Sadly, all good things come to an end. And in the case of the fan remakes of Resident Evil Code: Veronica and Resident Evil Remake, that’s unfortunately the case. The devs behind the project, Matt Croft, Briins Croft and DarkNemesisUmbrella, made the surprise announcement just as the Code: Veronica remake was nearing its release.
The announcement was made on the developer’s discord, where they revealed that Capcom had contacted them and asked for the projects to be stopped. The developers stressed that this isn’t an indication that Capcom themselves are working on a Code: Veronica remake (despite Resident Evil 4 remake producer Yoshiaki Hirabayashi offering the slimmest of hopes).
As for why the fan remakes were cancelled, the devs said that it came down to the use of Capcom-owned characters and the Resident Evil trademark determined. Some have pointed out that the developers had set up donation...
