches against Brighton and Brentford have been postponed. Nevertheless, there is still plenty to look forward to in England’s top flight this weekend.
The round of matches kicks off on Friday night with Fulham at home to Wolves. The home side has the chance to move level on points with Newcastle in fifth place if they win, while Wolves are looking to recover after last weekend’s surprise defeat at home to Bournemouth, reports Xinhua.
That defeat highlighted the Wolves’ problem in attack, with Julen Lopetegui’s side have scored just 17 goals in 23 games this season.
Relegation comes sharply into focus on Saturday afternoon with a series of matches which affect the bottom three.
Perhaps the biggest of those is at Elland Road, where Javi Gracia makes his debut as Leeds United coach.

London, Jan 16 (Ians) Arsenal strengthened their grip on the Premier League with a 2-0 win away to North London rivals Tottenham.
Arsenal’s win, coupled with the result of the Manchester derby, puts Mikel Arteta’s side eight points clear of Manchester City and nine ahead of Newcastle and Manchester United, reports Xinhua news agency.
The game was only 13 minutes on when Hugo Lloris put Arsenal ahead with the first own goal of his career after he palmed Bukayo Saka’s deflected effort from a narrow-angle into his own net.
Martin Odegaard doubled Arsenal’s lead in the 36th minute, placing a perfect left foot shot wide of Lloris after another surging run from Saka.
Tottenham tried to get back on level terms after the break, but with Aaron Ramsdale in excellent form, Arsenal were generally comfortable and results elsewhere mean Spurs’ top-four hopes have suffered an important setback.

London, Jan 15 (Ians) Marcos Rashford’s 16th goal of the season sealed Manchester United’s comeback to beat local rivals Manchester City 2-1 and put them firmly in the race for the Premier League title, just a point behind their neighbors.
Rashford poked the winning goal home in the 82nd minute following a low cross from the right to seal the win, just four minutes after Bruno Fernandes had canceled out Jack Grealish’s looping header, which had given City a 60th-minute lead, reports Xinhua news agency.
Fernandes’ goal was surrounded by controversy as Rashford, who was in a clear offside position had run alongside the ball, before the Portuguese latched onto it, but the goal was given after the Var decided he had not interfered with play.
Solly March scored twice and Danny Welbeck added a third as Brighton beat Liverpool 3-0 to move above their rivals into seventh in the table.

London, Jan 2 (Ians) The Premier League’s hectic schedule continues this week, with another round of matches ahead of the Fa Cup at the weekend. The standout game of the week is on Tuesday night and sees league leaders Arsenal take on third-placed Newcastle United.
Arsenal have shown no ill effects from the World Cup break or the injury to Gabriel Jesus, winning their first two games of the holiday period with some impressive football and a win would take them 10 points clear of Manchester City, who visit Chelsea on Thursday night.
Leeds United held on to end Newcastle’s six-game winning streak, but Eddie Howe’s men have just one defeat all season and will be optimistic about taking something from their visit to the Emirates Stadium.

London, Sep 4 (Ians) Premier League saw yet another Video Assistant Referee (Var) drama on Saturday as West Ham United manager labelled the decision to disallow a late goal for his side against Chelsea as ‘a ridiculously bad decision’ following their 2-1 defeat at Stamford Bridge.
West Ham manager David Moyes was left fuming after their late 89th minute equaliser got disallowed by Var over a suspected foul on Chelsea goalkeeper Edouard Mendy in the lead up to the goal. Moyes labelled the decision as ‘ridiculously bad’ which eventually led to West Ham’s 1-2 loss against Thomas Tuchel’s men.
“It was a scandalous decision today and I have spoken about it probably three or four times already before I have come to you and I just feel as if there’s not much more to say but that it’s a scandalous decision. It was never, never, never anything.

Louis Van Gaal’s time at Manchester United appears to be coming to a close.
After David Moyes struggled to maintain the high standards set by Sir Alex Ferguson, who built the Manchester United Kingdom from the ground up, Van Gaal was given the chance to sit in the throne and bring glory back to Old Trafford. However, it just has not worked out for Lvg.
The former Bayern Munich and Barcelona boss has had success across Europe, but has failed to claim any silverware on English shores, with only the Fa Cup left to play for this season.
Van Gaal did manage to get Manchester United back in the Champions League after slipping out for a year under Moyes, but they did not manage to get past the group stage despite having what appeared to be a relatively easy group for a club like Manchester United.

