The JFK assassination is parodied in 1979 black comedy “Winter Kills,” which has landed a remastered re-release presented by auteur Quentin Tarantino. IndieWire exclusively shares the trailer for the Rialo Pictures reissue here.
“Winter Kills” is a thinly veiled and hyper-paranoiac take on the JFK assassination starring Jeff Bridges as Nick Kegan, scion of a fabulously wealthy and powerful family headed by patriarch John Huston, as a character based on Joe Kennedy. Nick (Bridges) soon finds himself going down multiple rabbit holes while trying to unravel the conspiracy behind the murder of a U.S. president, his older brother.
Anthony Perkins, Dorothy Malone, Toshiro Mifune, and Elli Wallach also star, as well as an uncredited Elizabeth Taylor who plays a character inspired by JFK’s rumored-to-be mobbed-up mistress Judith Exner. “Winter Kills” is the feature debut of model and Australian actress Belinda Bauer.

Jason Collins has talked the talk. And now he's walking the walk. A month after the NBA star became the first active athlete in a major-team sport to come out as a gay man, the pro baller made good on his vow to stand proudly behind his sexuality: On Saturday, Collins marched at Boston's gay pride parade. The 34-year-old NBA center walked alongside Massachusetts congressman Joe Kennedy—his former college roommate—and wore a black Nike T-shirt emblazoned with the hashtag "#Betrue." The parade holds a special significance to Collins: In the celebrated coming-out essay he penned for Sports Illustrated, the NBA star revealed that the Boston pride march played a key role in his...

Edward Snowden, a defense contractor with Booz Allen Hamilton, has been revealed as the whistleblower for the Prism spying project. “I understand that I will be made to suffer for my actions. I will be satisfied if the federation of secret law, unequal pardon and irresistible executive powers that rule the world that I love are revealed even for an instant.”

Many investors weren’t sure what they’d see after February when the streaming music company, eager to control its royalty costs, put a 40-hour-a-month cap on mobile listening. But they liked what they saw in the Q1 report out today, even though the net loss increased: Pandora‘s shares are up 9.3% in post-market trading. The company lost $28.6M in the quarter that ended in April, worse that last year’s $20.2M loss, on revenues of $125.5M, +55.4%. The revenue number beat expectations for $123.8M. And the net loss, at 10 cents per share not including one-time expenses, matched the consensus forecast. Total listener hours were up 35% to 4.2B and Pandora says that ad sales increased 49% to $105.1M. Much of the jump is due to mobile use: The company generated $23.23 in ad revenue for every 1,000 ad-supported listener hours, +29.9%. The metric shows $48.16 for listening at traditional computers, +3.5%. Pandora ended the quarter with 2.5M subscribers,...

Friends! Let me just tell you, I was extremely proud of America today. America made all the right decisions. America picked the pilgrim value of virtue over the more superficial charms of the glittering stage. Even when Benedict Arnold/Carson Daly wore a tie-dye tie, America did not waver. I could recite the Pledge of Allegiance right now. The show started off beautifully with a Telescope voting scandal. I could not understand what happened in the scandal, but I loved Telescope. He was wearing the most beautiful gray suit and reminded me of Joe Kennedy. Welcome, Telescope! I hope this voting scandal unfurls and you become a regular part of these proceedings.Team Blake and Shakira: “Hall of Fame”The best part of this performance is that I am convinced Hi Hat choreographed it! Jason Collins came out as the first gay pro athlete in American team sports via a highly personal op/ed in Sports Illustrated. Collins, who is currently a free agent in the NBA, was immediately welcomed by advocacy groups for the Lgbt community.
GLAAD issued a statement calling the NBA center a "hero," and now organizers of the Boston Pride Parade have asked Collins to lead their gay Pride Week march on June 8. In Collin's piece for Si, he describes feeling regret based on his decision to sit out the 2012 event.
"I realized I needed to go public when Joe Kennedy, my old roommate at Stanford and now a Massachusetts congressman, told me he had just marched in Boston's 2012 Gay Pride Parade," Jason writes. "I was proud of him for participating but angry that as a closeted gay man I couldn't even cheer my straight friend on as a spectator.

