For decades, Nintendo has shied away from adapting its beloved video games to film – an absolutely appropriate response after witnessing 1993’s live action Super Mario Bros. It’s taken the lauded game maker thirty years to get over that particular trauma, but with Illumination’s The Super Mario Bros. Movie now in cinemas and aiming to break the curse, it’s time to see which other Nintendo properties could warrant an outing on the big screen – and what form they might take.
The Legend Of Zelda
This is a gimme – and one that’s rumoured to already be in development. Zelda is by far Nintendo’s most storied franchise, and one rich in material to mine for the silver screen. Almost any one of the series’ games could serve as a basis for a movie, with heroic Link’s quest to overthrow the evil Ganon and rescue Princess Zelda offering a strong template.

Recently, Nintendo games have been fairly concerning, especially those on the Wii U. No longer are the franchises we once knew and loved: Metroid has no Samus, Star Fox has terrible controls, Paper Mario has no story, Smash doesn’t have the same controls that it used to, and Captain Falcon is dead in more ways […]

Developer Shin’en Multimedia has announced via its Twitter feed that the Wii U exclusive, futuristic racer Fast Racing Neo will be released next week, December 10th on the Nintendo eShop for $14.99/£10.99.
As is abundantly clear from looking at its screenshots and trailer, Fast Racing Neo takes its inspiration from the likes of F-Zero and WipEout in both the look of its anti-gravity vehicles and the lightning speeds that they can reach. Only now you can enjoy all the breakneck boosting in glorious HD at 60fps.
If you are one of the F-Zero fans who are still holding out hope for Captain Falcon to return to the racetrack sometime in the future, then this may well be the next best thing, and by the looks of the awesome, action-packed trailer, it’s not a bad compromise.

As I write this piece in my college dorm, my favorite Smash Bros.-themed Amiibos from my vast collection are to my right, and a playlist of competitive Smash for Wii U matches is playing on my iPad to my left. I didn’t think to put this playlist on to get me in the mood to write about the same game, and I certainly didn’t realize that the little statues meant that I’m sandwiched in between Smash as I write about it.
The simple fact is that I love it, so much so that it bleeds into my everyday life, even nearly a year after its release.
Smash 4 Uniquely Breaks My Game-playing Formula

On Bat in the Sun, schoolyard arguments are brought to life. The action-packed YouTube channel run by Aaron Schoenke, his father Sean, and Damian Beurer is best known for Super Power Beat Down, a series that pits iconic pop culture characters against one another in ferocious battles. Episodes of Spbd take on a cinematic quality and delight the one million fans who have subscribed to Bat in the Sun so far. We spoke to Aaron Schoenke about his online video efforts:

Every year E3, brings us the biggest gaming news of the year, as Microsoft, Sony and Nintendo drop their biggest announcements about upcoming games, release dates and new consoles. With the three day conference fast approaching, I figured it would be a good time to release my 2015 predictions. With so many recent developments happening over at Nintendo headquarters, I believe, there is reason to be optimistic about Nintendo’s presence at the event this year – even, if the new Legend of Zelda game doesn’t make an appearance. It’s always hard to guess what Nintendo will announce since the company has always been so unpredictable, but I have high hopes for what could happen during Nintendo’s live-stream presentation. So what surprises are in store this year? Here’s my best guesses.

In celebration of 30 years since Nintendo released the Nes here in North America, I decided to round-up the Sos troops and compile a list of the 100 greatest games published and or developed by Nintendo, and released exclusively to their consoles. Here is part six.

50. Super Smash Bros. Brawl Developer(s) Ad hoc development team Publisher(s) Nintendo Platform(s) Wii Na March 9, 2008 Genre(s) Fighting, action, platformer -
This third installment in the Super Smash Bros. series of crossover fighting games, somehow made it farther down our list than the most recent addition which I called a masterpiece. I’m not entirely sure why, but in the end, it doesn’t really matter since both versions get a spot either way. Brawl is the first game in the series to expand past Nintendo characters by allowing players to control third-party icons such as Snake, the gritty soldier from Konami’s hugely popular Metal Gear series,...

Millions of gamers are already enjoying the recently released 3Ds version of Super Smash Bros. Regardless of that, the one question on everyone's mind is when the Wii U version is coming out. Nintendo has thankfully answered and announced a release date.
If you've been anxiously awaiting the Wii U version of Super Smash Bros. the wait is nearly over, as Nintendo has now revealed a November 21, 2014 release date for the game. The brand new Amiibo figures (which can interact with this, and other games) are set to hit shelves at the exact same time, along with a Game Bundle that will include a special GameCube controller and adapter for the Wii U. In short, if you don't have Nintendo's latest console, it's time...

With the much-touted brawler already selling like gangbusters on the company’s handheld, Nintendo has finally revealed that Super Smash Bros. will grace Wii Us in North America on November 21st. In terms of other territories, those in Europe and Australia can expect the title on December 5th and December 6th, respectively.
In tandem with announcement, the Big N also detailed the sales performance for Super Smash Bros. 3Ds, which has sold over 2.8 million units thus far — a figure that was no doubt made possible by the game’s debut on the Japanese market, where it sold through 1 million copies in a single weekend.
It’ll be interesting to see how the Wii U version sells by comparison. Eight weeks is a significant window of time in the video game industry — particularly for a release that is skewed across two platforms. Of course, ardent fans of the series may be...

