Spoiler Alert: This interview contains spoilers for “One Last Time,” the series finale of ABC’s“Station 19,” now streaming on Hulu.
For a show that spent most of its time putting its characters in mortal danger, it’s remarkable that “Station 19” completed its series finale with nearly everyone alive and well — except, of course, for Kate (Kiele Sanchez), the newest addition to 19 who never did quite manage to become a part of the family. Kate got sucked up into a fire tornado — a firenado, perhaps — becoming the finale’s only casualty. Despite injuries and burns and smoke inhalation, everyone else lived on to firefight another day, with visions of their bright futures dancing ahead of them. After years of dealing with the harsh realities of firefighting, they all got their happy ending.

How do you say goodbye to a show like Station 19? That’s a nearly impossible question the cast and creative had to answer when crafting the series finale, which airs Thursday, May 30, on ABC. At the start of production, the network announced that Season 7 would be the Shondaland firefighter drama’s last, giving new co-showrunners Zoanne Clack and Peter Paige limited time to figure out how to wrap up storylines and deliver a meaningful farewell for the show’s dedicated fanbase. “We really wanted a satisfying ending. We wanted to serve the show with the honesty and the beauty that has already been the show and pull that forward,” Clack told TV Insider on the Station 19 finale carpet. “We wanted to pull some of the community aspects and pay it forward. We want all of this to continue in the world, all of the good that we believe...

Grey’s Anatomy spinoff Station 19 was canceled so late that the writer’s room had already mapped out the firefighter drama’s Season 7 storyline. “We were very surprised,” recalls showrunner Zoanne Clack, “because Disney had just moved our whole production to the Disney lot, so we figured that they were pretty invested and we would probably have a few more seasons to go. We had fleshed out a lot of what we wanted to see in the season and thought that we could tell this story on a long arc because it was such a short season and we’d tell some of those stories in Season 8. We had to reconfigure what we could tell and what we’d have to leave on the table.” Co-showrunner Peter Paige shares that having to cut many storylines “absolutely was tough. A lot of gold we left in that there river.” With the series end looming,...

Since Station 19’s Ross is heading for a wedding, it was inevitable that we’d get to meet at least some of her family. And in the Thursday, May 16, episode of the sadly cancelled ABC drama (at 10/9c), Lost vet Yunjin Kim makes the first of her two appearances as Jeonghee “Jinny” Lee, the bride’s “full Korean sister,” per the network.
The character is described as being “very cross-cultural, well-educated and living full-time in Korea. She’s a woman at a crossroads and not comfortable with that uncertainty, so she spends her time fully knowing what everyone else should be doing with their lives.

Oh, the irony: In its seventh season, Station 19 is, as the kids would say, fire. New showrunners Zoanne Clack and Peter Paige have done a superlative job of turning up the heat on the Grey’s Anatomy spinoff. So fans are understandably hot under the collar about the fact that before a single one of their episodes had even aired, ABC turned the hose on the first-responders drama, swinging the axe and displacing it from its regular Thursday timeslot. (Instead of kicking off the night, it now ends it at 10/9c.)

As upset as we may be that Station 19 is being forcibly ended by ABC, we can’t say that new showrunners Zoanne Clack and Peter Paige aren’t sending the Grey’s Anatomy spinoff out with a spectacular bang. Take Thursday’s harrowing episode, for example. In “My Way,” a fire at the Space Needle nearly — but thankfully only nearly — did in Ben and Sullivan, who then wasted no time proposing to Ross. (Once he promised never to make her “play or feel small,” she said yes.)

“Station 19” is about to hit a huge milestone, but it’s bittersweet.
Just three days into production on Season 7 of the “Grey’s Anatomy” spinoff, as plans for a celebratory 100th episode were beginning to develop, new showrunners Peter Paige and Zoanne Clack learned that the show had been canceled. Season 7 would be its last, tasking them with not only ushering the show into a new era, but also to a satisfying ending. They were not prepared.
“I was sitting on the floor in my underwear, writing,” Paige tells Variety. Clack adds, “I was on a panel in front of 100 people getting constant phone calls, trying to play it off. I didn’t hear what the actual news was until after the panel.”

Maybe we should have seen it coming, back in Season 6 of Station 19. But when Vic made up “peer-to-peer assessments” as an excuse to check on alcoholic captain Beckett, who she feared was suicidal, we thought that she was just being her usual caring, compassionate self. And at the time, before Theo revealed himself to be an altogether awful boyfriend, perhaps that was all Hughes was doing.

