Such agreements are now coming to the podcasting business as Campside Media, the company behind the successful Chameleon franchise, has struck a trio of deals.
The business has closed deals with Believe Her creator Justine van der Leun, Sam Mullins, who is behind Wild Boys and Dr. Dante, and Sean Flynn, the man behing The Bering.
It marks a shift in direction for the relatively nascent audio medium, giving a podcast studio such as Campside a first look at projects that may have previously been shopped around, and giving creators an element of stability that hasn’t traditionally been present in podcasting.

However, in a new twist, the company is also simultaneously developing a television adaptation and has teamed up with Jeremy Miller and Daniel Cohn, who have worked on shows such as Ally McBeal and Entourage, to pen the small-screen adaptation.
The Michigan Plot details exactly what happened beyond the initial headlines that told the world the FBI had narrowly thwarted a kidnapping attempt against the governor of Michigan. Exclusive: Campside Media, the company behind Chameleon: The Hollywood Con Queen podcast, has found another wild story to tell in audio form – this time featuring NASCAR, true crime, and civil rights.
The Sister-backed company has teamed with sports broadcaster Dan Patrick and iHeartRadio on Running Smoke.
The series, which is hosted by journalist Rajiv Golla, follows the colorful saga of Derek White, a native of the Kahnawake reservation, who made his professional racing debut in 2015 as the first indigenous driver to race at NASCAR. Less than a year later, White was banned from the racing after being arrested in one of the largest tobacco smuggling busts in Canadian history when a border sting erupted and ensnared everyone in its path. Now, White is fighting to clear his name in court and stands as a very unlikely native rights warrior — at the center of a sovereignty fight he never really wanted in the first place.

Apple has named its second original podcast -- and officially premiered its first.
The hardware giant will tackle opioids and bank robbery in Hooked, which is produced by Campside Media -- the studio behind Chameleon: Hollywood Con Queen, Deadline reports.
In April, it was reported that the company was readying a series about magicician duo Siegfried & Roy -- the first original show not tied to one of its existing Apple TV+ series. That said, Hooked marks the first show to debut on its podcast platform.
Hooked is a biography of Tony Hathaway, who became addicted to opioids, leading to his descent from a successful career in engineering to a 30-year stint as a notorious bank robber. The podcast is an adaptation of a story for Bloomberg Businessweek that was written by Campside Media founder Josh Dean in 2019.

“Crime Scene: The Vanishing at the Cecil Hotel” delves into the mysterious death of Elisa Lam at the infamous hotel, and director Joe Berlinger said it was important for him to debunk the conspiracy theories surrounding her death out of respect for the victim.

Podcasting is so hot right now. Top tier talent both in front of and behind the camera are rapidly moving into the medium, buoyed by the opportunities to tell different types of stories.
Deadline has been increasing its coverage of podcasting over the last 12 months, breaking stories about the likes of Demi Moore making QCode’s Dirty Diana and Elle Fanning narrating a non-fiction series about a deadly internet diet drug that cooks people alive. We’ve covered the likes of Shonda Rhimes, Jordan Peele and Will Ferrell moving into the medium as well as the plethora of TV and film projects that are now in development based on podcast IP.
This move has undoubtedly sped up since the pandemic hit – it’s easier to produce a podcast under lockdown than film or TV – and many of the major Hollywood studios are increasingly entering the arena with the likes of...

Like so many other parts of our lives, podcasts were different this year. For people suddenly working remotely, there were no more commutes. Instead, podcasts soundtracked evenings making dinner, weekends doing chores, long walks to stretch our legs, or drives to clear our heads. For those still working outside of home, distraction and comfort in trusty listening material may have been more sought-after than ever. The pandemic produced new types of audio series, too, offering tips to help us cope or cook our way through the dark days of isolation,...

‘Chameleon: Hollywood Con Queen’ Podcast Fingers Suspect In Long Running Scam — Shocker — She’s A He
The notorious scam artist known as the Hollywood Con Queen has preyed upon aspiring members of the Hollywood community who’ve been drawn to Jakarta where they are separated from their savings. The scammer who has used the identities of respected Hollywood executives might not be able to operate under the cloak of deception much longer. Tonight in its ninth and next to last episode, the podcast Chameleon: Hollywood Con Queen divulges the identity of a person the makers call a prime suspect.
We’ll leave it to the podcast to divulge the identity of the alleged perpetrator, but it’s not too much of a spoiler alert to disclose that the alleged culprit, the “Queen,” is actually a man who is of Indonesian descent, living in the UK. A master of accents with an ability to disguise his voice to sound male or female, the person has so far...

Sister is teaming with New York Times bestselling author and journalist Taffy Brodesser-Akner to develop and produce the feature film The Get, based on Matt Shaer’s GQ article “The Orthodox Hit Squad.” Brodesser-Akner will write the feature.
Carolyn Strauss and Kate Fenske are producing for Sister alongside Shaer.
The Get follows how communities take care of each other in the name of what’s right, and how “right” can be a moving target. In New York and New Jersey’s ultra-orthodox communities, one notorious rabbi, Mendel Epstein, was sought for help in managing the worst divorce cases, where husbands exploited Jewish law to deny their wives freedom from miserable marriages. This help included beatings, open graves and cattle prods to the testicles, and it worked, but it also showed how a noble goal can sometimes only be accomplished by the most unconscionable of methods. The Get asks whether those...

True crime podcast “The Clearing” is set to be adapted as a TV series by Chernin Entertainment and Weimaraner Republic Pictures.
The scripted series will revolve around the life of April Balascio, whose story is the focus of the “The Clearing” podcast. Balascio was 40 in 2009 when she reached out to detectives to Ohio to discuss her suspicion that her father, Edward Wayne Edwards, had committed a double murder when she was 11 years old. Balascio’s revelation set off an investigation that led to her father’s confession to several murders.
The series will examine the impact of Edwards’ crimes on his family and how Balascio’s life changed after she turned him in to law enforcement. If there’s anything true crime fans love more than stories about unsolved murders and serial killers, it’s speculating wildly about serial killers and unsolved murders. Playing armchair sleuth has become something of a sport in itself, and entire podcasts are devoted to little more than gossamer theories about who may have been behind which crimes. It’s gotten to the point that there are even true crime parody podcasts that mock the genre, featuring hosts with wildly irrational or unfounded conspiracy theories sandwiched between inappropriately timed commercials for smart toothbrushes and boxed mattresses.

Look out, Bryan Cranston has returned to comedy - and if you've forgotten Malcolm in the Middle, he's very good at it. Long before Cranston cemented himself to television history with his multiple-Emmy award winning portrayal of Walter White on Breaking Bad, Cranston paid the titular character's father, Hal, on Malcolm in the Middle. His comic genius brought him three Emmy noms, but alas no wins. After his three consecutive wins the dramatic chute for each season of Breaking Bad, it might be hard to readjust to a lighter tone of Cranston - but as you'll soon see, it won't take too long.