After deflecting the relegation bullet with a tenuous, six-point shield the season before and losing prized asset Wayne Rooney to Manchester United, nobody was backing Everton to avoid the drop in 2004-05, and a 4-1 home defeat to Arsenal on the opening day only added credence to claims that Championship football was coming to Goodison Park.
But in true underdog fashion, David Moyes’s men defied the odds and bounced back from the Gunners drubbing, won five of their next six matches, and emerged as unlikely title challengers at Christmas.
They kept up the pace with table-topping Chelsea and eventual runners-up Arsenal throughout the first half of the season, but their bid for the Premier League crown fizzled out with the sale of midfield lynchpin Thomas Gravesen to La Liga giants Real Madrid.

It hasn’t exactly been the biggest transfer window for Manchester United: the biggest news so far has been the removal of perceived toxic influence Victor Valdes on loan to Standard Liege. The lack of incoming players has been a frustration, particularly in light of the criticisms of United’s tactics and current playing style, and it’s hard not to think that there was more business to be done this winter.
The reality is that United’s squad simply isn’t good enough or strong enough in depth to have made a title challenge a real possibility, but there are still players currently on the books who Louis Van Gaal should still be looking to move on, if only to change things up.

Most of the talk surrounding Manchester United’s transfer window activity has centred on who they might be bringing in, but now speculation turns to who might leave, with reports in Italy suggesting Marouane Fellaini could be headed for the Old Trafford exit.
Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera (via Sky Sports) are reporting that the Belgian midfielder is a target for AC Milan, with either a permanent deal or a loan for the remainder of the season.
Fellaini hasn’t had the easiest of times at Manchester United since his deadline day move from Everton back in September 2013, with the man who brought him to the club – David Moyes – being sacked, and replacement Louis van Gaal using him as something of a desperation striking option, drawing fans’ ire for the use of long-ball football when he’s deployed as a makeshift ‘number 9’.

Despite signing exciting Dutch forward Jeremain Lens earlier this week, Sunderland seem keen to further bolster their attacking options, having been linked with young Manchester United winger Adnan Januzaj.
Rumours of the 20 year old’s departure have emerged as a result of his slide down the United pecking order, with Sunderland the bookies’ favourite among a gaggle of suitors including Everton and Real Sociedad.
The young Belgian shone during David Moyes’ brief reign at Old Trafford, but seems to have fallen out of favour under Louis van Gaal. Despite being given the number 11 shirt last worn by Ryan Giggs, he was forced to oversee much of the 2014/15 season from the bench, rarely making an impression in the starting line-up.
Sunderland fans will be more familiar with Januzaj than most. The winger scored two goals at the Stadium of Light in 2013, turning Craig Gardner’s opener into nothing more than a footnote.

Manchester United are interested in signing Everton full-back Seamus Coleman this summer, reigniting a potential deal that former manager David Moyes was believed to keen on during his time at the club.
According to Sky Sports, United are yet to make any formal contact, but Louis Van Gaal is a firm admirer of the Irish international after witnessing another season of strong displays.
Winger Antonio Valencia filled United’s right-back berth for much of the 2014/15 campaign and although the Ecuadorian did an admirable job, it has been a problem position for a number of years.
Rafael has been unable to prove himself after months of further frustrating fitness issues, while the likes of Phil Jones and Chris Smalling are much better suited to the centre of defence, despite each having played at right-back on a number of occasions in the past.

Newcastle United are rapidly running out of candidates to take over as permanent head coach – with Paco Jemez and Christophe Galtier both now looking unlikely to fill the St James’ Park hotseat.
Rayo Vallecano boss Jemez is wanted by Ligue 1 side Marseille, who look likely to sack coach Marcelo Bielsa at the end of the season, while Galtier is close to agreeing a new deal at Saint-Etienne due to the fact he has had no official approaches from any other club.
Both had been considered viable and exciting contenders for the Magpies post, but interim head coach John Carver is rapidly looking like the only candidate left standing for the role vacated by Alan Pardew when the Londoner left for Crystal Palace at the turn of the year.

