San Francisco, Feb 12 (Ians) The Oversight Board which was set up as an independent body to review Facebook's content moderation decisions and make binding judgments about its policies is now seeing the possibility of other social media platforms becoming part of it once it proves to be a success.
The board is now poised to consider a very significant decision: should former US President Donald Trump's Facebook account remain suspended or should he be allowed back on the platform to reconnect with his millions of followers?
Trump's Facebook account was suspended due to "incitements" leading to the January 6 storming of the US Capitol.
In a conversation hosted by the Carnegie Endowment on Thursday, Oversight Board co-chair and former Prime Minister of Denmark Helle Thorning-Schmidt said that if the project proves to be a success, "other platforms and other tech companies are more than welcome to join and be part...

Pre-sales down 40% following shootings in the Danish capital less than two weeks ago.
Pre-sales for the 9th Copenhagen Jewish Film Festival are down 40% on last year in the wake of the shooting in the Danish capital on Feb 14, which left two people dead - including Danish director-producer Finn Nørgaard - and five police officers wounded.
“People are scared,” festival director Anne Boukris told Danish television TV2 News. “All the time people are asking me about security – after what happened in Copenhagen, they are anxious about what is going to happen next.”
The festival launches tonight and runs till March 21 with a programme comprising 24 international films with Jewish themes, held atthe Cinemateket at Copenhagen’s Film House.
“I am sure people are scared to come,” added Boukris.
The festival will open with Golden Globe-nominated Gett, The Trial of Viviane Amsalem from Israeli directors Ronit and Shlomi Elkabetz, introduced by Danish member of Parliament Özlem Cekic.

One person has been killed and three police officers were wounded in Copenhagen, Denmark, on Saturday during a committee meeting of cartoonists, according to CNN. The target may have been Lars Vilks, who is known for his controversial caricatures of the Muslim Prophet Muhammad. Dennis Meyhoff Brink, a satire researcher, told CNN that he heard about 30 shots and some yelling in a foreign language around 3:30 p.m. local time. "Everybody, of course, panicked in the room and tried to run," Brink said. "We were just hiding and hoping for the best." Security personnel took the founder of the Lars Vilks Committee,...

They say every picture tells a story. Although, sometimes the story isn't always accurate. During Tuesday's memorial service honoring late South African leader Nelson Mandela, President Barack Obama was photographed taking a selfie with British Prime Minister David Cameron and Danish Prime Minister Helle Thorning-Schmidt. The image immediately went viral, with many calling attention to what appeared to be a disapproving look on the face of Michelle Obama. However, as Roberto Schmidt, the photographer who captured the moment, wrote on the Afp blog, "Photos can lie." Schmidt continued, "In reality, just a few seconds earlier the first lady was herself joking with those around her,...

Michelle Obama didn’t look too pleased in the now famous photo of Barack Obama posing flirtatiously with Denmark’s Prime Minister, Helle Thorning-Schmidt, during Nelson Mandela’s memorial. But the photog who snapped the pic says there’s more to it than meets the eye!
Michelle Obama may have looked like she was giving President Obama and Danish Prime Minister Helle Thorning-Schmidt the death stare as the two leaders huddled together for a group selfie with British Prime Minister David Cameron. But the photographer who took the picture, Roberto Schmidt, insists that Michelle’s “stern look” didn’t reflect how she was really feeling. “Photos can lie,” he says.

"Photos can lie." So says the photographer who captured the image of President Obama, British Prime Minister David Cameron and Danish Prime Minister Helle Thorning-Schmidt as they took the now-famous group selfie at President Nelson Mandela's memorial in Johannesburg on Tuesday. "Obama took his place amid these leaders who'd gathered from all corners of the globe," photographer Roberto Schmidt wrote on the global news agency blog, Afp.com. "Among them was British Prime Minister David Cameron, as well as a woman … I later learned was the Danish Prime Minister." Continued Schmidt: "Suddenly this woman pulled out her mobile phone...

While honoring the late Nelson Mandela, President Barack Obama posed for selfie with a few diplomats in Johannesburg, South Africa on Tuesday (December 10),
According to the Associated Foreign Press, President Obama joined in on a snapshot with UK Prime Minister David Cameron and Danish Prime Minister Helle Thorning-Schmidt as they waited for the ceremony to begin.
As previously reported by GossipCenter, the Commander-in-Chief later took to the podium to pay tribute to Mendela, or as friends called him Madiba. "It took a man like Madiba to free not just the prisoner, but the jailors well; to show that you must trust others so that they may trust you. He changed laws, but also hearts."
Also noting that Mendela's death should inspire fellow political leaders like himself, Obama stated, "There are too many of us who happily embrace Madiba's legacy of racial reconciliation, but passionately resist even modest reforms that would...

Omg, sir. Did President Obama really join in a group selfie during Tuesday's memorial service for the late South African President Nelson Mandela? Indeed he did, joining British Prime Minister David Cameron and Danish Prime Minister Helle Thorning-Schmidt in a grinning snap as the trio sat among world leaders at the Fnb soccer stadium where thousands of mourners paid tribute, USA Today reported. The selfie drew some criticism in the blogosphere where some have chided it as in poor taste, given the solemnity of the occasion as South Africans and others around the world mourned their global human rights icon...

There are times, as a politician, when you have to put on your most serious face. Natural disasters. Closing factories. Declaring war. But not, apparently, Nelson Mandela's memorial service. Causing a stir on Twitter is the picture of U.S. President Barack Obama, U.K. Prime Minister David Cameron and Danish Prime Minister Helle Thorning-Schmidt apparently engaging that most modern pastime: snapping their own photo.

During this morning's memorial service honoring late South African leader Nelson Mandela, President Barack Obama took a few minutes in between speaking to mingle with the many political world leaders in attendance. At one point during the event, which took place at Johannesburg's Fnb Stadium, Potus was even caught snapping a candid selfie pic with British Prime Minister David Cameron and Danish Prime Minister Helle Thorning-Schmidt! For the selfie snapshot, the three leaders leaned into each other as Obama reach out his arm to take the photo on an iPhone. All three flashed a smile while First Lady Michelle Obama watched the memorial service in the background. Selfie aside, Obama took the stage to...

New research reveals that voters find deeper-pitched male voices more attractive. So what are the implications for female politicians?
It was years ago during a late-night student debate when a female friend suggested I was losing the argument as my voice had become too high. I can't remember for the life of me what the argument was about, but I do remember my feminist fury as I pointed out that I was always going to lose against my (male) opponent if that was how we were being judged. It all ended in tears with my friend hiding in the loo. As I said, it was late at night.
This whole exchange came flooding back listening to the Today programme this morning.
Researchers at a Canadian university have found that voters prefer lower-pitched voices, rating their speakers higher for attractiveness, leadership potential, honesty, intelligence and dominance.
It's the issue of dominance...
