The contrast between Donald Trump on Univision last year and Joe Biden on Univision Tuesday was night and day, but the result was still pretty much the same.
Exactly five months after a controversial interview with the 45th President by Enrique Acevedo, the anchor of Televisa’s En punto was broadcast on the Spanish-language network, a sit-down with the 46th Potus aired. However, while the unctuous November 9, 2023 Trump interview at Mar-a-Lago saw the former Celebrity Apprentice host spouting grievances, stolen election conspiracy theories and self-aggrandizement, Biden went nearly full policy wonk tonight.
Including a stroll through the Oval Office discussing the life and legacy of Cesar Chavez, and a clearly scripted aside that the iconic labor leader’s granddaughter Julie Chavez Rodriguez is chairing his reelection campaign, the multi-channel, multi-lingual Biden special may have sought to distinguish itself as always from Trump. However, the truth is tonight’s interview with...

Joe Biden’s New York fundraiser this evening with Barack Obama and Bill Clinton is expected to raise more than $25 million, an enormous haul for a one-evening event.
Biden’s reelection campaign has heavily promoted the Radio City Music Hall gathering, which will include musical performances by Queen Latifah, Ben Platt, Lizzo, Cynthia Erivo and Lea Michele, among others.
Around 5,000 are expected to attend the event, while the campaign also has been raising smaller-dollar contributions via an online contest in which participants could win a trip to New York and a photo with the three presidents. Proceeds go to the Biden Victory Fund, a joint committee of the Biden Campaign, the Democratic National Committee and state parties. The fund accepts individual donations up to $929,600.
The Biden campaign said that the event was “the most successful political fundraiser in history.” In a statement, Jeffrey Katzenberg, the co-chair of the campaign, called...

The GOP’s assault on reproductive rights isn’t too popular — not even in Alabama.
Democrat Marilyn Lands won a special election for a state House seat on Tuesday, flipping a district that a Republican had previously controlled. Lands ran largely on reproductive rights, particularly as a proponent of in vitro fertilization in the wake of the Alabama Supreme Court ruling that embryos created during IVF treatments are people. The ruling sparked nationwide condemnation of the Republican Party’s attacks on reproductive care and led at least one local hospital...

The United Steelworkers union endorsed President Joe Biden for the 2024 election, racking up another union endorsement for the presumptive Democratic nominee.
The union, which represents an estimated 850,000 workers across multiple industries, said Biden had a “track record of supporting working people” in their announcement of the endorsement on Wednesday.
“President Biden proved time and again during his first term that he stands with working families,” Usw International President David McCall said in a statement. “His vision and leadership allowed our nation to strengthen workers’ access to collective bargaining, grow the middle class,...

After it was reported that Trump intends to support a national abortion ban, the Republican primary frontrunner floated the idea of a 15-week ban during a Fox News interview at the U.S.-Mexico border in Texas on Thursday.
When discussing support for in vitro fertilization (which GOP lawmakers claimed to support, then blocked a bill this week to protect IVF access nationwide), Trump insisted “we’re on the side of women.” Shortly after his declaration, the former president told host Sean Hannity, “More and more I’m hearing about 15 weeks.

Donald Trump wants to implement a 16-week national abortion ban, The New York Times reported on Friday.
The former president has largely avoided taking on reproductive rights during the Republican primary, although he has at times made a point to take credit for the Supreme Court’s 2022 decision to overturn Roe v. Wade. The decision has been blamed for the GOP’s lackluster showing in the 2022 midterm elections, and Rolling Stone reported last year that Trump has privately griped that the party is “getting killed on abortion.”

United Auto Workers President Shawn Fain and former President Donald Trump have gone to war with each other.
Fain stated in an interview he gave on Face the Nation explaining why the union endorsed Joe Biden over Trump.
“Look, when you look at these two candidates, you know, Joe Biden has a history of serving others, and serving the working class, and fighting for the working class, standing with the working class,” the Uaw president stated. “Donald Trump has a history of serving himself and standing for the billionaire class. And that’s contrary to everything that working class people stand for.”
Trump responded to what Fain said during this interview by attacking him in a Truth Social post.
“I had the great privilege of watching Shawn Fain, the President of the United Auto Workers, this morning on DeFace the Nation,” the former president wrote. “He is a real ‘Stiff...

Update: Donald Trump mocked Nikki Haley’s remarks to supporters after she lost the New Hampshire primary, telling supporters that “she was doing a speech like she won.”
“She didn’t win, she lost,” Trump said.
“Who the hell was the imposter that went up on the stage before and claimed victory. She did very poorly. She had to win. The governor said, she is going to win. She is going to win. And she failed badly.”
He seemed especially irritated during the speech, telling the crowd, “I don’t get too angry. I get even.”
He explained why he decided to focus on Haley in his speech, given that he’s all but assured to get the nomination.
“I find in life you can’t let people get away with bullshit. You just can’t do that. And when I watched her, in her fancy dress that probably wasn’t so fancy,...

Former President Donald Trump said that he hoped a financial crash would occur this year, as he believed it would give him a chance to win a second term as president.
“When there’s a crash, I hope it’s going to be during this next 12 months because I don’t want to be Herbert Hoover. The one president – I just don’t want to be Herbert Hoover,” Trump told conservative commentator Lou Dobbs in an interview on the right-wing platform Lindell TV.
Hoover was president during the Wall Street Crash of 1929 and the beginning of the Great Depression.
President Joe Biden‘s reelection campaign slammed Trump for harming the middle class for his political benefit.
“Donald Trump should just say he doesn’t give a d— about people, because that’s exactly what he’s telling the American people when he says he hopes the economy crashes,” Biden campaign...

In a town hall interview with Fox News’s Sean Hannity, former President Donald Trump addressed questions about his potential return to the Oval Office in 2025.
When asked if he would disavow any retribution against his enemies were he to re-enter the office, Trump initially avoided a direct response.
However, when pressed further, he stated that he would not be a dictator, “except for day one.”
Trump clarified that this would be for two specific issues: “I want to close the border and I want to drill, drill, drill… Other than that, I am not a dictator.”
His remarks may have been an attempt to quell concerns that have arisen in recent weeks with his authoritarian approach in a potential second term.
President Joe Biden‘s campaign promptly criticized Trump’s statements and used them as ammunition to argue against his intentions.
Biden-Harris Campaign Manager Julie Chavez Rodriguez released a statement in response,...

President Joe Biden made the official announcement Tuesday that he is running for reelection.
The announcement came in a three-minute launch video.
“When I ran for president four years ago, I said we were in a battle for the soul of America. And we still are,” Biden says. “The question we are facing is whether in the years ahead, we have more freedom or less freedom, more rights or fewer. I know what I want the answer to be, and I think you do too. This is not a time to be complacent. That’s why I am running for reelection.”
The video, coming four years to the day when Biden announced his 2020 bid, opened with images of the January 6th attack on the Capitol.
Biden then appears on screen and says, “Freedom — personal freedom is fundamental who we are as Americans. That’s been my work of the first term.
