The breakout star of Love Lies Bleeding, Katy O’Brian, is also seeing her fair share of franchise roles. Prior to her latest A24 movie, O’Brian has played parts in projects for Disney like The Mandalorian and Marvel Studios’ Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. She will also be seen in the upcoming Twisters, where she says, “We filmed a tornado movie during tornado season in Tornado Alley.” She would reveal that her character is “a little sillier” than she has been used to, but she won’t go as far as to call it a comic relief role. “I don’t want to say comedic role, and then everyone’s like, ‘She wasn’t funny.’ We’ll say it’s silly and fun.”
Now, according to Deadline, O’Brian is joining the cast of Mission: Impossible 8 as filming continues underway for the Tom Cruise action film. Details surrounding the upcoming...

As last year’s Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning (which has dropped the “Part One” subtitle since it hit home video) wrapped up, we saw that Tom Cruise’s Imf agent lead character Ethan Hunt would live to run another day – and pictures from the set of Mission: Impossible 8 (which won’t be called Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part Two after all) show him doing just that! Cruise running is a big part of these movies and his overall career, so it’s nice to see that Mission: Impossible 8 will indeed have him moving across the screen as fast as his legs can carry him. There’s even some video from the set as well, if you want to see this run in action.

Exclusive: Napoleon star Vanessa Kirby will reunite with The Crown’s Benjamin Caron on a movie based on Willy Vlautin’s 2021 novel The Night Always Comes, about a working-class woman in the Pacific Northwest who embarks on a 24-hour quest to call in old debts and raise enough money to keep a roof over her head.
Netflix has acquired the project for release.
Kirby portrayed Princess Margaret in the first two seasons of The Crown and many of the episodes she appeared in were directed by Caron.
Caron was also a director of Disney+ series Andor. Last year, he directed Apple Studios feature film Sharper, starring Julianne Moore, Sebastian Stan, Justice Smith and Briana Middleton.
The Night Always Comes film is based on a screenplay by Seattle-based screenwriter Sarah Conradt whose credits include Mothers’ Instinct and 50 States of Fright. Vlautin’s 2010 book Lean on Pete was adapted and directed...

Five years have gone by since Tom Cruise announced that Paramount Pictures had given the greenlight to two more Mission: Impossible movies, with Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation (2015) and Mission: Impossible – Fallout (2018) writer/director Christopher McQuarrie returning to the helm. At one point, we thought these movies were going to carry the titles Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One and Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part Two… but Paramount is backtracking from that decision. After Dead Reckoning Part One underwhelmed at the box office when it was released last year, the studio has dropped Part One from the subtitle and has let it be known that the next film, which is still in production, will have a different title. A decision they really should have made before releasing the first half of the story. At least we’re still getting the second half of the story, with the...

This past Wednesday Marvel Studios made a very special casting announcement via their social media platforms. It was a gift much sweeter and tasty than any Valentine’s Day candy sampler. And it’s been in the works for nearly five years. That’s when Disney officially purchased Fox Studios, which finally brought one of the most celebrated Marvel Comics into the “fold”. In the years before the 2008 launch of Marvel Studios, some of their characters were licensed out to several different studios. Sony still has Spidey, while Daredevil, the X-Men, and the Fantastic Four were then at Fox. Dd was brought back in with the Netflix series (and a new Disney+ Maxi-series soon), and Deadpool & Wolverine will rule this July, all the while fans were clamoring for a “new take” on the “first family” of Marvel. Studio head Kevin Feige has teased it at a couple of Comicon appearances,...

Marvel's first family is coming back to theaters after two mixed-to-horrendous previous attempts. Now, Marvel Studios is hoping that third time's the charm when it comes to the Fantastic Four, and we finally have confirmation of who will don the suits. We already knew that Pedro Pascal had signed on to play Reed Richards — following a brief tease in "Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness" where John Krasinski played an alternate universe version of Mr. Fantastic -- but there were several rumors as to who would play the rest of the family in what's simply titled "The Fantastic 4."
Well, get ready, because Pascal is now officially being joined by Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm, Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Ben Grimm/The Thing, and Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm. Like all superhero movies, the film's cast is made up of actors who you have undoubtedly seen before in projects both big and small.