David Moyes has denied that is in line to become the next Newcastle United head coach despite reports claiming he is due to take over at St James’ Park this summer.
The former Manchester United manager only moved to Spain to become Real Sociedad boss in November and Moyes has now stated he is “not going anywhere” this summer.
Reports in the Daily Star claimed Moyes had already agreed to become Magpies boss, and that he would take over the reins from interim head coach John Carver at the end of the season.

But Moyes has moved to dispel those rumours and reiterate his commitment to Sociedad. He told the Guardian on Wednesday:
“I’ll be here (at Sociedad next season). I’m not going anywhere.

Newcastle United continue to search for a new head coach in spite of their fight against relegation – and Saint Etienne boss Christophe Galtier has returned to the top of their wanted list.
The Magpies spoke with Galtier in January after tracking the 49-year-old for some time – and now reports in France claim they are in “discussions” with the Ligue 1 head coach.
French paper Mercato claims the Magpies have contacted Galtier and that they have lined him up as the man to take over on Tyneside should they remain in the Premier League.
Laurent Cipriani/AP
A French League Cup winner in 2013, Galtier has worked wonders on a modest budget at St Etienne and he led the club to fourth in Ligue 1 last season. This has not gone unnoticed with the powers that be at Newcastle, with managing director Lee Charnley and head scout Graham Carr both believed to be keen admirers.

Frank de Boer has once again distanced himself from the Newcastle United head coach’s role – with the Ajax boss’ agent claiming he is “happy” in Holland.
Guido Albers also revealed that, although a number of clubs from around Europe had contacted Ajax about De Boer’s availability, the Magpies were not one of them.
Newcastle have been looking for a head coach since Alan Pardew left for Crystal Palace at the turn of the year – with John Carver taking control on an interim basis until the end of the season. Although Carver wants the job, he has won just two matches since and the Magpies have been dragged into a relegation fight.

De Boer’s decision to commit to Ajax comes just a day after Derby County boss Steve McClaren revealed he turned down the chance to become Newcastle boss for the final three matches of the season.

Newcastle United’s search for a head coach was throw into disarray when Steve McClaren rejected their Sos plea – and David Moyes has become just the latest high-profile name linked to the job.
Former Manchester United and Everton boss Moyes is currently in charge of Real Sociedad, having been appointed in November, and he has steered the club to mid-table in La Liga.
And, according to reports in Spanish newspaper Sport, Newcastle have made contact through Kenny Moyes, the ex-Preston North End boss’ brother, as they look for a Plan B following Derby County boss McClaren’s rejection.

Any offer from the Magpies is believed to be conditional on the club remaining in the Premier League, which is certainly not a certainty given the eight-straight losses they have suffered under interim head coach John Carver.

A knack that fans may have feared was lost since the departure of Sir Alex Ferguson in 2013 but Ashley Young’s goal this week has proven that United’s fighting spirit remains intact regardless of the manager in the hot seat. With the game seemingly set to end in a bore draw, Wayne Rooney harried the Magpie’s defence into a series of mistakes and Young finished tidily into the bottom corner to keep the Red Devils in the top four.
Although it’s true that last minute goals are a regular occurrence, more often than not United are the side punishing defences who relax and feel that the game is finished and the Red Devils haven’t been short of late winners or equalisers this season either. Two last gasp equalisers from Daley Blind against West Brom and West Ham reminded fans of Ferguson’s...

When Manchester United completed the signing of Radamel Falcao in September 2014, it was a statement of intent. It was a message to their Premier League rivals that United were ready to play amongst England’s big boys again, after a dour previous campaign under David Moyes.
Falcao’s capture, at the time, was considered a massive coup. The Colombian had shown himself to be one of the greatest strikers on the planet during his days with Porto and Atletico Madrid, and while he had spent the previous eight months rehabilitating a cruciate knee ligament injury – subsequently missing last summer’s World Cup – there was no dimming the excitement. It was a match made in heaven, for United fans anyway.
As a measure of covering their own backs, United agreed to sign the player on a season-long loan, with a view to making the deal permanent if it proved successful.

