So the Jack Ryan franchise has been rebooted more times than Charlie's Angels and Batman combined, and seemingly to diminishing returns. Not saying there haven't been really good films in Ryan's oeuvre (especially the first three - the one with Alec Baldwin and the two with Harrison Ford), but the last two (with Ben Affleck and Chris Pine) weren't as good. And after the financial disappointment of Jack Ryan: Shadow... Read More...

Now that Warner Bros. and DC have a Joker origin film in the works with Martin Scorsese as producer, it looks like they are eyeing one of the biggest stars in Hollywood, Leonardo DiCaprio. Sounds awesome right? Well that’s the plan at least.
Reports say that there is no offer on the table yet for DiCaprio to play Batman’s most famous nemesis but that WB will use Scorsese as bate to reel in the Oscar-winning actor. Funny enough is that THR‘s sources say that the deal for Scorsese to produce the film “isn’t even done yet.”
If all happens to workout, remember this is Hollywood so it’s a big If, this will mark the sixth time the dynamic duo of DiCaprio and Scorsese have come together. The two have worked together on films such as Gangs of New York, The Aviator, The Departed, Shutter Island...

Making Aquaman cool is a tricky job. Generally known for being squeaky-clean, blonde-haired and blue-eyed, and possessing the questionably useful superpower of being able to talk to fish (and breath underwater), for much of his existence, the character has been the butt of the joke.
Jason Momoa intends to flip that perception around however and drag Aquaman back into the superhero A-list alongside Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman. In a ludicrously manly photoshoot and interview with GQ (He climbs mountains! He rides motorbikes! He throws arrows!), the actor explained that he’s going to set the tone for the character.
We’ve never really seen anything from this guy before, so it’s fun to have a level playing field. There aren’t like four Aquamans before me. I get to set the tone for it.
He’s got a point when it comes to the big screen, but the...

In addition to his stellar work on Supergirl, Steve Orlando has everyone talking about his upcoming series, Justice League of America. Spinning directly out of the events of Justice League vs. Suicide Squad, it could be argued that it’s the most anticipated new book from DC to be released in the first quarter of 2017.
Uniting with possibly the best penciler-inker combination in the industry today in Ivan Reis and Joe Prado, Orlando brings together one of the most eclectic and interesting lineups to ever grace a team-up book from this publisher: Batman, Lobo, Black Canary, the Ray, the Atom, Vixen and Killer Frost. To be quite honest, you wouldn’t have to even tell me what the story entails and I would be sold on that knowledge alone.

Oscar qualifying runs are a funny thing. Sometimes, they enhance a film’s stature and chance at awards love. Other times, they wind up creating unrealistic expectations and hurting more than they help. That seems to be the case with Ben Affleck’s fourth film behind the camera, the period gangster tale Live by Night. Created to be mainstream entertainment and exercise some genre muscle, it wound up becoming a perceived Academy Award X factor (partly due to people like me). The response hasn’t indicated a work worthy of that, but a campaign is nonetheless in motion. The movie will make money in January, but it opened yesterday hoping to make up some ground in the awards race. In case you forgot, the film is an adaptation of the Dennis Lehane novel of the same name. It’s the second time that Affleck has gone to Lehane for inspiration,...

Arguably, television shows that were originally major motion pictures don’t really cut it. They never seem to be able to live up to the original. And, for every single one that is better than the movie, there are ten that aren’t even close. Today’s entertainment trend also seems to be just the opposite, as in TV shows turned into movies like “Sex in the City”, “21 Jump Street” and the sequel, “The A-Team”, “The Brady Bunch”, “Dragnet”, “Dr. Who”, “The Dukes of Hazzard”, and my favorite “Entourage”. In addition, “Star Trek”, “The Fugitive”, “Mission Impossible”, “Charlie’s Angels”, “Batman” and “Superman”

The Arrow season 5 premiere is action-packed and feels like a return to the heights of season one in all the best ways...
This review contains spoilers.
5.1 Legacy
I’m going to start this review by saying that Arrow’s season premieres are usually great, and it’s in the execution of their ideas across the season that oftentimes causes the show to lose its way. This episode is particularly good and, while there's every chance that its promise will be utterly squashed by mid-season, I choose optimism.
A couple of issues remain – the flashbacks are still there for some reason – but this really felt like a throwback to the show’s first season in the best ways. We’re focused on Oliver (not Oliver’s love life), most of the supporting characters get moments of their own, and Star City feels like a real place again.

Twenty years ago this week - Feb. 9, 1996 - the romcom-dramedy Beautiful Girls first opened in theaters. The film centers around Willie (Timothy Hutton), who returns home for his high school reunion in a small Massachusetts town. It's funny, it's heartwarming, and it features one of the better ensemble casts of the 1990s. In honor of the film's 20th anniversary, we're pulling out the yearbook and looking up the film's cast to what they've been up to over the past 20 years. Timothy HuttonHutton won Best Supporting Actor in 1981 for Ordinary People when he was only 20. To this day he's the youngest-ever...

Our host for tonight is Ronda Rousey, who has won a lot of medals and championships for being Very, Very Strong. Like, seriously. She could knock you out in a second. It is a little terrifying, but also inspiring in a “You go, girl” kind of way. And now she’s got a burgeoning acting career, with roles in The Expendables 3, Furious 7, and Entourage 1 and God Willing Only. She will make her comedy debut in the upcoming Do Nothing Bitches, based on a script by Sisters writer Paula Pell in which Rousey plays a bootcamp instructor putting suburban housewives, one of which is played by Tina Fey, in their place. Tonight seemed to be Rousey’s chance to prove her comedy chops, but she honestly didn’t get much of a chance-- she only truly starred in one sketch, and made minimal to no appearances in all of the others.

Let’s just get this out of the way, kiddos. I know ComicMix is a site built on the back of the abundance of comic book geek culture that is out there to cover and pontificate on. But I imagine all of you reading my column this week are likely nursing a hangover from catching Star Wars: The Force Awakens for the eighth time.
I tend to write my articles a few days before we post it up here on ComicMix. It just so happened on the evening I was penning this article, I put the Republican presidential debate on my second screen. I wanted to write about Batman, or Deadpool, or something heroic. Instead, I find myself with villains on the brain.
Make no mistake: I’m as left as left can go. In college – prior to watching The West Wing – I was more or less a moderate. I...

Blazing a trail in 1995, Hackers tackled web culture on screen before the internet really took off. The cyber-thriller helped kick-start the career of a major Hollywood A-lister and swiftly became a cult classic thanks to its Hacker Manifesto.
As Hackers celebrates its 20th birthday today (September 15), here's what happened to the six stars who made up the cyber-punk crew.
Angelina Jolie
Hackers handle: Acid Burn
In 1995, Jolie was a fast-rising 20-year-old actress with Cyborg 2 and some big music videos (including Meat Loaf, Lenny Kravitz and The Lemonheads) on her CV. New York Times critic Janet Maslin was non too plussed about Jolie's performance, saying of her character: "Kate stands out. That's because she scowls even more sourly than [her co-stars] and is that rare female hacker who sits intently at her keyboard in a see-through top."
Now, the 40-year-old is an Oscar-winning superstar with humanitarian work spanning more than a decade and...