Anyone who has seen "Mission: Impossible - Fallout" remembers the film's big antagonist reveal scene. CIA operative August Walker (Henry Cavill), known best for beating up goons in bathrooms and reloading his muscles, is unveiled to be none other than John Lark, an extremist in cahoots with terrorist mastermind Solomon Lane (Sean Harris). This pivotal scene is preceded by an equally tense sequence, where Imf Secretary Alan Hunley (Alec Baldwin) accuses Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) of being Lark, and the two engage in a heated discussion about the mission and the stakes at hand. While this scene flows pretty naturally after the intense action that precedes it, there were practical reasons behind the zoomed-in focus on Hunt and Hunley's faces, who were seen leaning against the table during the scene.

After taking over the reins of the "Mission: Impossible" franchise, director Chris McQuarrie quickly put his own stamp on the series. From 2015's "Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation" to 2023's "Dead Reckoning Part One," McQuarrie's take on the series has brought it back to its roots in creating heightened, suspenseful espionage scenarios. It's also made the movies even bigger.
The stunts of Ethan Hunt are one aspect in which the series has to consistently top itself. But for McQuarrie, it's also important that each movie embraces a different kind of spectacular filmmaking, something spontaneous and creative that goes beyond simple James Bond-esque globetrotting gunfights and car chases. Because of that impulse, he might have gone too far with a scene in 2018's "Mission: Impossible - Fallout," which is probably why it didn't make the final cut.
The scene in question would have involved the introduction of Alanna Mitsopolis (Vanessa Kirby), or the White Widow,...

Hayley Atwell has been kept "in the dark" about the real identity of her 'Mission: Impossible' character. The 41-year-old actress plays a professional thief named Grace in 'Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One' - but director Christopher McQuarrie made a concerted effort to create an air of mystique around Hayley's on-screen character. The London-born actress - who stars in the movie alongside Tom Cruise, Simon Pegg and Rebecca Ferguson - told Collider: "I asked McQ this and he just kind of looked at me. He gave me this look where he goes, 'Ask me no questions, I’ll tell you no lies.' I wish I knew, but it’s wise that they’re keeping me in the dark, as well, because it keeps me on my toes, too."Meanwhile, Vanessa Kirby recently revealed that she relished the challenge of portraying Hayley's character in...

Vanessa Kirby relished the challenge of portraying Hayley Atwell's character in 'Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One'.The movie features a face-swap between Vanessa's black-market arms dealer Alanna Mitsopolis, aka the White Widow and Hayley's character Grace, a pickpocket, and Vanessa loved playing someone who was "totally out of control".She told Variety: "It was so much fun. It was the first time two women have got to do that. “It was such an amazing gift — because I love Hayley — to channel her and get to play her for a bit, and to get to play somebody that was totally out of control. My character is usually so restrained and composed and in control; it was really, really fun to play someone a bit scrappier and a bit messier. I’m naturally more messy in real life, so I felt more at home in that sense."And, Hayley was...

Spoiler Alert: This story contains spoilers from “Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One,” now playing in theaters.
The “Mission: Impossible” movies have no shortage of death-defying stunts, but the Tom Cruise-starring action franchise is known for another iconic magic trick: its mask reveals.
“Dead Reckoning Part One” features two mask reveals — in the first, Cruise’s Ethan Hunt uses a mask to infiltrate a meeting between CIA director Eugene Kittridge (Henry Czerny) and officials from various intelligence agencies about a rogue artificial intelligence system, known as the Entity. The other is a face swap between Hayley Atwell’s Grace, a pickpocket who becomes embroiled in Imf’s hunt for the Entity, and Vanessa Kirby’s black-market arms dealer Alanna Mitsopolis, aka the White Widow.

