For almost a decade, Ambulante, a nomadic documentary film festival, has inspired audiences across Mexico through the thought provoking, enlightening, and fascinating films they screen. Founded by Mexican superstars Diego Luna and Gael Garcia Bernal as well as producer Pablo Cruz and Elena Forters.
Their mission is to democratize documentary culture. Since 2005, the non profit has annually organized an epic three-month tour across Mexico presenting remarkable international documentary cinema in areas with limited access to film. Thanks to a grant from the Ford Foundation, they plan to bring the project to the U.S. starting in California, most specifically in Los Angeles.
In order to bring Ambulante to California please back their Kickstarter Campaign. There is only 30 days to make this outstanding event happen.
From Sept. 21 – Oct 4 Ambulante will show a documentary each night, in a different neighborhood in the greater Los Angeles area in an alternative venue and for free.
Ambulante California has already initiated their efforts with recent community screenings of the films "Cesar's Last Fast" by Richard Ray Perez on May 1st at MacArthur Park and "Illusion Nacional" by Olallo Rubio on June 11th at the Mexican Consulate of Los Angeles. Both events were marvelously received by the community and were made possible thanks to overwhelming support from varied sources.
To make the full length festival a reality much more needs to be done and everyone can help.
Here’s how you can help in taking this project from beta to reality:
1. First, check out their fun video and read more about the project on the Kickstarter page.
2. Share the link far and wide with emails and Facebook posts.
3. Pledge your support.
4. Please follow and retweet the festival @AmbulanteCA
5. Please like their page on Facebook and spread the hashtag #BringAmbulante2CA
Ambulante is a collective effort and it will require incredible support to bring it to life. Visit the Kickstarter page Here. There are tons of great rewards!

The professional Mexican football (soccer) league had one of its darkest chapters just last weekend, because of an extremely violent confrontation between members of a firm and the police inside a stadium in Guadalajara. In this country, as in many other parts of the world, a sport like football is primarily a passionate celebration, but one that is so massive (economically, politically and socially) that it, of course, also brings many problems. Olallo Rubio's third documentary (and fourth film in total), Ilusión Nacional, is a take on how the world's most popular sport relates to Mexican society and politics. It is set to be released in Mexico just two months prior the 2014 FIFA World Cup (smart timing, right?) and, indeed, it tries to confront...

Back in 2012, Mexico had a presidential election that eventually was won by the Pri. One month before that election, an Olallo Rubio documentary (Gimme the Power) premiered and it was about the rock band Molotov, but it also worked as a resume of the history of Mexican presidents after the revolution (all of them but two were Pri members). Now that the 2014 FIFA World Cup is just months away, to be celebrated in Brazil, there's a new doc by Rubio coming and, you guessed right, it is about football (soccer). Detractors might call this Mexican director an opportunist and, to be fair, not even Rubio himself can blame them. That said, his documentaries are entertaining and now, judging from the first trailer of...

After being cancelled last year, sadly, for lack of funding, the Latino International Film Festival (Laliff) returns stronger than ever to treat audiences to some of the best cinematic works, of all lengths and genres, created by Latino American filmmakers in their native countries or by Latino creators here in the U.S. This 16th edition of the festival will run from Thursday October 10th to Monday October 14th, and showcases a varied compilation of films from 14 Latin filmmaking countries.
"We are very excited and honored to have this record breaking number of Premieres presented at Laliff," said Marlene Dermer, Co-founder/Executive Director/Programmer of Laliff. "16 years and it keeps getting better because of the films." added co-founder Edward James Olmos.
This year's diverse selection of 62 works includes 28 features, 11 documentaries, and 23 shorts, which represent an eclectic mosaic of styles, subject matters, and experiences. The festival will close with the special presentation of the Mexican box-office smash hit Nosotros los Nobles, directed by Gary Alazraki, followed by an after party sponsored by Cine Latino. The list of films include the Guatemalan feature Polvo by Julio Hernandez or the Argentinian La Paz by Santiago Loza Directorial debuts like Water & Power by Richard Montoya, based off his acclaimed play by the same name, compelling documentaries like Narco Cultura and Gimme the Power, among many others.

Actor Edward Furlong has cancelled a trip to Mexico to promote his latest movie following his arrest on Tuesday.
The Terminator 2: Judgment Day star was detained by police and later released on bail after allegedly violating a restraining order granted to his ex-wife Rachael Kneeland.
He appeared in court the next day (Wed12Jan11) to fight his former partner's demands to increase his spousal and child support payments - insisting he's too broke to keep up with the current installments.
Furlong's family woes now seem to have taken their toll on his work commitments - he has axed a trip to Mexico to promote his part in Olallo Rubio's drama This is Not a Movie, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
The English-speaking movie, which is scored by rocker Slash, is set to hit Mexican cinemas on 28 January.
