“Joy Ride,” the raunchy girl’s trip comedy starring Ashley Park, Sherry Cola, Stephanie Hsu and Sabrina Wu opens this week.
It’s the first studio movie to feature a predominantly Asian cast since Marvel’s “Shang-Chi: The Legend of the 10 Rings” in 2021, and the first since “Crazy Rich Asians” in 2018 to feature Asian female leads.
In the film, lawyer Audrey Sullivan (Park) is tasked with securing a business deal in China. She brings along her childhood friend Lolo (Cola) as her translator, as Audrey was adopted by white parents. They’re joined by Deadeye (Wu), Lolo cousin. While in China, they meet up with Audrey’s college roommate Kat, a successful actress. Lolo encourages Ashley to search for her birth mother, and hijinks — with an emphasis on “high” — ensue.

Someone didn’t get the memo. A 10-year-old-ish boy sat down with his mom in my row at the press/word-of-mouth screening, and it took maybe five minutes before the woman sitting next to the mom filled her in on Joy Ride. I watched as she hit up Rotten Tomatoes for more info, watched the trailer, and then did right by her son – nearly sprinting out of the theater with 15 minutes to spare before the screening started.
Once Joy Ride began, the raunchy, wild and crazy, completely unfiltered hard R-rated comedy confirmed the mom’s decision was spot on. For the rest of us adults in the theater, what followed the opening minutes also confirmed Joy Ride is the best R-rated female-led comedy – and one of...

Nearly a decade after acquiring the NBA’s Los Angeles Clippers, Steve Ballmer is finally realizing his dream to build a bigger and better TV platform for his beloved basketball franchise.
The Clippers today are launching ClipperVision, a regional subscription streaming service that offers six channel options for watching the vast majority of the team’s home and away games – more than 70 out of 84 regular season games. The service will cost 199 per season and is available largely in Southern California. The service’s first live stream bows Oct. 22. with an away-game against the Sacramento Kings.
One of the six channel feeds will be dedicated to the team’s traditional linear cable TV coverage via Bally Sports. Two more are dedicated to Spanish-language and Korean-language coverage of live games – with the Korean team anchoring from a studio in Seoul.
Another feed is an alternative view of the game — akin to ESPN...

"In the eighth episode premiering Thursday, March 24, at 10 pm, former Davis scores big points with our chefs by talking hoops, fast-food and chicken feet," according to the description.

Kate Hudson and former NBA player Baron Davis are the stars of social tonic company Cann’s latest promo video that launched today, a “Saturday Night Live”-style skit that sees the pair preparing the company’s brand-new spiked cannabis drinks before their holiday festivities.
But the real standout is Darren Criss, whose new single “Christmas Dance” (off his debut holiday album “A Very Darren Crissmas”) soundtracks the entire video. Plus, he makes an adorable cameo as an Elf on the Shelf, as he and Hudson reminisce about their time on “Glee” together.
Hudson and Criss’ on-screen cameos are no coincidence. Both performers are longtime investors in Cann, which creates CBD and Thc-infused tonics as an alcohol alternative for social events.

The venture-capital funding spigot for many online publishers is dribbling a lot less cash these days, with one notable exception: sports.
After recent disappointments over revenue and growth at even the bluest of blue chip sites (think Vice and Buzzfeed), VCs now are betting on sports content for their next big digital-media payday. And betting is exactly the right word.
As Gambling Goes, So Goes The Venture Capital
One component of this gold rush is definitely the prospect of programming around widely legalized sports gambling, following a big U.S. Supreme Court decision last year. By late 2018, five states already had legalized sports gambling, and as many as 20 more expected to consider such legislation this year.

Walking through the El Segundo studio where veteran sportscaster Rich Eisen tapes his daily “Rich Eisen Show,” the sheer density of sports memorabilia is overwhelming — everything from game balls to jerseys, gear, autographs and uncountable photos are crammed onto every inch of wall and desk space. But step into Eisen’s dressing room, and the focal item next to the host’s mirror tells a different story: An ancient Mel Brooks and Carl Reiner comedy LP, signed by both.
Indeed, a closer look at some of the guest snapshots along the walls reveals a striking number of Hollywood figures among the expected who’s-who of football legends. Ever since launching “The Rich Eisen Show” in 2014, Eisen has been striving to make his show an unlikely meeting point between the worlds of sports and showbusiness, combining the deep-dive debate of sports talk radio with the breezy banter of late night TV.
