When The Crow emerged thirty years ago, it changed how audiences could perceive graphic novel adaptations. It was dark, gritty, violent, and well ahead of its time. On top of that, it had one of the best soundtracks of the decade. However, it also spawned some pretty bad sequels. After the release of the last one two decades ago, it seemed just as long for a remake of the original to come to fruition, with multiple actors and directors coming and going. Finally, after all that time, we got to see exactly what The Crow would look like in 2024. The reactions have been, well, let’s just say a little more less than enthused. But what if I told you there was one you probably forgot about? One that has the most bonkers casting out of the entire franchise. One that misses the mark by such a wide margin that...

The next five were, of course, all about movies that came out in 1982: Conan the Barbarian, The Thing, Halloween III: Season of the Witch, and Poltergeist, with an examination of the short-lived 3-D boom along the way. Two highly anticipated films are released this weekend: Radio Silence’s Abigail and Guy Ritchie’s The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare. However, the release pattern for the latter is highly unusual, with Ritchie’s big-budget war epic only getting a theatrical release in the United States, skipping theaters in Canada and the UK in favor of an exclusive run on Prime Video later. As such, it’s not expected to make much of a dent at the weekend box office, with it looking like Abigail will pull off an easy win.
Currently, we’re predicting Abigail will make about $20 million. That’s much less than what Radio Silence pulled off with the Scream films. Remember, though, that this is an original horror title with a twist on classic vampire folklore. So far, the reviews have been mixed, with our man, Mike Conway, loving it, while others have accused it of being a tad goofy.

Update: At CinemaCon, Universal confirmed they’ll be releasing Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 in Fall 2025.
The original article follows:
The video game adaptation Five Nights at Freddy’s (read our review Here) quickly became Blumhouse Productions’ highest-grossing movie when it reached theatres and the Peacock streaming service back in October, surpassing the likes of Split, The Invisible Man, The Black Phone, M3GAN, the recent Halloween sequel trilogy, and the Paranormal Activity, Insidious, and The Purge franchises with its haul of $295 million. So of course they’re developing a sequel, even if one hasn’t been officially announced yet. Five Nights at Freddy’s star Josh Hutcherson already said back in January that they were “nailing down the story” and hoping to get into production as soon as possible. Now Blumhouse founder Jason Blum has shared a picture that was taken at Jim Henson’s Creature Shop, the company that provided the...

The The Langoliers episode of Wtf Happened to This Adaptation? was Written and Narrated by Andrew Hatfield, Edited by Mike Conway, Produced by Lance Vlcek and John Fallon, and Executive Produced by Berge Garabedian. Here is the text of Hatfield’s script:
Well, it’s time to let the King have his moment again. This is Stephen King’s second go around on the show and while Silver Bullet based on Cycle of the Werewolf is a minor cult classic, it’s not one of the bigger adaptations out of his overall catalogue. Today is going to an even deeper cut. While it seems that nearly everything has been adapted, there is a lot that has yet to be turned into a show, movie, or short film. Back in the 90s and early 2000s it felt like his made for TV miniseries were happening more frequently and had more hype to them,...

Wading through the many aspects of a movie to decide if it stands the Test of Time is one of the fun parts of this journey. Often times, we’ve looked at classics that are genuinely seen as good in most aspects and decide if it was good just for its era or if it was able to transcend its place in time and still be a good time today. Last year we looked at Christmas Evil, a movie that still is underseen, but is a true holiday classic. The episode of Wtf Really Happened to This Horror Movie covering Wolf Creek was Written and Narrated by Andrew Hatfield, Edited by Mike Conway, Produced by Lance Vlcek and John Fallon, and Executive Produced by Berge Garabedian.
One of the biggest and some would say overused tropes in horror movies is the killer stalking people in an outdoor setting. The main series for this is, of course, the Friday the 13th series but we have nearly countless other examples to pull from. Sometimes, like today’s entry, or The Burning, these stories and movies can be based on true events and make it even more frightening. Unlike The Burning, which is based on an urban legend with the true story being far from fact, Wolf Creek (watch it Here) had an original script that was tweaked to be based on the real life killers Ivan Milat and Bradley John Murdoch...