Station 19 fans are already unhappy with ABC’s decision to cancel the series after its seventh season, with many blaming the untimely end on the network’s acquisition of the canceled 911. Now, it seems, that ABC has only dug the knife in deeper by giving Station 19’s usual primetime 8 p.m. Et time slot to 911.
The fact that Station 19 has been on ABC for 7+ years and they decided to give the show the 10pm slot is so wrong. The show 911 should have gotten that spot but whatever everything is about money even though S19 couldve easily gotten the same views as 911 if ABC advertised …

Note: This story contains spoilers from the “Station 19” Season 7 premiere.
The seventh and final season premiere of “Station 19” revealed the fate of beloved firefighter Jack Gibson after he collapsed during the tragic accident at the firefighter’s ball in the previous finale. After performing emergency surgery and saving his life, Dr. Amelia Shepherd (Caterina Scorsone) broke the news to newly-promoted captain Andy Herrera (Jaina Lee Ortiz) that her friend and colleague sustained a life-altering brain injury that will bench him from field work permanently.
The episode, titled “This Woman’s Work,” ended with Jack waking up after surgery and congratulating Andy on her promotion — and asking when he would be back on duty.

Spoiler Alert: The following reveals major plot points from the Station 19 Season 7 premiere.
Station 19 returned tonight, airing the Season 7 premiere titled “This Woman’s Work,” and as everyone knows, this will be the final season of the firefighter drama created by Stacy McKee.
As sad as that is, let’s look at the positives, shall we? There are nine episodes left after the premiere, and there’s a whole journey ahead of us — and it’s going to be a bumpy ride.
Speaking of bumpy, Jack (Grey Damon) is in a really bad way as the episode opens with him in surgery. Andie (Jaine Lee Ortiz) — on her first official day as Captain — of course is there with him when Grey Sloane’s Amelia Shepard (Caterina Scorsone) steps out to share an update, and the news is good overall. Station 19 is gearing up to premiere its seventh and final season tonight and showrunners Zoanne Clack, MD, Mph and Peter Paige have tips for viewers that echo the passionate fans trying to save the show.
“They gotta watch,” Paige told Deadline during a recent chat when asked what else fans can do.
Added Clack, “I’m not sure they can do much more than they’ve been doing.”
Paige continued, “Yes, the USA Today advertisements and the Billboards in Times Square—but they still need to watch.”
Additionally, Clack said it would be helpful if fans would use social media to discuss the episode while the show is airing.
Fans behind the #SaveStation19 movement have gone all out trying to save the show since the cancelation was revealed in December. As Paige mentioned, the group put money behind billboards in New York’s Times Square and most recently this week in Hollywood,...

Station 19 will flame out after seven seasons on ABC later this year.
We’ve known this since late last year when the network confirmed that the 10-part season would be the show’s last.
Given the show’s solid ratings and pedigree as a spinoff of Grey’s Anatomy, one of the biggest TV shows on the air, there was plenty of confusion.
Now, the showrunners are opening up about the changes that had to be made since the cancellation news came as production was getting underway.
Peter Paige and Zoanne Clack were confirmed to take over as showrunners from Krista Vernoff. In a new interview, they told TV Line that their aim upon hearing the news was to inform the cast and crew.
Paige said they beat the news “by like, three minutes.”

Having come to love Station 19 as much as and sometimes even more than Grey’s Anatomy, the series from which it was spun, I approached TVLine’s interview with new showrunners Zoanne Clack and Peter Paige with mixed feelings. On one hand, I was delighted, as I was as eager as any overenthusiastic viewer to find out what they have in store. On the other, I was horrified, as the first-responders drama’s Season 7 premiere would mark the beginning of the end: In December, ABC turned the hose on the show, announcing that its next 10 episodes would be its last.

ABC is checking out of Station 19.
The Disney-owned broadcast network on Friday revealed that the upcoming seventh season of the firefighter-focused spinoff of Grey’s Anatomy will be its last.
“For seven seasons, Station 19 has been a highlight of the ABC lineup thanks to Shonda [Rhimes] and Betsy [Beers’] incredible vision, beloved characters and compelling storytelling,” said Craig Erwich, president, Disney Television Group. “With Zoanne [Clack] and Peter [Paige] at the helm of the upcoming farewell season, we have so much to look forward to, most notably the celebration of the show’s milestone 100th episode.”
The news comes as Station 19 will return for season seven with new showrunners Clack and Paige. The duo took over for Krista Vernoff, who stepped down as showrunner from both Station 19 and Grey’s Anatomy after last season. Vernoff took over for series creator Stacy McKee after season two and better integrated both shows.