As a spy-action franchise, each installment of the Mission Impossible series acted as a stand-alone movie, and the interconnectivity was displayed through character arcs and some of the recurring side characters, much like the earlier James Bond flicks. After director Christopher McQuarrie reinvented the franchise towards a more action-heavy spectacle, a more linear overarching narrative was added in the form of the villainous Solomon Lane and his terror-for-hire organization, the Apostles, which played a major part in the previous two entries of the movie, Rogue Nation and Fallout.
As the natural progression of the established narrative structure so far, it would have made sense if Solomon Lane returned as an antagonist in the latest release, Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning, as he survived at the end of the last venture. Instead, the seventh movie in the franchise introduces a new villain in the form of a sentient AI named Entity. Keeping...

Actress Vanessa Kirby had to raise her game to compete with Hollywood star Tom Cruise during the filming of ‘Mission: Impossible – Fallout’ and the upcoming film ‘Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One’.
The ‘Crown’ actress had to become fitter than ever to keep up with Tom Cruise, who is 26 years her senior, in the latest ‘Mission: Impossible’ film, reports ‘Mirror.co.uk’.
Vanessa, 35, reprises her role as arms dealer the White Widow in ‘Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One’, out this week. And she joked: “Tom is the best runner in the world, so if you are suddenly asked to run next to him, you can’t be flagging behind like I was at sports day at school. You have to really step up and be ready. But the physical aspect of the role is a very beautiful gift because you have to learn about your physicality.

Sooner or later, Ethan Hunt will face a mission he really ought not to accept. But for the time being, he remains the one man on Earth willing to attempt the impossible without questioning the motives of those who require his services. That’s the deal with America’s most dutiful Boy Scout, Tom Cruise, who’s carried the billion-dollar “Mission: Impossible” franchise across 27 years without losing steam. Compare that with Indiana Jones, who’s failed to connect with a younger generation, or the “Fast and Furious” movies, which aren’t running out of gas so much as guzzling the laughing sort.
“Mission: Impossible — Dead Reckoning Part One” finds Cruise, now in his 60s, still running from one side of a very big, very wide screen to the other as if his life — and the lives of all 8 billion people on the planet — depended on it. This is Hunt’s seventh blockbuster outing,...

Is Tom Cruise our last bonafide movie star? Or at least one of the few remnants of an elite group of big-screen heartthrobs who leave us saying, “They don’t make ‘em like they used to?” We’ve heard several versions of this question asked again and again over the years, especially on the heels of 2022’s astonishing and disarmingly nostalgic “Top Gun: Maverick,” a heart-swelling legacy-quel that deservedly re-established and reinforced Cruise’s status as a dying breed of larger-than-life screen hero.
While it might be futile to ponder the same query once more, that doesn’t mean Cruise is done reminding us why there won’t be another one after him to burn just as brightly. And that’s not only because of our era of scattered eyeballs and shortened attention spans that sadly deems the all-encompassing brand of “movie star” nearly obsolete. The short of it is,...

Los Angeles, May 12 (Ians) Actress Vanessa Kirby, who reprises her role as the White Widow in ‘Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One’, says she was on set when actor Tom Cruise parachuted from a motorcycle after riding it off a cliff in Iceland for the eighth installment of “M:i.”
“He did it many times in one day,” recalls Kirby, reports Variety.
“He did it consecutively … and repeatedly so he could capture all the different angles and sides of it.”
If Cruise was nervous, he sure didn’t show it.
“He was just so calm,” Kirby says.
“He had no fear. He just found it exhilarating. That kind of belief in cinema and what one could achieve and his passion for it is so inspiring. He kind of believes he can do the impossible and then he does…I love being a part of the franchise. I’m really excited to come back.