Professional basketball player Jason Collins has gone public with his sexuality, becoming the first active male athlete in major professional sports to come out as openly gay.
"I'm a 34-year-old NBA center. I'm black. And I'm gay," Collins, who played for the Boston Celtics and Washington Wizards before recently becoming a free agent, declares in the May 6 issue of Sports Illustrated. "I didn't set out to be the first openly gay athlete playing in a major American team sport. But since I am, I'm happy to start the conversation," he adds.

Collins said it was a long process for him to accept his own sexuality and reveal the secret to others. "Imagine you're in the oven, baking. Some of us know and accept our sexuality right away and some need more time to cook. I should know - I baked for 33 years." He said he's now focused on continuing to do what he loves...

Pandora Media’s down 7.7% this afternoon after CNET reported that Apple is “close” to enlisting Universal Music and Warner Music for an iTunes-linked streaming service. Apple would make it easy for users to buy songs that they like, and would share as much as 45% of the revenue from the ads it sells on the service. That appeals to the music companies even though they’d collect less for each stream than they do from Pandora. Apple wants to strike licensing deals with Sony Music, music publishers and others in time to introduce the service this summer in the U.S. as well as the UK, France, Germany, Australia, and Japan. Last month Pandora CEO Joe Kennedy startled investors by announcing that after a decade at the helm he plans to leave the company after it picks a successor. The stock is up 39% so far this year.

Pandora isn’t afraid of competition from Apple, assuming the tech giant chooses to delve into Internet radio as some have predicted. “We have made Pandora a de facto must-have for any Internet-connected device,” Pandora CEO Joe Kennedy said Monday at an investor conference where he was asked if Apple would consider yanking Pandora from iPads and such if it creates a competing music service. Story: Why Mumford & Sons' Paycheck From Pandora Matters “I don’t think we have any fear of losing distribution on any of the Ios platforms,” Kennedy said. “That would be suicidal for

Washington -- Even in retirement, Barney Frank promises to antagonize the right wing.
The 72-year-old Massachusetts representative ends a storied congressional career in less than three weeks. In a tenure that spanned more than three decades, Frank has helped lead the civil rights debate as one of the first openly gay elected officials, crafted a financial reform bill designed to prevent another global crisis and become a liberal hero for his willingness to clash with conservative critics.
His days on C-span may be almost over. And he has already moved out of his Capitol Hill office and Washington apartment. But this man will not go away quietly.
Frank has retained Hollywood super-agent Ari Emanuel to ensure he is a paid fixture on cable television, the lecture circuit, in bookstores – and maybe the occasional sitcom or Broadway show. He has already sent his agent two book proposals, one offering a recipe...

Washington -- Since Pandora launched its Internet radio service in 2007, it has grown from a startup facing near-bankruptcy to a leader of the digital streaming market. With more than 60 million users in the past month, the company is now estimated to be worth billions, with revenue doubling every year. "On the growth side, it's been a wonderful story," founder Tim Westergren declared at a recent conference. "Our listenership just keeps exploding, and so does our revenue."
It's quite a success for a company that sold itself as an artist-friendly, transformational force that didn't just make radio cool again, but also offered -- through royalty fees -- a potential path to prosperity for musicians who've seen physical record sales plummet. Westergren is a musician himself, and takes pride in championing indies and majors alike. Pandora uses an algorithm that essentially modernized the much beloved free-form radio formats of the 1960s and '70s.

Shares of Pandora were plunging as much as 19 percent in after-hours trading Tuesday after the Internet music company reported a third-quarter net profit but warned that it would lose money in the current quarter. CEO Joe Kennedy also cited the "fiscal cliff" as a concern among advertisers, which is making it difficult for Pandora to accurately predict its upcoming revenue. "What we really experienced over the past couple months is increase in caution from advertisers about macroeconomic concerns -- the fiscal cliff, particularly, in January -- and that really is the difference between what we know now and what we