Exclusive: The upcoming seventh season will be the last for ABC’s Station 19. The decision, early in production on the season, would allow producers to craft a proper ending for the first responder drama, a spinoff from the network’s flagship Grey’s Anatomy.
Before it signs off, Station 19 will hit the 100th episode mark in Season 7, which was impacted by the double Hollywood strikes. The series has aired 95 episodes to date; its seventh season will consist of 10 episodes.
Boosted by frequent Grey’s Anatomy crossovers, over the last few seasons, Station 19 established itself as ABC’s No.2 drama series behind Grey’s. Over its run, the series also has been lauded for tackling important — and sometimes difficult — topics and recently received a Sentinel Award from Hollywood, Health & Society for its depiction of systemic racism in Season 6.

Staton 19 has been bringing the heat.
The Grey's Anatomy spin-off has made a name for itself and come into its own in the past six seasons, and it has been a positively thrilling ride.

Zoanne Clack, Greg Iwinski and Julie Plec sat down with their fellow writer Beau Willimon for an Atx Television Festival panel to discuss this year’s writers strike and how it’s different than previous ones.
“Back then, we were nervous about what was ahead,” said Plec, who created Vampire Diaries and its spinoffs The Originals and Legacies. “We were concerned about what we saw coming down the pipeline. There was an intangibility to that concern [that] turned out to be quite prescient and, ultimately, catastrophically accurate.”
This time around, Plec explained writers are striking because they’re upset and then took a moment to point out that she has reaped the benefits of a successful career, so she’s speaking on behalf of people who helped her get to this point in her career.

Firefighters and their personal lives will remain a big topic for ABC during the 2023-24 TV season.
The network has officially picked up Station 19 for Season 7 with new showrunners.
In live + same-day results, Station 19 is ABC's most-watched series, with 3.9 million viewers.
The numbers surge when delayed viewing is factored in.
A renewal was never in doubt for the Grey's Anatomy spinoff, but ABC has been staggering out pickups for next season so far.
The series has been a strong performer, and ABC will likely keep the show on Thursdays next season with Grey's Anatomy.
There continues to be some connective tissue between the two shows, which has probably helped both series.

Get fired up: In the wake of ABC’s renewal of Grey’s Anatomy for Season 20 comes word that the network has also picked up spinoff Station 19 for Season 7. But there are changes afoot.
As previously reported, when the current seasons of the sister series wrap, Krista Vernoff will be stepping down from her post as showrunner on both dramas. Grey’s Anatomy vet Meg Marinis was announced back in March as Vernoff’s successor on that show. And on Thursday, the network named Zoanne Clack and Peter Paige — both of whom have previously filled producer roles on Station 19 — the new “chiefs” of the spinoff.

ABC has renewed “Station 19” for Season 7, the network announced on Thursday, along with the news that Zoanne Clack and Peter Paige will serve as showrunners and executive producers for the upcoming installment. They take over for Krista Vernoff, whose departure was announced in January.
“I feel incredibly honored to be entrusted with this dynamic and relevant show alongside Peter. The diversity of the cast, writers, and crew in addition to their enormous talent and dedication to their craft makes this a thrilling adventure to undertake,” Clack said. “We are excited about the stories we get to tell using this worldwide platform and both understand the responsibility of being able to share them as we reach into millions of homes weekly.”
“I’m beyond honored to be handed the reins to Station 19 – a show I love, full of incredible, complex characters, and resonant, important stories,” Paige said. “To get...

Station 19 is set to hit its 100th episode in the 2023-24 season after ABC renewed the first-responders drama series for a seventh season.
The network also has confirmed that Zoanne Clack and Peter Paige will serve as showrunners and exec producers after Deadline revealed that Krista Vernoff was stepping down from Station 19 and Grey’s Anatomy, with the pair likely to step up.
Over the past few years, the Grey’s Anatomy spinoff has been getting renewals alongside its mothership series. However, Grey’s was renewed for its 20th season last month, and Deadline understood that the holdup on Station 19 was the size of the order, which ABC has not revealed. Previous seasons have generally been 16-18 episodes.
Helping this renewal was the fact that the main cast have contracts that cover next season and beyond.

ABC is returning to Station 19.
The Disney-owned broadcast network has handed out a seventh-season renewal for Station 19, the firefighter-focused spinoff of Grey’s Anatomy. As part of the pickup, ABC has installed Zoanne Clack and Peter Paige as showrunners. The duo take over from Krista Vernoff, who previously announced plans to step down from showrunning both Grey’s and Station 19.
With Grey’s having already been renewed for its 20th season, a pickup for Station 19 was all but a formality and hinged only on closing new deals for Clack and Paige. The drama joins such other previously renewed series on ABC’s 2023-24 broadcast schedule as Abbott Elementary, The Good Doctor, Grey’s, The Rookie and Will Trent.
In its sixth season, Station 19 ranks as the No. 1 series Thursdays at 8 p.m. among women 18-49 and 25-54. The show is among the season’s top 10 broadcast...
