While there are some directors who love the challenge and try to adapt the most difficult novels, not many of them succeed. When writing a story down, the author relies largely on their own descriptions and the reader's imagination to complete the picture. With the imagination factor taken out, it's up to the crew behind the movie to think through the details.
Though many great works of literature have been adapted into screenplays, there are some authors who haven't been so lucky as to get even one successful adaptation. The recent Netflix flop, A Man in Full, puts Tom Wolfe on this list.

In addition to A Man in Full, there have been three other attempts to adapt Tom Wolfe's writings. In 1973, the sports drama The Last American Hero was released, based on Wolfe's essay about race car driver Junior Johnson. 10 years later, Philip Kaufman...

There’s a new man on campus when the black-ish spinoff, grown-ish, returns for its fifth season. Junior Johnson enrolls at his sister Zoey’s (Yara Shahidi) alma mater, Cal U. At 22, Junior’s real-world experience sets him apart from the typical freshman, Scribner says. “He knows what he wants — or so he thinks — and tries not to let [distractions] stop him from achieving his goals.” Still, the actor adds, “He realizes that to go to college he has to truly do college and, man, he gets up to some crazy stuff!” Newly single, Junior is “100 percent” ready to mingle. The large dating pool “leads to a much more laid-back, looser Junior,” Scribner hints. As for how Zoey, who moved to New York City post-graduation, remains in the fold, she’s back to help Junior settle in. And then? “It’s all in the first episode!” Grown-ish, Season 5 premiere, Wednesday, July 20, 10/9c,...

When Grown-ish Season 5 gets underway, six cast members will be a distant memory.
According to TV Line, Francia Raisa (Ana), Emily Arlook (Nomi), Chloe Bailey (Jazz), Luka Sabbat (Luca), Halle Bailey (Sky), and Jordan Buhat (Vivek) have all exited the Freeform comedy.
The announcement came on the same night the Grown-ish Season 4 finale played out, and thanks to the graduation-themed nature of it all, it's easier to understand the huge overhaul.
“Francia, Emily, Chloe, Halle, Luka and Jordan will always be a part of the -ish’ family. This new season isn’t a goodbye, we are just expanding the world; there will always be an open door for them to return,” said showrunners Zakiyyah Alexander and Courtney Lilly in a statement to TV Line.
“For Season 5, we’re excited to dive deeper into the storylines of Zoey, Aaron and Doug in their post-grad adventures and welcome a new dynamic class to Cal-u,...

How is Richie Fife connected to the latest mystery in Erie Harbor?
And what has kept him from coming home all of these years?
On Home Before Dark Season 2 Episode 5, we may have gotten one step closer to getting those answers.
If the secrets behind the contamination at Pinewood Pond, the plane hidden in the mansion's basement, and the disappearance of Richie Fife are all connected, I can't wait to find out how because I certainly can't figure it out.
But is Walter, the bird's, shaking connected to Sylvester's shaking hands? And how did all of the men in that picture die, while Junior Johnson appears to have been spared any type of illness?
And what was Hank, Sam's father, trying to take photos of from his plane?
I was surprised that neither Hilde nor Matt thought to try and track down the person working air traffic control who was heard on the audio recording.

Hilde Lisko isn't afraid of anyone.
That's definitely one of her strengths, but it also leaves her extremely vulnerable in ways that she doesn't always comprehend.
And Home Before Dark Season 2 Episode 4 had me asking once again why Matt wasn't more concerned when Hilde told him the mysterious man she thought was watching her turned up behind her to get a drink at the gas station?
That seems an odd coincidence, even in a town as small as Erie Harbor. But I will say that the man almost seemed like he didn't even hear Hilde more than he was consciously ignoring her.
Maybe Matt, like Izzy, could think that Hilde is a little paranoid, but it doesn't come across that way.
Seriously, Hilde, you're like some old person's Reddit feed but like inside my house. Didn't you just make a bunch of people happy because you cleaned up some pond?...

It amazes me that Matt Lisko, someone who watched as his best friend was abducted as a child, allows his young daughter to wander all over Erie Harbor on her bike without any supervision or even without knowing where she's headed or when she'll return.
But I suppose if he were a more cautious parent, we wouldn't have much of a series.
On Home Before Dark Season 2 Episode 3, Hilde and her friends were on the hunt for answers about the dead fish at the Pinewood Pond, and although they were answered, it wasn't one that Hilde trusts.
Some might say Hilde was paranoid, but it's difficult to argue with her premise that no town ever moves that quickly to clean up anything.
If a company moves that fast, it's likely because they have something to hide.
And we're assuming the mysterious "corporate sponsor" is Wott Management which bodes well for no one.

We've got an exclusive first look at Home Before Dark Season 2 Episode 3.
The clip features Sheriff Mackenzie 'Trip' Johnson (Aziza Scott) finally having a successful sit-down with former sheriff Frank Briggs, Sr. (Louis Herthum).
Trip has been having a hard time with her new role, as those under her command have remained loyal to Briggs, Sr.
But things have not been going well for the Briggs Senior and Junior, and it may well be the time that Senior does something to change that.
It's going to take a lot of work to prove to his son and others that Senior's ready to turn over a new leaf, though.
The catalyst for the scene you're about to watch is in response to the hounding that Trip's father has been taking in town.
As Hilde's investigation into the pond and the death surrounding it grows, Trip's father, Junior Johnson experiences some troubling vandalism to his property.

All-American race car mania is alive and well in this excellent Jeff Bridges movie, a true biographical story researched by Tom Wolfe. Junior Johnson needs a future beyond running moonshine for his father, and finds it climbing the rungs of success in the stock car racing game. This may be the most satisfying saga of its kind, and it helped prove that Bridges was a star.
