Pan Distribution has acquired French rights to Joanna Arnow’s dark comedy “The Feeling That the Time for Doing Something Has Passed” following its Cannes Film Festival debut. Loco Films is handling international sales on the title. The film is a major breakthrough for Arnow, who not only makes her narrative feature directing debut, but also wrote, edited and stars in the picture.

The 5th edition of the Us in Progress co-production forum was held on October 22-23, 2015, during the 6 th American Film Festival in Wrocław. Director Shaz Bennett and producers Melanie Miller and Diane Becker acquired the most awards and therefore emerged as Us in Progress winners for "Alaska is a Drag".
Us in Progress is an industry event that aims to strengthen the trans-Atlantic film industry collaborations and partnerships and help European film professionals establish working relationships with new emerging American filmmakers. The event is a bi-annual program conducted at the Champs-Elysées Film Festival in Paris during the summer before kicking-off in Wroclaw at Aff during the fall.
At the 6th American Film Festival, six films in various stages of post-production have conducted private screenings for film industry professionals, including Laurent Danielou (Loco Films), Mathieu Delaunay (Memento Films), Oda Schaeffer (k5), Silje Grimsdal (Trust Nordisk), and festival programmers from Edinburgh, Locarno, Tribeca, and a jury composed of yours truly, Sydney Levine, and Polish post-producers, to compete for post-production and promotional packages. In addition to the filmmaking duo, Shaz Bennett and Melanie Miller, two films have earned significant post-production awards - "Actor Martinez" by Nathan Silver and Mike Ott and "The Loner" by Daniel Y-Li Grove.

Alaska Is A Drag director Shaz Bennett and producer Melanie Miller were the big winners at Us in Progress at the American Film Festival in Wroclaw, Poland.
The fifth edition of Us in Progress, an industry event that showcases in-progress Us films to European film professionals, screened six films in various stages of post-production.
Alaska Is A Drag now receives post-production services worth €10.000 at Chimney Poland in Warsaw; a sound mix from Toya Studios; a score compsed by Soundflower Studio; and a TV rights deal with Ale Kino+.
The film is about an aspiring superstar, Leo (Martin L. Washington Jr.) and his twin sister Tristen (Maya Washington), who are stuck working in a fish cannery in Alaska.
Attendees at Us in Progress included Laurent Danielou (Loco Films), Mathieu Delaunay (Memento), Oda Schaeffer (K5), Silje Grimsdal (TrustNordisk), and festival programmers from Edinburgh, Locarno and Tribeca.

Karlovy Vary’s industry days continued today with the Pitch & Feedback initiative, including the new film from My Dog Killer director Mira Fornay, alongside the Docu Talents from the East showcase.
Czech and Slovak filmmakers presented seven projects in development, which are considered to have international co-production potential.
Among these was Cook, F**k, Kill (Frogs With No Tongues), the third feature from Slovakian filmmaker Mira Fornay, described an absurdist drama about domestic violence.
First pitched at the Sofia Meetings in March, the film follows her 2009 feature debut Little Foxes and 2013’s My Dog Killer, which won a Tiger Award at last year’s International Film Festival Rotterdam and was Slovakia’s submission for the Best Foreign-Language Oscar.

New projects by Peter Greenaway, Pavel Lungin and Valeria Gai Germanika are among 18 feature films selected to be pitched at the fifth edition of Moscow Business Square’s Co-Production Forum.
This will be the second time that Greenaway is at the Forum after presenting his project Food Of Love, based on Thomas Mann’s novella Death In Venice, there last year. His pitch then won him the $40,000 (€30,000) Best Pitch award sponsored by the new Moscow production complex Glavkino.
This time the Welsh-born director will be introducing Eisenstein In Guanajuato, which recounts the time the 33-year-old Russian director fell briefly, but intensely in love in a small Mexican town while researching for the never completed picture Que viva México! in Mexico between 1929-1931.

PARIS -- French independent Rezo Films has launched a foreign sales arm, Rezo Films International, with an initial slate of four films. RFI will debut at the Rendez-Vous of French Cinema, the showcase for Gallic cinema which takes place in Paris from Jan 21-24. The company then plans to book space at all the major film markets starting from Berlin. Former TF1 International executive Cecile Gaget has been named head of sales. "The idea is on the one hand to accompany our own production. But we also want to acquire around 10 films a year from other sources," said Rezo sales and acquisitions director Laurent Danielou, who heads up the new operation. Danielou also said that Rezo is aiming for a lineup of 50% French films, 50% foreign. Jeremy Segay has been appointed head of Asian acquisitions.

The ongoing protest by part-time showbiz workers spilled over into violence Saturday when a group of about 50 protesters occupied the Star cinema, blocking market screenings, and were forcibly ejected by plainclothes police, witnesses said. A contingent of at least 50 CRS riot police were soon on the scene and sealed off the Rue d'Antibes. "The occupation was peaceful. Plainclothes officers went in to clear us out, they were punching and using night sticks. They charged in like brutes. Several (market acreddited) professionals were knocked over," said one protester, who gave his name as Claude. "It was peaceful", confirmed Laurent Danielou of France's Rezo Films, who had the screening of Last Chance Saloon canceled by the action.The on-going protest by part-time showbiz workers spilled over into violence Saturday when a group of about 50 occupied the Star cinema, blocking market screenings, and were forcibly ejected by plainclothes police, witnesses said. Meanwhile, other protesters climbed trees opposite the red carpet when French culture minister Renaud Donnedieu de Vabres arrived for the show, but were removed by police.
