Kyle Selby is an Ecuadorian American screenwriter, actor, author, and journalist. Selby was born on December 9, 1994 in Riverside, California and raised in Nuevo, California to an American father and immigrant mother from Guayaquil, Ecuador. He has two siblings - one brother and a half-sister. He lives in Los Angeles, California.
Selby was recently announced as a screenwriting fellow for Film Independent's 2024 Project Involve, an LA-based collaborative filmmaking program that supports emerging filmmakers from underrepresented communities.
In college, Selby studied journalism, which led to him landing a full-time position as staff writer at The Valley Chronicle newspaper in Hemet, California. While there, he accepted a number of additional responsibilities including assistant copy editor, photographer, videographer, and even political cartoonist. Selby moved to Los Angeles in 2020 to study screenwriting at Columbia College Hollywood and graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Cinema Screenwriting.
In 2020, Selby debuted his first children's book, Christmas Isn't the Same Without You; a fully-illustrated supernatural story about grieving loved ones during the holidays, inspired by the real passing of his late canine companion. Selby is currently developing his follow-up - a coming of age, full-length graphic novel which will uniquely blend the genres of fantasy, mythic fiction, and sci-fi.
In 2022, Selby partnered with filmmaker Fiorella Vescovi Garcia to develop Mal de Amores, an LGBTQ short film with a focus on codependency and friendship, designed as a proof-of-concept for a TV comedy/drama series. The film premiered in Los Angeles at the 2022 Hola Mexico Film Festival and has since screened at over 18 domestic and international film festivals including Hollyshorts and Outfest Fusion. The duo are currently developing the TV series of the same name.