After Sir Alex Ferguson left the Theatre of Dreams in 2013, there’s no denying that Manchester United have struggled.
David Moyes would be hand-picked to fill the Sir Alex void, although he underwhelmed many and only lasted a season. The legendary Louis Van Gaal has since taken the reigns at Utd, but he isn’t yet yet hitting the heights that many around the club expect.
Many fans and pundits can see the holes that need filling in the Man Utd line-up, and the general consensus is that Utd are suffering for not replacing established stars sooner, particularly at centre-half and in midfield.
One could make the argument that Utd should be looking at the likes of Giorgio Chiellini, Andrea Barzagli, Bastian Schweinsteiger, Wesley Sniejder, Sergio Ramos, or Lionel Messi. Sure, all great players, all capable of putting in world class performances. But Utd have to...

It seems those reports of Danny Ings signing a pre-contract deal at Real Sociedad might have been premature. Sky Sports’ Spanish expert Guillem Balague has confirmed that the deal is not yet done and that it’s now down to a two horse race between David Moyes’ side and Liverpool, who remain keen to sign him.
Liverpool had hoped to sign him permanently and loan him back to Burnley until the summer, but that didn’t fit with Premier League rules and alternative avenues had to be pursued. The only option then would be to snap him up on a pre-contract – something they will want to do before he goes and scores 5 or 6 more goals this season and attracts a few more suitors.
For now it seems to be a case of choosing Spain or Liverpool; and playing guaranteed first team football on the continent or playing...

Wilfried Zaha’s unfortunate time at Manchester United has come to an end as Crystal Palace have taken up the option to make his loan deal permanent for an undisclosed amount ahead of the end of the transfer window.
The winger had been Palace’s biggest player back in 2013 before attracting the attention of then United boss Sir Alex Ferguson but he was left out in the cold when David Moyes took the reigns and clearly didn’t fancy him as a Red Devil. Louis Van Gaal clearly felt the same way and the player now becomes Palace’s latest signing after the acquisitions of Yaya Sanogo and Shola Ameobi.

Despite his assertion that he wanted to stay at Burnley for the foreseeable future (or at least until his contract runs out in the summer), Danny Ings’ future has been a massive story at the tail end of this transfer window. With his availability on a free in the summer it was assumed that the likes of Liverpool and Chelsea would fight it out to snap him up on a pre-contract and allow him to stay with the Premier League newcomers until the summer to keep them up.
Burnley meanwhile are keeping schtum: they have to weigh up whether selling him now would be more valuable than any goals he might potentially score. But his future beyond the end of that contract might well be closer to being settled now, with an unlikely resolution.

Though their league table has improved in recent months after the disastrous tenure of David Moyes, the Red Devils are still far from the finished product under Louis Van Gaal, and they continue to look vulnerable through defensive midfield and the heart of their defence with David De Gea having to play out of his skin at times. That has to change if the Dutch manager has his eyes on a strong top four finish, and a title tilt next year, and it can’t all come down to tactical reinvention.
Right now, the United squad should still be considered as under construction, even with tens of millions invested in the summer. There are some serious areas of development, and Van Gaal undoubtedly needs to add more goals (especially if the last hours of the transfer window prove problematic in defensive terms). Quite how the manager will prioritise remains to be seen,...

For quite some time, Everton’s reputation has been one of a selling club. While the bigger clubs around them were able to spend vast fortunes on recruitment, Everton were forced to sell before they could buy.
That often led to them selling off their prized assets for large fees and spending the money to fill out a squad that was desperately lacking in quality in certain areas. No deal highlights this more than Wayne Rooney’s transfer to Manchester United, while the club also did well out of deals for the likes of Mikel Arteta and Jack Rodwell.
During the David Moyes era at the club, he was often forced into spending very little money but trying to build a squad that was capable of competing towards the higher ends of the Premier League. It was arguably a job that the Scot did well, with...

The Premier League is almost a quarter of its way through the season, and Manchester United have amassed their lowest points total at this stage since 1986. Performance have been inconsistent as players have struggled to adapt to new boss Louis van Gaal’s new regime, lazily dropping points at the likes of West Brom, Leicester City and Burnley.
The defence has looked ragged, midfield overran, and some of the new multi-million acquisitions have failed to settle. All in all, it has made for an autumn of discontent for van Gaal, and were David Moyes overseeing these sort of performances, the calls for the manager’s head may have reached the same feverish pitch as the mayhem at St. James’ Park.
There was something of a squad overhaul in the summer, but if one presumes that van Gaal has finished with his transfer business, they would be sorely mistaken.

