One year ago, it was announced that the Netflix streaming service had renewed the serial killer thriller series You for a fifth season, which will also be the final one. We know Penn Badgley is coming back for You season 5 as the lead character Joe Goldberg, and it’s probably a good bet that season 4’s Charlotte Ritchie will continue to have a prominent role in this final season. It has previously been announced that Madeline Brewer of The Handmaid’s Tale will have a series regular role in the new batch of episodes, and now Variety has broken the news that Anna Camp of the Pitch Perfect films and Griffin Matthews of The Flight Attendant have also been cast in series regular roles.
Camp will actually be playing two different characters, as she has been cast as both Raegan and Maddie Lockwood, twin sisters-in-law to Joe Goldberg. Here are their descriptions: “Raegan is the cunning,...

Joe Goldberg (Penn Badgley) is a touch defensive as he ushers us into You Season 4. After leaving a trail of devastation across America, he swears he’s going to lay low and avoid romance in his new home of London. Joe’s new mantra is “No love. No people. Just books.” Then he looks out his window and his resolve to be an introvert is gone. All that remains is his crush on Kate Galvin, portrayed by Feel Good dream girl Charlotte Ritchie.
In Part 1, their complicated attraction blossoms. On the one hand, Joe’s hunt for the Eat the Rich Killer is keeping them apart. But, Kate’s own standoffishness and suspicion is its own romantic obstacle. “I had a feeling that there was something deeper in her,” Ritchie tells Tudum. “There’s something in her hatefulness that is so self-hating. It feels very much like it’s a...

One year ago, it was announced that the Netflix streaming service had renewed the serial killer thriller series You for a fifth season, which will also be the final one. While executive producers Greg Berlanti and Sarah Schechter said that You was always intended to be a “five season journey”, showrunner Sera Gamble decided not to guide the journey to its conclusion. Although she remains attached as an executive producer, she has passed showrunner duties over to fellow executive producers Michael Foley and Justin W. Lo. Thankfully, Foley and Lo are no strangers to You. They have been working on the series since season 1 and season 2, respectively. Now You season 5 is gearing up for production, and Deadline reports that Madeline Brewer – whose credits include The Handmaid’s Tale, Orange Is the New Black, and the horror film Cam – has joined the cast.

Penn Badgley discussed what it’s like filming sex scenes for Netflix’s You, and his comments have shed new light on what it’s like for male actors in the industry. While some may consider it just part of the job, Badgley disagrees, calling that aspect of his work “very disturbing.”
Penn Badgley wishes he didn’t have sex scenes
Badgley, who plays Joe Goldberg on Netflix’s beloved psychological thriller You, recently opened up to Variety about what he considers a major pitfall of acting. Despite filming his fair share of sex scenes throughout his career, they still make him uncomfortable.
“There’s almost nothing I could say with more consecration. That aspect of Hollywood has always been very disturbing to me — and that aspect of the job, that mercurial boundary — has always been something that I actually don’t want to play with at all.”
As Joe Goldberg,...

If you watched the full-circle finale of “You” Season 4, you probably said to yourself, “They’re setting up next season to be the last.” Your hunch has been confirmed: Netflix has officially renewed the psychological thriller series for a fifth and final season.
Season 5 will find a new pair of showrunners taking the reins as Sera Gamble, who developed the show with superproducer Greg Berlanti, steps away to work on other projects. Michael Foley and Justin W. Lo, who have been with the show for multiple seasons and achieved the rank of executive producers, will take over day-to-day operations. Gamble will remain an executive producer.
“You became an instant sensation on Netflix with a resounding cultural impact that has grown season over season,” Netflix scripted series VP Peter Friedlander said in a statement. “We’re excited — and a bit terrified — to see how it all ends for Joe Goldberg, but...

Season 4 of You felt different to watch for multiple reasons. One is that Joe Goldberg (Penn Badgley) had a different type of relationship. Badgley explained why things feel so different with Kate Galvin (Charlotte Ritchie).

Season 4 shows Joe living as professor Jonathan Moore in England. The first few episodes show Joe stalking Kate more out of necessity to find a killer than because of his own affection. But the season ends with them sharing their deepest secrets with each other.
Kate inherits her father’s wealth and uses it to protect Joe. They are supposedly going to focus on philanthropy.
“Kate is interesting because there’s a different side to Joe coming out,” Badgley said on Podcrushed. “So let’s–so...

When we first meet Kate Galvin, the frosty English heiress at the center of You Season Four, she is reclined on the couch, pleasuring herself. Her neighbor Joe (Penn Badgley), once again assuming the role of Peeping Tom, is so entranced by the performance he burns his tea. In lieu of seeing things to completion, he throws on a coat and scarf, and goes for a stroll. What in the hell has happened to our sexy, sardonic serial killer? This isn’t the same uncontrollably horny weirdo who beat off on a city sidewalk,...

By this point, it’s pretty clear Joe Goldberg is the problem.
You, Netflix’s beloved murder-comedy staple, follows a simple pattern for viewers to latch on to. Joe (Penn Badgley) is an angst-ridden killer who just can’t stop meeting women and then stalking, trapping, and eventually murdering them. But he’s hot, so not only does he get away, but the end of each season has seen him successfully survive and remerge in another unsuspecting community ripe for the taking.