Destiny is probably the most important videogame I am never going to play. Bungie’s new massively multiplayer space shooting adventure game resulted in the most successful franchise launch of all time, although every official number released by the videogame industry in the last few years has a “juke the stats” uncertainty. My colleagues wrote everything you need to know about Destiny; suffice it to say that, if you always hoped they would remake Halo with more decorative robo-ninja capes, then Destiny is the game for you, weirdo.

The cast of Super Smash Bros. just got an additional helping of Fire Emblem, as today Nintendo revealed that Robin and Lucina from the popular franchise will be joining the fight. Fans of the female variant of Robin are also in luck, as both genders will be included for use.
In the action-packed three minute trailer, Robin and Lucina square off against the returning Captain Falcon. The video provides a glimpse of each character’s powers, as Robin can cast an assortment of spells from a tome, as well as have access to his/her sword. Lucina is a little more straight-forward, though, and appears to be more of a brawler.
Fellow Fire Emblem: Awakening character Chrom also appears in the trailer, but it is unknown whether or not he will actually be playable in Super Smash Bros. or will only appear as an assist character.

Imagine, if you will, that some crazy person had the equally crazy idea to take the technicolor tone of classic TV superheros such as The Green Hornet and the Adam West Batman and re-invent them in the 'service' of fascism. The crazy person in question is Portuguese writer-director Joao Leitao and his very much tongue-in-cheek creation Captain Falcon (Capitao Falcao). We first caught wind of Leitao's brilliantly daft creation back in September of 2011 when he released a promo trailer for a proposed Captain Falcon TV series - you can check that below - and when that series fell apart at the eleventh hour with the network pulling the plug just weeks before it was due to go into production, Leitao snatched victory from the...

Diddy & Dixie
Diddy and Dixie first appeared together in my all time favourite game Donkey Kong Country 2. The Kong family tree is renowned for causing a little confusion, it is often thought that Diddy is Donkey Kong’s son, when in fact he is his nephew! But enough with the “Donkey Kong” fact session, lets turn our attention back to this adorable simian couple.
Diddy and Dixie are the heroes of Donkey Kong Country 2, tasked with rescuing Donkey Kong from Kaptain K.Rool, leader of the Kremlin Krew. Dixie immediately earns points as a top girlfriend as she assists Diddy through giant Zinger-hives, haunted bayous and other hellish landscapes, crawling with Kremlins and other undesirables.

We've already looked at Microsoft and Sony's next gen exclusives, but what about Nintendo's Wii U?
With the current focus so heavily aimed at Sony and Microsoft's upcoming next gen titles it's easy to forget that Nintendo already has its own next gen console out there in the form of the Wii U. Now, it may not be next gen when it comes to the sheer horsepower and underlying technology, but it's still Nintendo's newest platform, and the one that'll compete with the new consoles when they arrive.
Previously, we've spent some time looking at the exclusive line-ups for the Sony and Microsoft units, both of which are littered with some very interesting and highly anticipated titles. However, if there's one company that knows about exclusives, it's Nintendo, and there's simply no denying that the Japanese giant has some of the best exclusives in the industry.

It's undeniable that Nintendo are game console innovators – they have been doing it since the early 1980s, having incrementally pushed gaming forward more than any other company, ever. Now, almost thirty years after the release of their first console, the Nitnendo Entertainment System, they are doing it again with the Wii U. For better or worse, Nintendo are launching an all-new system, with an all-new control scheme, and creating all new ways to play. However, there's always one catch to any kind of innovation that people don't talk about: you have to explain it to people. For Nintendo, the last time they had to sell people on a new concept, motion controlled gaming, they had Wii Sports to help people get up off their couches and play tennis in their living rooms. This time around, Nintendo is using Nintendo Land to demonstrate all the different ways you can use the Wii U's GamePad to play,...

A new trailer has arrived for the upcoming Batgirl: Spoiled web series starring Marisha Ray as Stephanie Brown and Taliesin Jaffe as The Riddler. Created by Damian Beurer, the web series is inspired by Bryan Q. Miller’s Batgirl series and follows the adventures of Stephanie Brown, the third Batgirl to patrol Gotham City. In addition to the title character, it appears that several other Bat-family members will be making appearances in the series, including Batwoman, The Question, Oracle, Jim Gordon and many more.
“After a close call leading to a falling out with Batman and Oracle, Batgirl goes out on her own to reexamine her place in Gotham and the world at large. Stephanie spends her days seeking advice from Gotham’s various heros, and her nights patrolling the streets in a seemingly endless battle against crime. All this while attending college, having a social life and finding time to sleep.

Well, sort of. Aaron and Sean Schoenke are the producers/directors of a series of fanmade short films that pits various superheroes from disparate franchises against one another. Basically, “The Deadliest Warrior” on a budget, but minus all those ridiculous comparisons like what would happen if a dude with a sword went up against a dude with a gun. Duh.