Glorious comebacks, merciless thrashings and heroic victories – Sir Alex Ferguson has masterminded some truly great performances over the years. While they may have slumped to a few poor defeats here and there, they were certainly few and far between in comparison the plethora of wondrous nights of glory that the Old Trafford faithful were privy to.
Whether the United team were steamrollering a fellow Premier League adversary, backed up by the mouthwatering ammunition of Cristiano Ronaldo and Wayne Rooney, or holding out for a priceless victory in Europe, there have been some truly breathtaking performances.
While the performances certainly took a nosedive under David Moyes, and the jury is still very much out on Louis van Gaal and his shaky defence, the bar was definitely set by Ferguson and the myriad of top-notch performances that the Red Devils served up to their adoring public over the last decade.

Manchester United welcomed in new manager Louis Van Gaal with open arms this summer. The club had watched with glee as Van Gaal’s young Netherlands side finished third (against the odds) in the 2014 World Cup. They even demolished then World champions Spain en route to the semi-finals.
One look to his trophy cabinet shows that the 63-year-old has won league titles, European honours and many domestic cups with elite clubs to cement his status as one of the best coaches in the world. But while Van Gaal has won every major trophy in his coaching career, it hasn’t been all plain sailing for the Dutchman.

David moves has been talking to the Telegraph to admit – unsurprisingly – that he’s ready to get back into management should the right job come along. Inevitably, given the fact that the former Everton and Man Utd boss has been topping some polls for who fans want as the next Newcastle boss, the conclusion for some will be that Newcastle is the right job he’s waiting for.
He has said that he would be happy to work abroad, since Britain doesn’t export enough managerial talent to balance all the foreign coaches given top jobs here:
“You look at how well Terry Venables did in Spain and how well Bobby Robson did – they are up there with the great managers and both had periods working in Europe.”

It might be a little strange to continue speculating about who will be the next Newcastle manager when the current one is still limpeted to the job, clinging with the last of his “fight” to the hull of a ship that looks suspiciously close to sinking, but the situation dictates as much. Whether Mike Ashley pulls up his pants, realises that Pardew is not the man to lead Newcastle out of the dross and finally hands over his P45 or not, something has to change at Newcastle United, and as long as maximum effort and dogged spirit are only good enough for seven winless games, the manager looks the most changeable.
And as bookies fall over themselves to suggest that David Moyes, Steve Bruce or Tony Pulis would be the men to take over from Pardew, one manager who had been mentioned in the same breath...

As Dennis Wise continues to beat the drum that Newcastle fans will never accept anyone as manager or owner who hails from the South of England, everyone else pays attention to the actual facts of the situation and recognises that Alan Pardew is no longer the man for the job.
In truth, he hasn’t been the right man for the job for some time, and no amount of fighting talk, or insistence that the team are behind him will convince anyone otherwise: the simple fact is, even if they’re fighting, they’re rudderless and badly misused. And Pardew is the man to blame in that respect; he is unable to pick the right system to suit his players, his tactical awareness leaves a lot to be desired and he lacks the self-awareness to identify the real problems.

Unlike the likes of Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester City and Manchester United, Everton cannot afford to splash huge amounts of money on proven world-class talent. The history of the club is a large allure to many who have joined over the years, but sadly in this modern football climate, money talks.
Despite the fact they paid £28 million for Chelsea’s Romelu Lukaku this summer, that was a result of the increased money the club made from the new TV revenue deal that was agreed this year, and the sale of Marouane Fellaini to Manchester United the previous summer. In fact, the club is forced to often look to its youth academy for the next bright star of the future, with it becoming a club policy to develop young players that can become future first team players.
That has been evidenced across the David Moyes era at the club,...

In fact, the club is forced to often look to its youth academy for the next bright star of the future, with it becoming a club policy to develop young players that can become future first team players.
That has been evidenced across the David Moyes era at the club,...

It’s never easy being a manager newly arriving in the Premier League at the start of the season, especially as the previous incumbent of the managerial hot seat has probably left things a little chaotic. With all eyes on you and little time to make your mark, it’s vitally important to make a strong start to the new campaign.
This season saw the arrival in England of two highly regarded Dutch managers with similar backgrounds: Louis van Gaal at Manchester United and Ronald Koeman at Southampton.
Both men enjoyed success in Holland, each winning multiple titles as manager of Ajax, in between which Koeman served as assistant manager to Van Gaal in a successful two year spell at Barcelona. More recently Koeman took over from Van Gaal after the latter had won the 2009 title with Az Alkmaar, while his Feyernoord team provided...