The episode of The Test of Time covering Exorcist II: The Heretic was Written by Andrew Hatfield, Narrated by Niki Minter, Edited by Mike Conway, Produced by John Fallon and Tyler Nichols, and Executive Produced by Berge Garabedian.
Here at Test of Time, the whole idea of the show is to look at a classic, either objectively through critical praise, box office revenue, or even things like reputation or cult classic status. The three of us, writer Andrew, narrator Niki, and editor Mike like to discuss what we think about whatever the movie is and have fun with it. Shouldn’t this be able to work in reverse though? What about a movie that is seen as bad? Shouldn’t it be looked at through a different lens via time and what we know now? Maybe a bad movie stays a bad movie but what if a reappraisal alters the opinion?...

The episode of The Test of Time covering Pumpkinhead was Written by Andrew Hatfield, Narrated by Niki Minter, Edited by Mike Conway, Produced by John Fallon and Tyler Nichols, and Executive Produced by Berge Garabedian.
The horror landscape is filled to the brim with icons and mascots that were successful and failures. The big ones like Freddy, Jason, and Michale speak for themselves, hence only needing their first names mentioned here. You could even go another round with Pinhead, the Leprechaun or Leatherface for that matter. Looking down the aisle at the literal murderer’s row of horror movie villains, you can’t shake a stick without hitting some one-off baddies that were clearly meant for multi-movie stardom but due to box office or critical hate were relegated to one movie. Killers like Horace Pinker from Shocker, Dr. Decker from Nightbreed, and Cropsey from The Burning. What about those stuck...

The Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark episode of Wtf Happened to This Adaptation? was Written and Narrated by Andrew Hatfield, Edited by Mike Conway, Produced by Lance Vlcek and John Fallon, and Executive Produced by Berge Garabedian. Here is the text of Hatfield’s script:
Campfire tales. Town legends. Ghost stories. Whatever you want to call them, they exist as a way to tell stories from one generation to the next. They can be told at summer camp, at sleepovers, or by grandpa when he’s had an extra J & B and is feeling squirrely. They can be urban legends, embellished stories based in fact, or even just a made-up tale to illicit fright from its listeners. For certain generations, the stories of Alvin Schwartz accompanied by the illustrations of Stephen Gammel have terrified kids who stumbled upon them at the Scholastic book fair and given adults Ptsd...

Urban legends are mostly just that, the stuff of legends. They can inspire some people to do horrifying things and create urban legends of their own. Very often, these stories get the movie or show treatment whether they hue close to anything factual or not. One of the most famous examples of this urban legend which has a serial killer acting out some of the most famously told tales. Often movies that use the “inspired by” tag don’t have much to do with their source material like The Texas Chainsaw Massacre being merely inspired by Ed Gein. What happens when a legend inspires a movie and then the real story comes out years later?...

Monster movies are mana for horror fans. Monster movies with really great mythology added into the mix is even better. Where you don’t normally expect to find these types of films are as part of the prime-time lineup of network television. But back in the days of no cable and a time of zero CSIs and Law and Orders, network TV would be the place to find a lot of original films. The TV Movie Of The Week was appointment viewing, especially when it came to the horror flicks. In 1972 a very unique in the annals of TV history film would air on CBS. The film would be special for a few reasons and would be one that would...

Hey all! John Fallon here aka The Arrow. Our docu-series, Executive Produced by Berge Garabedian: 80’s Horror Memories (binge it here), which thoroughly explores the decade in horror, is now 15 episodes in. We just wrapped 1980, 1981 and 1982 and we are about to go in balls deep into 1983 this coming Monday, August 28 on our JoBlo Horror Originals YouTube channel.
A series of this ilk doesn’t happen by itself, it takes an army of producers, writers, editors and our sole narrator to make the magic happens. So we thought it would be dandy to get our core staff to share with you their 10 favorite (not best) horror movies from the 80’s. Yes, it was tough on all of us to pick just 10 – but we knocked a few back and did what we could. Scroll down and peep our choices!
