“I know this is going to sound crazy but somehow, the past is tied to all this,” says Gavin (Eoin Macken) at the opening of the trailer for the third and final season of NBC’s La Brea.
“I believe if we’re successful, we’re going to save all the people we love,” says Ty (Chiké Okonkwo).
La Brea follows an epic family adventure after a massive sinkhole opens in Los Angeles pulling people and buildings into a mysterious and dangerous primeval land where they have no choice but to band together to survive.
For those who haven’t followed the series from the beginning, the trailer also provides a recap of what has lead up to where the survivors who fell into the massive sinkhole that took them back to 10,000 B.C. are.

“I believe if we’re successful, we’re going to save all the people we love,” says Ty (Chiké Okonkwo) to Gavin (Eoin Macken) in TV Insider’s exclusive La Brea Season 3 trailer. And if you think that’s trippy, given where they appear to be, just check out the rest of the video! It’s fitting that, given Gavin’s “I know this is going to sound crazy but somehow, the past is tied to all this,” the preview also recaps what’s happened thus far to lead to where the survivors who fell into a massive sinkhole in Los Angeles that took them 10,000 B.C. are. For example, Eve (Natalie Zea) is who knows when or where after being pulled through a portal, and Gavin is determined to find her. There’s a double aurora that appears to pull Ty away. Oh, and, of course, there are now dinosaurs,...

Tuesdays are not the same without La Brea.
Although the series was initially billed as a sci-fi sinkhole drama, the series excelled as a family drama at its core. With so many facets, La Brea appeals to many audiences.
Fortunately, we don’t have to worry about it ending just yet. NBC renewed the series in January 2023, and La Brea Season 3 is coming. However, with the writers’ strike, the series’ future beyond the filmed episodes is uncertain.
How Did La Brea Season 2 End?
La Brea Season 2 Episode 14 left us with even more questions. It was one of the few episodes that explored the consequences of time-traveling since the series hadn’t explored that much since Josh and Riley returned from 1988.
While Eve and Izzy returned in time to rescue to save Gavin and share a brief family reunion, the war wasn’t over. This time, Eve disappeared through a malfunctioning portal,...

Distribution deals between theaters and streaming services are a fairly new innovation, though they are gaining in popularity. In March, Apple announced that it would spend up to $1 billion every year to start distributing its films theatrically, and Amazon committed to a similar sum to produce up to 15 movies a year for theater chains.

But Mansa is doing those other streamers one better. According to Deadline, the service — which was founded David Oyelowo, Nate Parker and Chiké Okonkwo along with tech entrepreneur and film financier Zak Tanjeloff, and focuses on Black culture— has announced a deal with AMC Theaters to have its original movies shown in cinemas across the United States.
“A fundamental aspect of our business is to lift up underrepresented voices that have long been left out of traditional entertainment circles and distribution models,” said Mansa Chief Commercial Officer Chris Yates. “With this partnership in place,...

Mansa, a free, ad-supported streaming service centered on Black culture, has struck a distribution deal with AMC Theatres to have its original features and series exhibited in theaters nationwide.
The deal comes as specialty distributors and streamers continue to refine their strategies for maximizing the benefit of theatrical runs, which are still emerging from the chaos of Covid. Exhibitors who survived the pandemic are increasingly looking to alternative sources of content as some questions remain about traditional distributors’ level of commitment to theaters. The unique DNA of Mansa, which was founded by filmmakers and actors David Oyelowo, Nate Parker and Chiké Okonkwo along with tech entrepreneur and film financier Zak Tanjeloff, also contributed to the unusual agreement.

A streaming service that centers Black culture and content is emerging out of stealth. Mansa, which has raised $8 million in seed funding, is led by a group of actors and entrepreneurs that includes Emmy nominee David Oyelowo.
At launch, Mansa’s library includes more than 1,500 hours of licensed content. The platform blends several different content formats in one place: Mansa is a cross between a VOD service, a free ad-supported television (Fast) hub, a social network, and a short-form video app.
Film financier Zak Tanjeloff co-founded Mansa alongside actors Oyelowo, Chiké Okonkwo, and Nate Parker. He told TechCrunch that the platform is a “streaming platform for curated global Black culture” that will be delivered “to the world for free.”
Rather than competing with Black-oriented subscription services like BET+ and Allblk, Mansa is catering to consumers in the Fast lane. It has pointed to a 2021 Nielsen study, which found that Black...