Everton are one of the most successful teams to have played in England’s top league, having been one of the Football League’s founder members all the way back in 1888. The club has competed in the top division for a record 110 seasons and have won the League Championship nine times, which is a pretty impressive haul for any football club.
However, since the formation of the Premier League in 1992, the club has not been as successful as the fan base would like having struggled financially throughout that period and the early 2000s. The club won their last trophy in an Fa Cup success under Joe Royal in 1995, but the resurgence under David Moyes and more recently Roberto Martinez has left fans hopeful of success returning once more.
Among Evertonians, there is a wide held belief that players who leave the club rarely go on to...

Ever since the Premier League began in 1992, it has quickly become the most successful and competitive of all the European leagues, despite the recent allure of playing in Spain or Germany. With Everton struggling through the 1990s under the reign of Mike Walker and then Walter Smith, Toffees fans were subjected to some truly uninspiring players turning out every week in the famous Royal Blue.
When David Moyes joined in 2002, the club’s fortunes began to rise as he led the club to European qualifications, their famous Champions League qualification in the 2004/2005 season and an Fa Cup final appearance against Chelsea in 2009. His 11 years at the club are widely regarded as successful despite his inability to win a trophy, yet while they continued to grow, the club still managed to have players on their books that the fans would rather forget.
So who...

Louis van Gaal has taken over the reins at Old Trafford in a scene awash with revolution. And immediately, the Dutchman has spent a record figure for Manchester United, and any English club for that matter, dishing out £150 million in a spree that landed Angel di Maria, Radamel Falcao, Luke Shaw and Daley Blind.
The revolution, which was refreshed after the tumultuous reign of David Moyes, kicked off under ignominious circumstances at home to Swansea City. After the 2-1 defeat and following draw at the Stadium of Light, United fans began to grow restless with the lack of premium signings. And it wasn’t surprising since 56 long days transpired from Luke Shaw’s switch from Southampton until Ed Woodward’s hand was forced in a £16m signing for Argentine defender Marcos Rojo.
And then of course an international teammate followed in the shape of new British...

The Sunday newspapers are rife with speculation over Alan Pardew’s future (or lack thereof) at Newcastle United after yesterday’s 4-0 humiliating defeat at Southampton looked to be the straw that broke his back. And, as to be expected, they all carry their own scoops over who could replace him in the St. James’ Park hot seat, though at this stage it looks like little more than pulling names out of the air.
The Mail reports today that former Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez is in the frame for the job along with outed Manchester United manager David Moyes. Currently at Napoli, Benitez usually finds his name at the top of the “next manager odds” lists and Moyes will be linked with every top English job until he finds himself out of the unemployment line.
Those two lead the media favourites for the...

The summer transfer window officially closed for business one week ago today and Manchester United were the most profligate of the 20 Premier League teams, spending a whopping £150 million on new players as manager Louis van Gaal aims to stop the rot.
United finished seventh in 2013-14 under now-former manager David Moyes, missing out on European football altogether, and his successor is hoping to buy his way back to the top with the kind of spending usually seen at the likes of Chelsea and ‘noisy neighbours’ City.
The sheer amount of money forked out by the Red Devils serves as a statement of intent with the new season already underway and fans will be hoping the new charges will hit the ground running, as United have made a difficult start to this campaign as well, picking up two points from a possible nine and losing...

Everton were busy in this year’s summer transfer market, spending almost £40M and smashing their transfer record in the process as Roberto Martinez looks to build on his side’s superb effort of finishing 5th last season.
The Blues failed to sign Tom Cleverly from Manchester United on transfer deadline day as the midfielder chose to join Aston Villa instead, and late bids for Danny Welbeck, Ryan Shawcross and Columbian midfielder Carlos Sanchez all failed, with the latter joining Villa as well.
Regardless of that, some good business was done. Martinez has certainly had the transfer funds that David Moyes did not receive at the club and looks set rival the likes of Liverpool, Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur for a Champions League spot.
Blues fans expect big things for Martinez’s second year at the club considering the wonders he worked last season,...
