NBCUniversal and the NFL said the Peacock Holiday Exclusive matchup between the Buffalo Bills and Los Angeles Chargers on Saturday will include the league’s first-ever commercial-free fourth quarter, promising “a groundbreaking fan experience” with a reduction in standard NFL ad load of over 40% resulting in more than 12 minutes of additional game-related content.
The move is possible thanks in large part to presenting sponsors Capital One, Hyundai and Walmart, the media giant said.
Coverage for Peacock’s exclusive NFL game begins at 8 p.m. Et from SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles.
“We are proud to work with our partners at the NFL to present this first-of-its kind experience,” said NBC Sports President Rick Cordella. “NBC Sports’ best-in-class NFL production, Peacock’s fan-friendly viewer experience, and this innovative advertising model will allow NFL fans an exciting new way to watch the game’s conclusion.”

NBC viewers were already seeing a lot of Maria Taylor on Sundays. Now they can be assured of seeing even more.
Taylor, the up-and-coming sportscaster who left ESPN last year for NBC Sports, was named host of “Football Night in America,” the show that precedes “Sunday Night Football” and garners one of the network’s biggest weekly audiences. She becomes the series’ first full-time female host, and becomes the latest in an impressive series of sports announcers to fill the role, including Bob Costas and Dan Patrick.
Taylor picks up lead duties on “Football Night” after Mike Tirico was named to provide play by play on “SNF” following a decision by Al Michaels to jump to Amazon to call “Thursday Night Football.” Last year’s “Football Night” crew included Tirico and Taylor along with Tony Dungy, Drew Brees, Chris Simms and Mike Florio, with Jac Collinsworth and Rodney Harrison holding forth from the game site.

[[tmz:video id="0_cen4d9so"]] Phil Simms says reports he was blindsided by the news he was being replaced by Tony Romo is completely false ... and it's awkward since it was his own son who reported that in the first place. Here's the deal ... right after CBS made the move to swap out Simms for the Cowboys Qb, Phil's son, Chris Simms, went on Bleacher Report’s Simms & Lefkoe Podcast and said he was disappointed in the way things went down.

The video might only be 16 seconds long but it tells the entire story. Earlier this week Tony Romo announced he’d be retiring from the NFL to move into broadcasting. Romo will be joining Jim Nantz in the booth to call games on CBS. So where does that leave Phil Simms? Simms is out. Today Chris Simms, Phil’s son said that he thought Nantz was 100% in on the firing. Nantz does have some say in the network and they did need his approval to remove Phil Simms. Way back when, as I was growing up in the Finger Lakes region of Central New York State, I enjoyed The Syracuse New Times. This funky weekly newspaper ran a cartoon by Tom Peyer that often skewered the politicians of the day with its clever, biting wit. It was creative, irreverent, smart and subversively fun.
And then, one day, Peyer worked in an “Earth One/Earth Two” reference. That was kind of like a geek dog whistle – perceptible only to comic fans. I knew I’d be a fan forever.
Tom Peyer went on to a robust career writing and editing comics, with impressive runs on the DC’s Legion of Super-Heroes and L.E.G.I.O.N. His fantastic Hourman series brought characters like Snapper Carr and Bethany Lee to life in such a credible way that, like long lost friends, I still miss them.
Like me, Tom...

[[tmz:video id="0_vucgl0zj"]] Don't count Johnny Manziel out just yet ... 'cause there's at least one person who believes the Qb could still salvage his NFL career. We spoke with ex-nfl quarterback Chris Simms -- son of Phil Simms -- who says Manziel might not have a shot in hell of making a roster in 2016 ... but if he's serious about a comeback, he might have a chance next year. It's a big "if" ... but Chris says it's still possible...
