After spending nearly a decade generating buzz with mixtapes and singles, Bad Gyal is ready for her next big move. At the beginning of the year, the Barcelona-based star released her debut album La Joia, which is Catalan for the “The Jewel.” On the adventurous LP, she explored genres like dancehall, reggaeton, Brazilian funk, and house music while subverting the male-dominated urbano space with big femme energy.
“I like the concept that a jewel comes from a dirty, hard space, but then you work on it, you cut it, and...

Recently, the masterminds behind reggaeton's biggest stars and hitmakers have been coming into their own as artists. Last year, music producer Dímelo Flow released his debut album, "Always Dream." In June, producer Tainy also dropped his debut album, "Data." And now, Sky Rompiendo (real name Alejandro Ramírez Suárez) - one of the most in-demand Latin music producers of the past decade and the genius behind artists like J Balvin, Karol G, Maluma, and Feid - is shifting his focus from working behind the scenes to creating his own record. It's a move that has been long in the making, but for Rompiendo, the timing has been everything.
"I was inspired by all these producers like Pharrell, Timbaland, and Scott Storch - that whole movement of them eventually putting their faces up front and being more present in the scene versus not just always being behind the scenes," Rompiendo tells Popsugar.

Music mogul Dr. Dre has been making hit records since his time in the N.W.A. But one of his most highly anticipated albums, Detox, never saw the light of day. And Dre’s inability to complete the record once made him second-guess himself as an artist.
Dr. Dre spent years working on ‘Detox’ Dr. Dre | Mike Coppola/FilmMagic
Detox was supposed to be Dre’s third solo studio album after his highly successful sophomore feature 2001. The album was going to feature several well-known hip-hop artists at the time. Some of his own signed artists like 50 Cent and Eminem would also contribute to Detox.
Dre aimed to make Detox stand out from his previous albums by telling a coherent story on the record. Rumors floated around at the time that Detox would be inspired by the film Training Day, which he had a small role in.

Dr. Dre and his legal team have taken action against Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene after she used the “Still D.R.E.” instrumental in a self-promotional video shared Monday, Jan. 9.
The objectively goofy clip pairs the “Still D.R.E.” beat — which Dre produced with Mel-Man and Scott Storch —with some slo-mo clips of Greene not exactly working hard but walking around the halls of Congress. There’s also some footage of Greene taking a phone call from “Dt” (yeesh) and celebrating the end of Kevin McCarthy’s abject humiliation...

In 2002, Christina Aguilera shed her teen pop princess image to reveal something dirtier, rougher, rawer and realer through Stripped, her fourth studio album known for singles like “Dirrty” and “Fighter.” The LP, which celebrates its 20th anniversary today, saw the then-21-year-old maturing her sound and public image fast, darkening her previously platinum blonde hair, and taking control of her sexuality.
“The music I was making on my first album, I was still very much under the thumb of a lot of older men and women,” Aguilera says of her early carer experience.

She also claimed Best Pop Album (“Evermore”) and Best Music Video (“Willow”). That gives her 11 total wins over just two years of the GDMAs.

How does someone like Ariana Grande follow one of pop’s greatest, boldest break-up albums? With a horny, campy collection of R&b slow jams, of course.

Lush yet still head-rattling, simple but deceptively complex, horny and consensual: There are few songs in existence better than “Back That Azz Up.” Juvenile’s 1999 song has it all — the New Orleans rapper kindly requesting his paramour “back that ass up” instead of demanding it, a blistering Lil Wayne feature, and, just as importantly, a galaxy-rich Mannie Fresh beat. Udpated: The story of Tekashi 6ix9ine is a bizarre one: the Brooklyn rapper allegedly affiliated himself with a gang for street credibility, and then found himself extorted and kidnapped by them, is now in prison for his involvement with their crimes, and cooperated with police to convict them.
Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson thinks it will make for great TV, and so will the legal dramas of other celebrities, including himself: the rapper-actor-entrepreneur has inked a deal for a scripted docuseries on such subjects called “A Moment in Time” that will be produced by him through his production company G-Unit Film & Television, a rep confirms to Variety — adding that there will be episodes on “many more” celebrities as well. In so many ways, Dr. Dre’s new album, Compton: A Soundtrack, is a pleasant surprise. First, there is the fact that it exists at all. Before last week, the phrase “the forthcoming Dr. Dre album” was a punch line in and of itself, thanks to the good doctor’s mythically delayed, over-ten-years-in-the-making third album, which, since 2001, was set to be called Detox. As the years went by, the expectations became more impossible and the hype more biblical (in 2004, Dre’s onetime co-producer Scott Storch called it “the most advanced rap album musically and lyrically we’ll probably ever have a chance to listen to”), so it was something of a relief when Dre finally announced on Beats 1 last week that he’d scrapped Detox for the supremely humanizing reason that “it just wasn’t good.”But, in the same breath, he confirmed that he had a new record on...

Rapper and record label exec Birdman is settling into his new, ginormous Miami Beach mansion.
The co-founder of Cash Money Records -- home to Nicki Minaj, Lil Wayne and Drake -- purchased the Palm Island pad in late September for $14.2 million, TMZ reports.
70 Palm Avenue was previously owned by record producer and former The Roots keyboardist Scott Storch, who lost his self-proclaimed "drug den" to foreclosure in 2010.
The 9-bedroom, 17-bathroom pad was the home base from which hip-hop's most unlikely white boy blew $30 million dollars in six months -- a great deal of it straight up his nose, and the rest on trips and toys. "I didn't need a 117-foot boat," he later admitted.
It was then snatched up by RockStar energy drink inventor Russel Weiner for just under $7 million.
Located on the exclusive Palm Island, Birdman's new mansion boasts a below-ground pool, elevator, and a private dock with ocean access.

Here's a challenge: place all of Chauncey "Hit-Boy" Hollis' beats in a single playlist, take a listen and try to find some common threads. Besides the name in the production credits, there aren't too many sonic similarities in Hit-Boy's celebrated productions.
"That's been my whole thing ever since I started producing," Hit-Boy told Mixtape Daily of his musical diversity. "I look up to Scott Storch, like when he came out he was doing Beyoncé, he was doing Chris Brown, he was doing Fat Joe. None of his music sounded alike, but it just sounded like the highest echelon of that genre, and that's what I want to do."

We previously reported that rapper Dmx has had his prison sentence extended by 30 days due to multiple infractions behind bars, and sadly this comes as no surprise considering his many brushes with the law.
Dmx first stormed the rap music scene with his loud bark and “don’t f**k with me” attitude in the late 1990s. In a feat that had only been done by Tupac, Dmx released two number one albums in the same year, with his debut in May of ’98 and follow-up that December (which stayed at No. 1 for 3 weeks). X soon joined the trend of moonlighting as an actor and appeared in a few notable films as well. After five number one albums in a row, his streak was broken when 2006’s Year of the Dog… Again failed to achieve the same success (although, it did hit number two).