Episode 13 ended with Gavin (Eoin Macken) and his group discovering Moore’s backup portal just as a gigantic lizard attacked. Gavin was thrown aside and landed on a stalagmite that pierced his abdomen. (Ouch.) The good thing about this is that it won’t be Gavin making the plan on how to get out of this situation. NBC’s La Brea season two episode 12 ended with Levi (Nicholas Gonzalez) blowing up the tower. Episode 13, “The Journey Part 1,” confirms the building’s been destroyed but, miraculously, everyone escaped. Only Levi was slightly injured.
Back at the camp, everyone’s dealing with the fact their only way home is gone. Ty’s returned to the fort and Paara, and a bloody nose indicates his cancer’s progressing.
Sam (Jon Seda) holds a community meeting and announces that since they are there for the duration, they need to form a government. Lucas (Josh McKenzie) tosses his hat into the ring – as does Sam – and Judah appoints himself election commissioner.
Gavin (Eoin Macken) is in a surprisingly good mood, considering the circumstances. He’s decided to focus on Eve and the kids.

NBC’s La Brea season two episode 11 is titled “The Wedding” but there’s a lot more going on besides the exchange of I Dos. Episode 11 opens with Caroline (Melissa Neal) and her dad, Silas, going over Dr. Moore’s notes, hoping they’ll lead to a solution on how to send Gavin and his family home. They’re not making any progress and are worried Gavin will turn to James for help. Silas (Mark Lee) regrets that he failed to protect Gavin from James all those years ago and dedicates himself to working on Moore’s notes.
He sends Caroline back to the camp to watch over her son. Seconds after she walks away, Silas is shot. The shooter picks up the now blood-spattered notes and leaves without showing their face.

They have an argument about James, with Eve (Natalie Zea) and Izzy taking the “we don’t trust him” side while Josh thinks if James can help them get home, they should let Gavin work with his dad.
Lucas (Josh McKenzie) remains convinced Virgil had something to do with Wyatt’s murder. Veronica (Lily Santiago) trusts his gut,...

La Brea has been renewed for a third season, but the news may be less positive than we knew. Deadline reports that the NBC series has only been given a six-episode order for season three, and that would likely end the series. Filming of the half-dozen episodes will begin in March in Australia.
Starring Natalie Zea, Eoin Macken, Jon Seda, Nicholas Gonzalez, Chiké Okonkwo, Zyra Gorecki, Jack Martin, Veronica St. Clair, Rohan Mirchandaney, Lily Santiago, Josh McKenzie, Tonantzin Carmelo, and Michelle Vergara Moore, the La Brea series follows what happens after a sink hole opens up in Los Angeles and takes a group to 10,000 BC when they fall through it.Read More…...

Sci-fi shows on the broadcast networks are often cancelled after one season. While they can attract a passionate audience, the numbers are often too small for the series to survive. NBC’s La Brea season two episode eight ended with Gavin stopping the virus upload when it was 99 complete. Episode nine, “Murder in the Clearing,” picks up minutes later with Gavin (Eoin Macken) demanding to know his dad’s plan for getting them back home.
James (Jonno Roberts) claims his team’s on the verge of fixing the machine so it can be used safely. The catch? Dr. Harold Moore, the only scientist who understands the formula, is missing somewhere in 10,000 BC.
If Gavin can find him, then maybe they can all go home. And, it turns out, Gavin’s mom knows Harold and might know where to locate him.
Eve (Natalie Zea) shows up inside the Tower and wants to know why the virus stopped uploading.

The end is (reportedly!) nigh for NBC's La Brea.
The sinkhole drama was picked up for a third season on Tuesday morning.
At the time of the renewal, details were scarce about how many episodes NBC had ordered and, more importantly, whether it would be the end of the line for the series.
Deadline reported this afternoon that the very early pickup was influenced by the possibility of a writers' and/or directors' and actors' strike.
The move means that NBC wanted to get the show back into production soon to have episodes on deck for the 2023-24 season.
Here's the kicker:
La Brea Season 3 will span just six episodes.
That marks the lowest episode tally to date.
La Brea Season 1 spanned ten episodes, and La Brea Season 2 is scheduled to have 14.
La Brea Season 2 is thus far averaging 3.6 million viewers and a 0.39 rating in the demo -- down around 30 vs.
